Though it is one step behind but i still feel that this film is milestone in bollywood film industry. This film was underrated by the critics of bollywood because they are used to the same old masala films. This film shows that the two masters of bollywood are here. One is Farhan Akthar who can(i hope) rise the film making standards of bollywood to international standards Another one is Hrithik Roshan. He is an superb perfect actor in a making He is growing as an actor by every film. I think he will become my all time fav actor of bollywood after om puri n amir khan. The most difficult thing which was attempted in this movie was shootin war scenes at night n "the scenes were pretty authentic" In technical aspects the movie is benchmark for bollywood i would rate 8.5/10

This film begins well and is interesting enough for the first hour. Unfortunately, the pace slackens as the film focuses on overlong attack sequences in the second half. It still remains watchable but is not as entertaining as Farhan Akhtar's first film 'Dil Chahta Hai'. Hrithik does a good job specially in the first half. He has an impressive dance number "Main Aisa Kyun". Preity doesn't share great chemistry with Hrithik and looks awkward as a reporter. Amitabh Bachchan has a short role and feels wasted. Tighter editing would have made this a much better film. Overall 5/10

Once a bench-mark has been set - it gets extremely difficult to live to the expectations, leave alone surpassing them. Was Dil Chahta Hain a fluke? Or the media has blown the movie out of propositions that the director faltered big time in his second magnum-opus venture. I am sure at this very moment Farhan Akhtar is reflecting over the precise questions. Storyline: Plain and simple. Aimless youth's pursuit of love and purpose of life. The storyline has been attempted successfully several times on silver screen and communicated the essence effectively (Vijeta, Kabzaa, Top Gun). Hritik plays the aimless youth and Preity is his love interest. The portrayal of Hritik being aimless is a bit overdone - he is shown a complete hopeless. You need to watch Sanjay Dutt in Kabzaa to see a believable character. For that matter Aamir Khan character in DCH had similar shades but convincingly portrayed. The training sequences - the director should watch Prahaar. Preity was good. How-ever the discussion with her fiancé at the restaurant was clichéd and.... predictable! In miniscule roles are Amitabh Bachchan, Om Puri, Raj Zutshi, Sharad Kapoor, Sushant Singh, Boman Irani, Parmeet Sethi, Lillete Dubey which could have easily replaced with any character actors. A total waste of such powerhouse of talents - an perfect example of an artiste using varied rich colors on a canvas but failing to sketch out beauty. Songs - not quite catchy enough. Main Aisa Kyon Hoon... looked good only in promos, Agar Main Kahoon.... stays for a while though. Mountain-climbing visuals are commendable . For the war sequences the director seems to have been inspired and re-create Saving Private Ryan. Agreed that the movie had outsourced a cinematographer of international repute Christopher Popp who indeed has captured breath-taking visuals. Technically sound - but story panning over 3-hours hampers the pace of the movie big-time and leaves audience restless.

I liked this movie, especially the first half. The theme is quite a Western concept, and I am seeing it for the first time in a Hindi movie, except for Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon and maybe another. I liked how it stressed for people to pursue what your heart tells you to do. There's no point in being a lawyer, businessman, surgeon, or scientist if your heart is not in it. As the movie says, even if it is lawn mowing that satisfies your essence, be the best lawn mower. The movie said that the film is set against the backdrop of Kargil. It was definitely much more than a backdrop. I am quite fed up of watching films on Kargil and the Indo-Pak relationship. I also think that Amitabh has been in too many movies of late. Thank goodness, he didn't preach forever in Lakshya. If they had cut out a couple of the battle scenes, it would have been better, or they could have shown the battle from Hrithik's point of view and focused more on him since the movie is supposed to be about him, not Kargil. However, I loved the long climax scene. It was excellently shot. The camerawork in the entire movie was superb. After watching this film, you realize even more how bad a movie L.O.C. was. I actually understood the whole fighting strategies, which I didn't have a clue about in L.O.C. The characters were developed excellently. We all know Farhan is a master at that. I like how Preity refuses to submiss to the double standard in Indian society or any society for that matter. Songs were decent. The video for "Main Aisa Kyun Hoon?" was a bit weird, but at least it was something new and creative. Even though the scissors could have been used a little more, I'd still say this is a good movie.

Farhan Akhtar had a lot expected from his sophomore effort but he failed to deliver a winner. The characterisation was impeccable as was expected, and Hrithik Roshan rose to the challenge. But the story itself was stale and seemed neglected at the expense of character development. The battle scenes were boring, and for a war film thats a major drawback. The songs weren't up to scratch and other than the one featuring Hrithik, were mostly misplaced. Maybe Akhtar should take a cue from Ram Gopal Verma and dispense with them entirely. The characters were very identifiable with and just like DCH, the audience immediately falls in love each one. Alas, that coupled with the cinematography were the only high points of the film. Too many war movies have been made of late and this one was not going to prove successful unless it offered something fresh. The acting honors were taken by Hrithik; Preity didn't have anything she could dazzle with and Amitabh seemed like a pale shadow of himself. Om Puri was wasted in a bit role. Akhtar tried to show the horrors of war while at the same time trying not to offend anyone. A much more hard-hitting second half with more carefully choreographed battle scenes would have helped the film a great deal. With the dreaded follow-up to a debut super hit out of the way though, we can expect a much better film from the Akhtar father-son combo next time round.

Enjoyable, good story, well told. Farhan Akhtar has done it again, after his first movie Dil Chahta Hai. Hrithik Roshan's character grows up from being a confused young lad to a man with a mission. Shades of An Officer and a Gentleman, Guns of Navarone, and a little of Saving Private Ryan. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have created more of their world music, and it rocks. The first two songs were fabulous; the other songs should be skipped, I thought. As in Dil Chahta Hai, the parents are all ultra-supportive. They also dress and decorate in expensive nouveau handlooms, rattan furniture, slip covers, etc. Boston Brahmin did a good review. Very nice and straightforward; none of the Hindu Family Values reactionary material that Bollywood routinely churns out.

I found Lakshya to be a refreshing step up in the quality of Indian films. It depicted courage, loyalty and other exemplary values in an interesting storyline. The musical song-dance numbers were well done, and the background musical scores were also emotive. I found the cinematography really stood out in this movie as above par, showing off the scenic landscape of the mountainous Kargil region. Regarding krishnam's commentary, I really have to disagree. Firstly, it's silly and petulant to single out this movie for such criticisms while ignoring the glaring errors and inaccuracies typical of most other Indian movies. I feel it should be judged relative to Indian cinema in general, although it could even compare favorably with various Hollywood hits. I thought the director, composers and cast did a very good job, and hope this film becomes a benchmark for future Bollywood creations to be measured against.

OK...no where as brilliant as Dil Chahta Hai...weird way of expressing patriotism and a waste of Big B and Om Puri's acting potentials. yet...as a very lenient critic...I kind of liked this movie. The story's about a guy finding himself in the Indian Army and finally 'grows up' to become aware of his responsibilities towards his country and family. Good base...but the story lacked that special something needed to make a movie good. Yeah...many of the youth in India are facing the problem of 'finding' themselves and 'patriotism' isn't what it used to be...but Hrithik's character just isn't framed out well!!! While the characters in Dil Chahta Hai made the movie so amazing(the educated youth in India could relate to them)...Hrithik's character in Lakshya just seems like a work of fantasy than a normal everyday character. Hrithik as usual though, is BRILLIANT! Preity Zinta has obviously taken tips from Barkha Dutt...but her hairstyle was much better in Dil Chahta Hai. Overall...a movie muuuuch better than all the other nonsense Bollywood is churning out right now...but could have been better!

Before watching this movie, I thought it is some indo-pak war film. But after watching it became one of my personal favorite. Lakshya is absolutely fantastic. The movie has a very good story and the director has done a very good job. Priety and Rhitik acted magnificently. The songs are very melodious and really make sense to the movie. The movies is picturized brilliantly with the optimum use of special effects. Few scenes from Kargil are truly breathtaking. Its a family entertainer which has everything for everyone. You got to be either a fool or a pro-pakistani to hate this movie. I am rating it as 10 out 10, because it deserves that. I wish to see more movies like this in future.
