I must admit that I was expecting a tad more from the 2021 horror movie "Lair" frmo writer and director Adam Ethan Crow than what he managed to deliver here. Sure, I had not even heard about the movie prior to sitting down to watch it. But it being a new horror movie and having an interesting enough synopsis, then of course I had to watch "Lair".
And I will say that "Lair" was watchable, for sure. But it was by no means a milestone in horror cinema. Nor was it actually much of anything outstanding. In fact, once you've seen the movie, chances are slim that you will ever return to watch it a second time, as the storyline just doesn't have the contents to support more than a single viewing.
The pacing of the storyline is rather bland and slow, and whenever director Adam Ethan Crow does set the stage for someething sinister, the build-up is rather anti-climatic or just fails to deliver something wholesome. And that makes for a somewhat swing and a miss movie.
I saw that the movie had Oded Fehr on the cast list, and that was initially the main reason for me sitting down to watch "Lair". But imagine my surprise when I found out that he wasn't even in the movie a whole five minutes.
On the account of acting, then it should be said the actor Corey Johnson definitely carried the movie rather well, despite him not being the actual main actor in the movie. Also Alana Wallace did put on a rather good performance in "Lair".
Visually then "Lair" was bland. The movie didn't offer much of anything interesting in terms of memorable, spooky or interesting visuals. And whatever was there, was just not given enough screen time.
For a horror movie then "Lair" just didn't manage to deliver or bring anything new to the genre. And for a seasoned horror veteran such as myself, then it was a mere stroll through the park sitting through "Lair".
My rating of "Lair" lands on a less than mediocre four out of ten stars, as I was left with a rather hollow sensation and a feeling of 'was that really it?' once the movie ended.

Just very uneventful and a snoozefest
At least it was free
The lead actor dude is kinda funny
The only decent actor is the guy from the beginning and hes only in it for 10 mins.

I just don't get the unnatural reactions of actors in this movie. It feels like they're trying too hard. Playing to the camera in stead of being the caracter. Their reactions to things that happen and the dialog is very unconvincing. It just feels like they are acting. A bit like stage performances. Nothing in this movie impressed me. I barely finished watching it. Don't bother.

I would highly recommend this movie! The jumps were good and performances were too) Even the special effects is well done.
The only downside, the plot got little jumbled, but that's ok.

I mean if you enjoy movies like Blood Punch or All I Need then this one will interests you. That being said when things did happen that caught your attention, sadly they were far and few between. I guess it could have been better but I enjoyed the story honestly. I recommend as a one time watch.

I saw the rating of the movie and I have to disagree. The movie was well done and creepy as well. It also won numerous awards at different movie festivals. There are a couple of good twists and an ending I didn't see coming. I do highly recommend watching it.

With so many supernatural thrillers, there are few new approaches to the genre. Lair does it with clever writing, powerful acting, and an unusual approach to its storytelling.
The well-selected cast is spot-on and totally believable. The director and cast worked together to produce a clear vision of the story, no "waffling about" to find its way. Plus, I like a story that makes you figure some things out for yourself as Lair does, instead of force-feeding every detail to you.
Cinematography was well-planned and executed (great camera angles and lens choices). The editing was tight (no flat or unneeded scenes). Oh yes, there are twist(s?) and a reveal(s?), which you'll have to see for yourself.

Picked this one up whilst browsing new release horrors and I'm so pleased I did. The story is a little all over the place and could have been simplified, but some really great performances and chills! Some very subtle shadowy ghosty moments that could have been made more obvious (I only noticed because my daughter pointed them out to me). I was particularly impressed by the woman who played Maria, Aislinn De'Ath-it's not often you see female characters that aren't supposed to be perfect but are also sympathetic. What struck me was how human Maria was, not always doing the right thing, not always being a perfect mom or girlfriend but trying so hard. It was a really beautiful performance, and there's a moment towards the end of the movie that really shows the range of this actress. I also thought the chemistry between the two female leads was very good (although I felt the actress who played the girlfriend wasn't all that natural). Always nice to see Oded Fehr too, but I felt he mumbled his way through the scene which was a shame.
The ending totally caught me off guard and was a real fun one. For a little British film I'd not heard of before I watched it, I've got to say, I'm impressed in general, I see a lot of bad horror out there but this had a lot to be pleased with.
