I found this movie to be an interesting telling of the Battle of Somme. I do recommend watching it.

This film was a fantastic modern portrayal of the Battle of the Somme. I've seen so many modern day accounts of it that just don't do the War justice. This film, however, is not only accurate in it's portrayal, but incredibly moving and poetic. The addition of real soldier's diaries and stories was the best part, giving the battle a human face to it that most films/documentaries seem to miss. I should know, I've seen just about all there is to see out there on the First World War. While seeing it I thought of the movie "The Thin Red Line" for it was similar in it's simple beauty. For any World War One history buff, this is something you will not regret seeing.
