Following a series of strange attacks, residents of a small Main lake find a giant crocodile living in the lake and are forced to deal with a dangerous hunter to stop the creature's rampage. This here turned out to be quite an enjoyable creature feature. One of the better features here is that this one manages a lot of action scenes featuring the crocs that are put on-screen quite early in here which allows this one quite a frantic and incredible pace along here. These are quite exciting with the initial scenes of the group being attacked out on the water in the patrol boat, the attack on the friends camping by the lakeside, the failed trap on the beach where they attempt to tranquilize the creature to no avail and the encounter on the water when they manage to successfully trap the croc and it succumbs to their armaments which is a great scene by itself but all the more potent when added alongside the rest of these action scenes. As well, the big finale in the woods works nicely as the staking near the nest features some nice suspense, the chases through the trees get plenty of nice action throughout here and the big brawls featured here gives it plenty of spectacle as well for a really thrilling and exciting finale. The shorter attack bits are also quite fun where it's relegated to brief ambushes that are based more on it popping up unexpectedly for a bite then disappearing again which also helps this one up the violence and gore here as there's some pretty brutal attacks here giving this one a lot to like. That one also manages to highlight its few flaws here as the film does tend to rely a lot on the shorter attacks for the majority of the scenes in the first half. While none of these scenes are really all that bad there's a lack of deviation here which brings this one to a tight, cramped-up feeling when there's a few short action scenes along the way. The only other part about this one that does tend to hold it down is usually horrid CGI featured for the most part here. The crocs are rarely believable here with flat, pixilated bodies that don't match the surroundings, obviously change size and scale from scene-to-scene and in general just looks quite bad. These here are what hold this one down. Rated R: Graphic Violence, Language and Brief Nudity.

Within the creatures-on-the-loose genre exists the sub-category of crocogator flicks. Believe it or not, 2007's "Lake Placid 2" is one of the better entries in this genre. In my opinion it's more entertaining than the original 1999 film, which is hard to believe since this sequel went straight-to-DVD with a much lower budget (a mere $2 million compared to $35 million). Other than the budget and the cast "Lake Placid 2" is superior in practically every way: Although both films have a were-not-taking-this-too-seriously vibe, similar to "Crocodile" (2000) and "Alligator" (1980), "Lake Placid 2" is a little more serious than the original, which scores points in my book (but, don't get me wrong, there are quite a few funny and campy parts, like the incredibly casual way the Ranger responds toward people who have just perished). The females are both more numerous and more alluring. One good example is Sarah Lafleur (Emma). Then you have Rachel (VJ Kewl, aka VJ Benson), stunning blonde Edi (Zhasmina Toskova) and, lastly, the secondary protagonist, Kerri (Alicia Ziegler). The Bulgarian locations are superior to British Columbia. Not that B. C. isn't gorgeous but the story takes place in New England and Bulgaria is simply a better stand-in for Maine. (If you're not sure where Bulgaria is, it's located in Southeastern Europe by the Black Sea). Although the cgi crocs may not look as good as the first film, the kills are better, if you're into that sort of thing. The story, which is very similar to the original, is all-around better for what it is (a Grade-B nature-runs-amok flick). Although the cast may not be as A-list as the first film, they came up with a good group of people led by John Schneider and all have fine chemistry together; they obviously had a fun time making this picture. John is a excellent leading man and perfect for these types of films. Some, of course, mock him because he played Bo Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard, but so what? How does that detract from his performance in this film or others of the same ilk, like "Ogre"? He's an actor/entertainer and perfectly capable of playing different roles. Incidentally, he was in his late forties during filming and still looks great -- does the man ever age?! Other highlights include Sarah Lafleur's face and hair; she's so uniquely cute it's somehow enjoyable to just look at her. Also, there are some really laugh-out-loud moments, like the ranger's comment near the end regarding the recurring white bunny, as well as a certain quasi-villain (Sam McMurray) whom I was just starting to really like, and then... well, I can't give it away. Other cast members not mentioned yet include Chad Michael Collins as Scott, Joe Holt as Ahmad and Cloris Leachman as Sadie, the old woman who regards the crocs as her "kids." There's not much else to say. If you're in the mood for a crocogator flick you can't go wrong with "Lake Placid 2." Yes, it's a low budget, direct-to-DVD release but it's quite entertaining for what it is and compares well with the other films of the genre. Don't give heed to the grumps who rate it so lowly; they're wrong. It's almost on par with "Crocodile" and "Alligator" and in many ways better than the original "Lake Placid." The movie runs 88 minutes. GRADE: B-

This one of the scariest monster movies ever made. The first Lake Placid was good movie. But this one was better. It was scarier. It has great acting. It also has great story line. It also has great special effects. Some people at lake in the country side battle with killer crocodiles. If you do not like this movie it is your business. But it is not my problem. Nor is the problem of the cast and crew you all did a great job. John Schneider is a great actor. This is one of the best horror movies ever. If you do not get scared of this movie. Then you will not be scared by any movie. It would be bad movie to people who don't like monster movies. Sarah L.a.f.l.e.u.r is a great actress. Sam M.c.M.u.r.r.a.y is a great actor.

A sci-fi channel flick with Bo Duke; before you even rent/watch the movie, that should tell you not to take the film too seriously. All too often in these creature features, you get jipped on the violence, gore, nudity, and creature effects. Too often, the creature is seen for a total of 47 seconds in the entire movie. None of those things can be said about Lake Placid 2. It's a B-movie with some horrible editing and acting--but it's got all of the stuff that makes a bad movie good. While the CGI isn't always that spectacular (they even had a cheesy CGI plane-landing), the crocs are on-screen just as much as the actors are, and the body count is surprisingly high. It loosely follows the story of the original, with Cloris Leachman in for Betty White (and, actually, she raises herself above the other performances in the film). It doesn't strike the horror/comedy balance of the first film at all, but this is more of a B-movie creature flick than a true sequel. Compared to other low-budget films in the same genre, this one actually manages to rise above most of the others out there, and gives you the good stuff along with the laughs.

I thought this film was rather well done as far as a SCIFI channel production goes. You have to admit that when compared to the majority of SCIFI channel films, this one does stand out. I don't understand the previous comment of, Not Worth The Time. To each their own, I guess? Anyway I really enjoyed the film myself. Crazy Sadie was pretty comical in her role and there was more blood shown than usual in a SCIFI production. The trailer reads, 3 crocodiles when it turns out there are actually four? An oversight or intentional? All in all the story line is weak yet the special effects and bloody scenes make this one a pretty decent flick. Besides what do you expect for a made for television film? SCIFI channels best production so far this year I believe is, Pumpkinhead 4.

Sci-Fi channel movies are notorious for their constant cheeziness. This one should be perched at the very top of the heap. Since I loved the original, LAKE PLACID, I thought this might be at least an interesting experience. From the first scene to the last, this garbage proved that there are still Neanderthals out there in the movie making business. In the first shot, we see two men in a boat. One of them is quickly gobbled up by a giant croc. His companion merely stares at the water, blinks his eyes and says "Oh, my God!" in the next scene, he is in the sheriff's office and has told his story to the deputies. Their reactions? They all sit around whooping and giggling and nudging each other as if they've heard the funniest joke of the year. And then the sheriff drops in and asks this survivor what his problem is and the survivor merely shrugs and says "there's a problem" out there on the lake. Even after the sheriff is nearly swallowed alive by the creature, he's joking and laughing just seconds later. In fact, no one in the miserable cast ever act as if they're in any danger at all. After every death, they're all joking and laughing and skipping along as if nothing has happened. We're treated--if that's the word--to several scenes of the girls stripping off their bras. I guess we're supposed to be panting with passion at this. One of the craziest scenes is when the hot-headed jerk is mouthing off to his two companions how he would never ever believe there's a monster croc. One slips up right behind him, less than two feet away. His two companions merely stare and say, "Eh, you'd better come along." They act as if there's a squirrel or a possum just a few feet away from them. Of course, the hot-headed jerk is swallowed alive and his companions skip away. And then one of them says, "I can't believe I saw that." The special effects are the type you'd find in an elementary school room. this would be a perfect laugh-out-loud movie to watch along with that other much-praised masterpiece of lousiness: HANDS OF MANOS.
