I had my doubts. I wasn't too interested in seeing "Matchstick Men". It seemed like your basic crime film with the little twist. And some dumb jokes in the mix. But it turned out to be a pretty decent film. SPOILERS!!! Nicolas Cage's character is a con man. A great one at that. He finds out he has a daughter from his first marriage. He tracks her down and finds her. After them immediately hitting it off, his daughter wants to learn the family business. He hesitates at first, but lets her in. A couple things are a little predictable, like with the partner being the traitor. And the daughter didn't tell her dad everything about her crime past. It was a very good film. I would recommend for Nicolas fans. 8/10

This is a more modern, darker version of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels". N Its' not that much of a comedy as Scoundrels but it is enjoyable in its own way. Likable con artists are always fascinating. The story is good with a few slower moments in between. The acting is good. Alison Lohman is watchable and shows star quality. Cage is good in this comedic role. Sam Rockwell is suited to a T. You feel for them and want them to succeed. Ridley Scott directs well and keeps you guessing. Liked the way things tied up in the end. Feel good and neat - not unrealistic.

I was struggling to watch this movie from the beginning. Nicolas Cage and his OCD conman spaz act wasn't very compelling viewing. Sam Rockwell was actually a welcome break. Then Cage's fourteen-year-old daughter, whom he'd never laid eyes on, entered the picture, and wouldn't you know the movie got worse. The last thing a boring, somewhat aggravating, movie needed was a typical teenager. Weirder than her picking up with her father like he'd only been on vacation for a few days is her behavior with him. She just settled right into his home like she owned him and the place--making a mess, going through his things, eating ice cream for breakfast. I was about to spaz out myself watching her. I didn't know where this movie was going so I bailed. Life is too short and I'd rather spend it watching something I really want to.

Roy(Nicolas Cage) is a con artist who chain smokes and has a Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. But his perfect life is suddenly turned upside down when the teenage daughter Angela(Alison Lohman) that he never knew of, finds herself being a part of his life. This movie was quite interesting and funny. Nicolas Cage was absolutely hilarious and Alison Lohman is a cutie although she is much older then her character. And one thing that I did not expect was the surprise ending but I won't give anything away! I would give Matchstick Men 7/10.

I should just quit having high expectations for a movie, because inevitably, I just end up being disappointed. Good cinematography and winning performances from Alison Lohman and Sam Rockwell, but I could have used a little more screen time from both of them and less from Nicholas Cage, who got on my nerves a good bit throughout the film. I didn't catch on to the twist, so that redeems the film a bit in my mind, but overall, I'd only give it a 6/10.
