Being a fan of small movies, I was hoping that this one would be a good use of two hours. Unfortunately, this is one of the worst films I have seen in a very long time--without exaggeration. The story is of no relevance except to a small minority of middle-class, navel watchers, the quality cast is poorly directed to the point that their actual abilities become questionable, the cinematography has an amateurish feel even though it was shot by an accomplished cinematographer, and the editing is choppy. Watching this picture is like watching nails claw against a blackboard. You can't believe someone gets pleasure in doing it and you can't wait until it is over.

"Margot at the Wedding" is one of those edgy, independent art films that tend to split people down the middle. Half like it, half don't. I'm not split on it at all. I'm firmly in the camp of those hated it! I just found another film to add to my "Worst Films of 2007" list! I can't say it more than that! This has to be 1 of the most disappointing films this year. I'm all for Family Dysfunction films, like "American Beauty" & "Running with Scissors" to name 2 of my personal favorites in the genre, but "Margot at the Wedding" was just terrible!! This also has to be the first film that I simply hated in the Jennifer Jason Leigh cannon! Nicole Kidman is one of those actresses you either like her or don't. I'm in the middle some of her films are great, I.E. "Moulin Rouge!", "Birthday Girl", "The Others" & "Billy Bathgate" are some of my personal favorite Ms Kidman Films. Other films of hers I simply hated & wondered "Was the rent due that damn bad that you needed to make that film?", I.E. "Batman Forever", "The Portrait of a Lady", "The Stepford Wives" & now of course "Margot at the Wedding"! & Jack Black, was well Jack Black. Flat, lifeless and not funny. The movie that I did like where he showed "some" acting stretch was "The Holiday"! The 1 thing that kept going around my head as I watched this dribble ("Margot at the Wedding")was this, "Was Nicole Kidman really acting, or was she playing herself"?? You'd have to pay me a lot of money to get me to watch this again. RATING: D-

I've just watched the movie Margot At The Wedding. I wish i hadn't wasted my time to be honest.Starring Jack Black, Nicole Kidman etc. i can honestly say that its one of the most utterly depressing, dismal, grim, pointless, pathetic excuses for a movie i have ever seen. I persisted with it, and kept on telling myself that it could not possibly stay as terrible as it was. I was wrong. very wrong indeed. Jack Black cut an extremely pathetic figure as the husband to be,and surely he will be embarrassed by this entire production? Nicole Kidman seems to excel in playing neurotic women, and she didn't disappoint .To sum up, avoid this at all costs!

Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm just not up for this sort of film. After about 30 minutes I began to regret coming in to see this show. I know many people whom this film could be a documentary about. There was nothing very gripping, details eluded me and I figured I must have missed a few things, because I found myself wondering where certain relationships or details were established. It could also be be because I had the day before viewed a really good film, which was clever and fun to watch. This reminds me of the sort of soaps I watched while home from school on a sick day, but not quite as shallow. I'm in no hurry to watch this again. Maybe the writer is brilliant to some people, but I couldn't figure out how this was noteworthy enough to make a film of.

Nicole and Black, both great movie stars who had starred in many good movies, have chosen to appear in such trash! Extremely boring, irritating and agonizing ,this so called movie depicts the lives of multiple hateful neurotic psychotic characters who react excessively to normal challenges in life, making big fusses out of them, and annoying everybody else along their path , including the audience, unfortunately. There is not even one single character who can attract the heart of the audience. And when you care about no one in the movie, you won't care a damn about what's happening to them. How I pity Nicole and Black, but they have nobody to blame but themselves. The worst movie I've ever known for a long long time. Not just avoid it, don't even go near it .

Really a dreadful film. I can certainly see the comparison to Bergman's Persona, which is a film I could never imagine having to watch again. The difference here is that it did not have the surrealism of Persona. It was total slice of life train-wreck cinema. The performances were definitely stellar, but, as another viewer wrote, does that make it art? I could listen to my next door neighbors get drunk and have a fight and get the same effect. Honestly, films like this should not be allowed to be marketed in an attempt to recoup the studio's losses. I think the fact that it was marked as a comedy by Blockbuster, and the trailer editing used clips to make us think it was a comedy was poor advertising. If I had thought it was a drama, I may or may not have watched it, but if I had, I wouldn't have felt so ripped off. Also, I will never ever trust another review by Peter Travers. How he thought this was a hilarious gut-busting film is beyond me.

Have you seen Mr Bean's holiday? This movie is like the one they make fun of in that one, except that its badness is even more off-the-rack. I guess the idea is that if you can get some well known actors to feign an inexplicable angst in front of the camera, you can bluff the audience into thinking that you actually have an idea -- just one too deep for them to fathom. I'm sure this kind of thing really sells in film school, but what possessed Kidman and Black to foul themselves with this crap? They wouldn't consider a cameo on Days of Our Lives, and that's essentially what this is: Days of Our Whiny Overweaned Badly Written Lives. The only interesting part of the whole movie is Kidman fingering herself, but even if Baumbach had stuck her on a sybian for ten minutes in the middle of the film, it wouldn't have been worth watching. (Well, I suppose I'd feel compelled to fast-forward to that scene.)
