One of my favorite movies of Van Damme made in the 90s. Solid production and story, Legionnaire tells us the story of some underdogs serving in the French Foreign Legion. In my opinion, Legionnaire is almost on the same quality and entertainment level as Universal Soldier, Timecop, Double Impact, Lionheart and Hard Target, to name a few of his 90s successful movies. Less focused on hand to hand combat and the martial arts, Legionnaire is a blend of adventure and war movie, that got a classic story/plot and reminds me of movies a la Beau Geste, Outpost in Morocco, Ten Tall Men and March or Die among other war and/adventure classics with a strong "dose" of the Légion étrangère.

The opening credits should serve as a warning as to the quality of this film. It is poorly written and riddled with cliches, but it is so bad I found myself laughing the whole way through. See it, if just to remind yourself what a bad movie really is. If you enjoy watching bad movies, this is one for you. It is up there with the worst movies I have ever seen.

This film is somewhat atypical of Van Damme, best known for his flamboyant martial arts style. Viewers expecting the same in this film will perhaps be disappointed, but they may well be surprised as well as he demonstrates some genuine acting ability in LEGIONNAIRE. While not a truly great movie, it is nevertheless a worthy portrayal of the sacrifices of the French Foreign Legion. Forget that it's something of a takeoff on BEAU GESTE -- it's still an enjoyable film with a decent plot. I was most impressed with the moviemakers' attempts at accuracy in terms of props and equipment. For anyone interested in the FFL, this film is a definite must-see.

I do not recommend this movie as it does not follow JCVD's typical formula. As a B-grade actor, one must quickly learn to stick to what they can do (or capable of). There is far too much dialogue in this film to warrant as a martial arts film, and not enough good acting to warrant as an Oscar, yet strangely I managed to finish the movie. I do not think it was out of respect for Van Damme, but his subtlety as an actor. Perhaps he has developed, fine tuning his skills not only with his brawn but, his mind. I would only recommend this if you had absolutely nothing else to do on a lazy Sunday. If you watched this movie on any other day of the week that would be very sad.

Van Damme's latest is a solid action adventure, much better than anyone could expect. Compared to the latest Van Damme vehicles this is not a 2 or 3 on IMB scale, but a 5. The big battle scenes are quite good, but the story, acting and other things is (of course)a bit weak. But then again, if you are going to see a Van Damme movie, you don't expect any of these things. But a little movie surprise, and as I said before, much better than one expected and better than is rumour!

First of all, we got to know this is a Van Damme movie. Taking that into consideration, it is a very good movie. I've watched it several times now, and it really has something special, at least for me. I watch those ratings, like everybody do, when I'm searching for films to watch. But, the ratings are often very misleading, in both ways. So, I'm watching really bad and boring films with ratings 8, and I get turned off of perfectly good films with ratings from 4.5 to 6. Unfortunately, we can't watch all the films, and there will be missed good films, and a lot of bad films watched, but if you want an interesting story, not expecting too much, and have a lot of nice scenes, then don't miss this one. Give it a chance, it's a good film.

VAN DAMME GIVES YOU A SOLID PERFORMANCE IN THIS WAR ACTION MOVIE. THE ACTION IN THIS MOVIE IS EXCELLENT AND VERY EXCITING.THE ACTING IN THIS MOVIE IS GOOD. IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH BUYING.

I'm sorry, but I have to say this is the WORST movie I have EVER seen on the big screen. It has absolutely NO ending at all whatsoever and I suspect that they may have run out of film 2/3 of the way through production.
