This movie wasn't awful but it wasn't good either. It seemed like is was going to build and build until there was a bad ass human zombie all out war. Instread they came into the city killed a few zombies and left. Also they let the one "evolving" zombie live because he wasn't coming for them. He is a zombie, kill him, especially if he can think. Definitely the worst of the Romero films. Denis Hopper was amazing in this film though, like in most of his roles. The budget was obviously there with they costumes and sets, they should have taken the money they wasted on John Leguzamo's salary and invested in some writers. I'm not asking for an Oscar winning plot, just a script of a bad ass zombie movie.

George Romero, the king of the zombie industry, strikes once again with Land of the Dead. Back to his familiar stomping grounds of Pittsburgh, PA, the undead are on the loose, and Dennis Hoppeer is Paul Kaufman, who leads a heavily armed militia, with an armour vehicle to shoot down the monsters, while they stare up at the sky looking at fireworks. The usual flesh eating, complete with blood in living color and machine gun fire at every interval, fill the screen throughout. Besides Hopper, a supporting cast with Simon Baker, John Leguizamo, and Asia Argento, round out a nice ensemble in an otherwise standard horror flick. Romero keeps things moving along in a fast paced ninety three minute, tightly edited story with a premonition of the 99 movement, with a rich community living in a walled city named Fiddler's Green; George does have a sly sense of humor, after all. Looks like he was six years ahead of the protesters, and for that alone I'll give it a 7/10.

I have enjoyed zombie movies since I was kid not supposed to be watching them. I loved the living dead trilogy of Night, Dawn, and Day and have now purchased this one to add to the collection after seeing it in the theater's. In short, this movie delivers everything you want in a zombie movie. Blood, intestines, be-headings and of course, plenty of flesh eating! But beneath it all is social commentary and the revelation that things may not always be what they seem. In the end, my view on zombies is different because GAR redefined the idealistic zombie in this movie. If you love zombie movies, this one won't disappoint!

I've just arrived from CineVegas at The Palms where Romero got a vanguard award. I've never seen a zombie movie, so I thought I'd check this one out. Anyway I'm a bit tired, but all I can say is WOW. This film rocked! The gore was awesome. There was some cringe-worthy stuff, one instance I remember is there's this chick with a belly button ring who gets attacked, and yeah... imagine what happens next. Also, this film was FUNNY! The audience just gobbled up all the violence and gore. As the previous poster mention Dennis Hopper was just excellent and the way he handled getting rid of one of his assistants was the funniest part in the movie. All in all, this movie exceeded my expectations and was money well spent.

Goddammit, did I love this movie! I thought I had seen everything there was to see in a zombie film, but leave it to George Romero to show me plenty of new things. It's different from his other films in the series, but that's what I ended up liking the most about it. Where last years' remake of 'Dawn of the Dead' contained nothing new at all and was extremely lazy in story and execution, 'Land of the Dead' has plenty of forward-thinking ideas about living with the undead. If that ain't enough, I actually SQUIRMED in the theatre a few times! The last time that happened was...well...I can't remember that far back! Don't believe anyone who tells ya different, "Land of the Dead" is GREAT!

George A. Romero enters with yet another installment in his banal and grossly visual zombie flicks and hopefully this will be the last of them. Obviously there is an appreciative audience who enjoys watching partially decomposed bodies stomp around and grunt and eat body parts of the living because a lot of people write positively about this film. For this viewer the 'parody' eludes. LAND OF THE DEAD is simply a dark, grotesque, poorly written, hastily thrown together bit of treacle to make money off the folks who like this genre. But how fine actors like Simon Baker, John Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper, Asia Argento, and Robert Joy agree to the casting agent's invitation to star in this film is a conundrum. Grady Harp

Romero breaks the mold of the regular zombie movie with this one. These zombies are no longer mindless walking dead, they have quickly learned the use of tools and have also learned that they are powerful as a force when they work together. That spells bad news for the living, because not only do these zombies learn to use tools, they also develop a drive and a purpose other than just eating other people. I think that detracts from the movie because now living people have even more to worry about. I like the different aspect to the zombie theme with the heavily guarded city, the firework distractions, and the accepted co-existence. It is different than the regular: "Oh no! Zombies" bloodfest. Of course there has to be some blood shed, but it isn't as repetitive or mundane as the normal run & shoot type of walking dead movie.
