love this movie...obviously a 10/10 one..the build up is a chefs kiss, you can quite predict the twists and turns but still want to keep watching for more..it's so sad to what happened to his siblings but the ending is so beautiful💗

What a way to waste such amazing performances (or in some cases, actors that just didn't have enough to perform). The movie isn't dumb, but the execution of what they do in it has been done before, and way better. We follow a family. Well, that's what the trailer promised us. But in reality, is the big brother that brings the whole story together. Anya Tayler is disgracefully wasted by being just one more of the cast and not a prominent part (Have these writers seen The Witch?). The movie has one great sequence at the start with the family working together and a nice score. After that is boring "character stuff" that, with the ending, is just a waste of time, really, and doesn't earn a second viewing. Being boring in a horror movie is one thing... but just to be clever? You're wasting my time.

I really liked this movie. The cinematography was great and the acting was good. I was into the movie from start to finish. I thought the ending was good. I'm glad I didn't read any reviews about this or know much about it beforehand so I could enjoy it for what it was. This was not a horror film although there were some horrifying parts to it. There were a few things that bothered me. First off I feel like I need to go back and watch the movie again now that I know the twist at the end and I hate that. Another issue is-we really weren't given a whole lot of back story on these people. We get bits and pieces over the course of the film with the majority being revealed at the end and by that time it's too little too late. Another thing - you're telling me that this house just sat undisturbed all those years? If they owed money on it how come it hadn't been repossessed? No one thought it odd that the family never came into town or that the kids didn't attend school? The one lawyer dude brought it up but it was explained away. Still it seemed like a small town. Surely some busybody or someone from the local church would have stopped by for a visit at some point but no - nothing. We're expected to believe that they just lived all alone undisturbed in their own existence? Also if the Dad was a convicted killer how'd he get out of prison to follow them over to America? And when he shoots that gun why did he set it down by the tree so the son could get it? Why didn't the son take the gun and kill the Dad? Why would he risk an altercation with the Dad if he was so afraid of him? Also you're trying to tell me that after the Dad gets shanked in the throat he's gonna somehow survive...for 6 months with no bathing or cleaning or dressing of the wound?! He had no food other than raw meat from animals he trapped. How is it possible he didn't get sick from that alone? But don't forget how is he even able to eat with a hole in his throat? Add the stab wound to the mix, the malnourishment and the constant exposure to the elements and there is no way anyone could survive that let alone manage to overtake two healthy humans - killing one and almost killing another!!! So unrealistic! And why wasn't the Dad making more noise? You would think he'd be banging night and day to be heard. Here's another thing...we see in flashbacks that the brother didn't get to his siblings in time to save them from the Dad but he had the gun when he got there. Why didn't he kill the Dad right then and there?! You're telling me he just let the guy live after knowing the Dad killed his siblings? And then just decided to brick up the wall to keep him prisoner?! How did he subdue the Dad long enough to get the wall bricked up?! Did he just knock him out or did the Dad kill the kids and then leave the house and the son just bricked up the wall to keep his sibling's bodies a secret thinking the Dad was gone for good - but then surprise surprise 6 months later he's been alive in the house the whole time? That part I need explained. Also did they keep the lawyer dying a secret? We never find out what happened to him. Is he still in the attic or did the police come and take his body away? If they did take him away why didn't they condemn the house? It was falling apart and was barely habitable but yet the two of them are just gonna live out the rest of their days in that brokedown house on her meager salary? He was never gonna be able to get a job so how were they gonna continue to stay there?! I need to know!! There's just too much that was not realistic. Still I really liked this movie. It wasn't your typical storyline. I would recommend this but you have to be prepared to watch it twice.

After watching this movie I walked around for days thinking about how moved I was for the members of this family, in particular Jack, for reasons I won't reveal. This movie was very moving and touched me deeply. It is also frightening, tense, and had me on the edge of my seat. The writers, director and actors successfully made a film which had me re thinking some of the events and feeling deep empathy for it's characters. Very well done!
