There is something in this movie that makes me rewatch this film. The main role is played by the inimitable John Cusack. In this film, we need to listen to him very carefully. He says wise things to which we should not only listen to it, but also hear. The film is intended for family viewing, although the genre is listed as a drama, but nothing particularly dramatic in it. Although sometimes touching scenes make me shed a tear. I liked the film precisely with its meaning and touchingness. I watched it in one breath. And even those that made me think about how I would behave in place of the main character. Could I raise a foster child? In general, the film with meaning. It raises the topic of fathers and children, foster children and adoptive parents. I advise you to watch this film without exception.

I watched this movie by chance on a flight this past week from Paris to my home in Houston. I was enchanted and delighted, maybe a little more. It invites curiosity from the start. When I was a kid I too spent some time thinking that I was safe inside a cardboard box. The subject of this film is the elusive twins, extreme sadness and extreme joy. Its uniqueness is that the film knows that these are qualities shared by children and adults. The boy and the man, sweetened by the company of gentle women, go on this rather epic quest. I remain startled that I did not hear of this film earlier. It was ironic for me that the other film I watched on this 11-hour flight was the latest "Elizabeth". I'm a long-time student of English history, so this has a natural fascination for me. But I must say that this little Martian Kid film held my attention more than Elizabeth did.

David is a widower. He writes books about space and other planets. One's he decided to adopt a child. And when he firstly saw Dennis, he understood that he is his boy. Dennis is a special child, who spends all his time in a box. Dennis is sure that he came from Mars. And when the have met, an extraordinary story began. I liked the film very much. I think that here we can see themes of responsibility, identity, self-expression. The actors could show the relations between a father and a son, a "special" son. It is the example of a really good father. He didn't make the boy give up his idea, he really tried to help him. I think, that all parents should watch this film. It can teach to respect children in any case.

I enjoyed the story about the man taking in the little boy who claimed to be from Mars. I liked the way it developed--maybe the child could actually be from Mars? The progression of the relationship between the man and boy was good. The acting was mostly fine. Just about everything else was poor. It seemed cheap and amateurish. Lighting was often too bright. Sets were unattractive. Pacing was a problem. There were several times when I wanted to have a nap (which is not normal for me!) because there wasn't anything interesting happening. I remained attentive in case something important might happen, but it didn't. I left the theater feeling it had been mostly a waste of my time and money.

Martian Child will very likely entertain but not astound most audiences. The big themes of fitting in and the search for connection, which are well explored territory, are kept in focus by a good script and acting despite the best Hollywood attempts to veer off into hokey predictability. The characters outside David and Dennis could use a bit more development and some of the scenes could have used a bit more mystery, but the current of the story moves things along. In the screening I saw, there were some embarrassing technical gaffes. The film builds the right amount of emotional tension to keep things interesting right up to the end, which was well done. A good date movie and one for parents and older children to enjoy.

Top 5 in my worst films. Predictable and boring. I tried to watch but gave up half way through.

David Gordon (John Cusack) is a science fiction writer and a widower. He and his wife were in the process of adopting a child when she died. Still grieving for his wife, he gets a call from a social worker that says they have a child they believe would be a good match for him. David finds Dennis (Bobby Coleman) in a large cardboard box with a slit in it. He is told by a little girl that Dennis is weird and only comes out when it's dark. You see, Dennis thinks he is from Mars. He is light sensitive so he wears sunglasses and carries an umbrella to protect him from the sun. David's sister, Liz (Joan Cusack) loves her brother, but with two boys of her own and a husband to help she can't see how he'll be able to raise Dennis by himself with all the other issues. But he does. Great story, about how being a little weird might make you the odd one out at times, but it's not fatal, you can adapt and still be you.

I really do not believe that what I will say here will spoil the ending of the movie, but some sensitive viewers may feel otherwise, so I listed that it may. Two things I like about the movie are 2 songs and 2 quotes that REALLY make it worth while to me! The Songs are "Mr Blue Sky" by Electric Light Orchastra. The other is "Satalite" by Guster The Two quotes are: David: I get all the arguments against it. I even get the one that says "I don't know if I want to bring another kid into this world". But how do you argue with the logic of loving one that's already here. Dennis: I started doing science and I realized we were spinning around the sun at 67,000 miles an hour, held in place by gravity! So what the heck do I need to be from Mars for? I think it's because I didn't fit in. If you love children, you will enjoy this movie!

I was so adore to watch it. i'm not fond of dramas but that film caught my attention. i watched it in one breath. the storyline is amazing. David, who is full of imagination and very creative, was not afraid to adopt a child. a weirdo, Dennis, as others called him. no one belived that David could get along with the child. but David was the only one who loved and aprecciated the boy as he was. he finally became a great father for him. David dind't afraid of risk, he didn't listen to everyone, he just tried to make Dennis happy. and he did. even if they had to handle all troubles they faced with. i was truly glad to see that film. i hope a lot of people will watch it and understand how it is important to be a good person and accept people as they are, especially if it is a child.
