all i will say that this movie is the copy of:
One flew over the Cuckoo's nest
Salman Khan--- Jack Nicholson Om Puri--- Nurse Ratchet Jackie Shroff--- American Indian Dude
check out one flew over the cuckoos nest... it is a great movie!
Salman Khan did a great job in this movie
for once, Kareena Kapoor did great in the movie as well.
The only reason people rate this bad is because either they have not seen One flew over the Cuckoos nest or they just love happy endings. Don't get me wrong, i like a happy ending better than a sad ending especially when it is 2 a.m. when your watching it. Great copy of a American Classic!

I first heard the story elsewhere. I was so deeply touched that I watched the movie.
Story: Anand(Salman) is in love with Maya (Rimi) who wants to be a nun. At least that is what she says. She keeps on refusing him till a la Sholay a suicide scene by Anand makes her come out in open. Unlike a girl who ought to be a nun, Maya is a naughty girl who keeps on pulling Anand's legs. One such bantering on the eve of their wedding turns into a cruel joke and Maya dies in a freak accident. Guilt and Shock drives Anand mad.
Anand is admitted to a mental sanatorium which is owned by an ex-military psychiatrist Dr. Khurana(Om Puri). Discipline and regularity are his key tactics to cure mental illness. At times he does go overboard but no one ever dares to challenge him.
Dr. Sunil (Jackie Shroff) is also a doctor there and is a mentor and guide to a sensitive young Dr. Tanvi (Kareena) who is daughter of Dr. Khurana. Experience has taught Tanvi not to get involved in her patients. But she cannot resist charming Anand. With help of Dr. Sunil, she cures him and falls in love with him. Anand realizes everything that Tanvi has done for him. She helps him bear loss of Maya and he too falls in love with him. This attachment is not seen favorably who wants Tanvi to marry Karan (Sunil Shetty in special appearance).
He tries everything to get rid of this attachment. When he fails in everything, he takes drastic steps which ruin his life forever.
Pros : Salman looks handsome in this movie. Heroines look good. Kareena has done a very very good job. She looks very pretty as a sensitive doctor. She also looks credible as a person who is so much in love with her crazy patient that his death
Cons : Attachment between Salman and Kareena does not sound convincing from Salman's point of view. Rimi's death also does not touch the heart. Salman looks more like mentally underdeveloped rather than crazy. Mental hospital is shown as a ridiculous * pathetic. They should have stuck to pathos in my opinion as the movie tends to get very serious towards the end. As the rest of the movie has been developed in a light manner, end hits you very hard. Om Puri does not look like a doctor at all.

The climax is extremely powerful and forces one to overlook the holes in the story which is lifted from quite a few sources. It is sad to see that not much importance is given to developing situations and Salman-Kareena's romance is restricted to a song which is totally out of sync with the spirit of the movie. It could have been more emotional. The songs are good and so is the background score. The look and feel of the film is excellent. Performances of all the lead actors are good. Salman's performance is extremely endearing and straight from the heart. Not sure if he will win an award or not (he does not seem to have luck as far as awards go) but kudos to him for accepting a role so different and portraying it so sensitively.

First the good points-good acting from Salman Khan, good picturesque cinematography, nice songs ...totally unexpected ending. Now the bad...the screenplay doesn't grab,on screen chemistry between the lead pairs is not very convincing.
The pacing of the film could have been better and as it is a serious kind of subject ...it doesn't give much hope for future serious Priyadarshan films a la Viraasat.Especially considering the Box office success of all his comedies.
The film is worth a look if you are looking for a non stereotypical role from lover boy Salman.

I thought this movie was decent enough to watch once and did not think to much of the concept, until very recently I saw one flew over the cuckoo's net (1975) and it made me feel as if i had been ripped off, i thought why is it that all new Hindi movie's have to be based off of old Hollywood movies or south movies (with few exceptions ex. Vivah, which is an amazing movie). everything in this movie is the same as that movie except for the girl factor or as we can call it the bollywood factor, overall if you're watching this movie keep in mind that it is one of those bollywood movies that is plagiarized so all in all if you like the story don't credit priyadarshan and if you hate it don't blame priyadarshan either, also the music is good in the movie and worth listening too.

I did not have any expectations of this movie, and I am very glad I did not anticipate about this movie or contribute financially
the first part of the movie moves very slow and doesn't seem to progress thus there is not much of a plot apart from Salman being thrown into a mental home where so called 'patients' that require special treatments are treated, if possible worse than animals with the occasional electric shocks when they 'misbehave'. As soon as Kareena finds about Salman's ludicrous love story, (Which involves throwing his fiancée in a pool and then leaving her and come back to see her dead)
and in no time at all when he falls down some hill, he is normal again? This is an insult to our intelligence! In contrast to the slow beginning, the ending of the movie was a rushed 'quick fit' and decide to have a 'tragic' ending by Salman being murdered and Kareena being put into the same mental home. The time it took for all this to happen
5 minutes, which in a way was good as I could not endure it any longer so if you are thinking about watching this movie go and watch some paint dry instead. Ps: The one 2 points are dedicated to the average performance by Salman Khan.

There were several problems with this film. But let me just say that I am giving it a 9 out of 10 for the acting. As much as I hate Salman Khan as an actor and person, he was good in this role in which he plays a mental patience who isn't really crazy just in denial. He doesn't stereotype the role and that was great! Kareena Kapoor haunts as the doctor who eventually falls in love with him and loses herself in the wake of her love for him. Jackie Shroff and OM Puri round out the cast with strong supporting and impeccable performances as family friend and father of the afore mentioned protagonists respectively. Rimii Sen and Suniel Shetty are also great in friendly appearances but the script was in a world of its own. There was just too much going on for one film!! It was insane! The script was truly insane! I mean, in one film the story of the life of Salman Khan and his wife is told, the story of Kareena Kapoor and her potential hubby is told, the story of the mental patients is told, the story of Jackie Schroff is told, the story of Salman and Kareena is told, I mean it was too much for one film. It was like the editor did not do their job or maybe there was no editor for the film. Like I read in a previous review by another poster, and he said that he is surprised the audience did not go mental watching this film and that's so funny but you have to be prepared for this film or you will go insane watching it. BRACE YOURSELF! It's the type of film you would love to hate, but just can't find the hate. Salman Khan makes you fall in love with him and Kareena Kapoor gives the most heartbreaking performance of her career second only to her turn in Asoka.

The acting of salman is laughable. in the start he is fine and as the film progresses, he starts behaving in a more childish way which was not even evident during his interview with the doctors. his logic starts to drop and it is absurd that he falls in love shortly after he comes out of a trauma after the death of her beloved. and please the behaviour of doctors and security guards with the patients is totally unbelievable. i can't believe that a person who is a retired army officer and a doctor can let his personal life interfere in his professional life. also a sign from a relative is necessary before an operation. also why does kareena become unconscious in the end, which doctor would do it, if it needs an operation. The death of rimi sen and the reason of salman's admission in the mental hospital are totally unbelievable and laughable. om puri's performance was really bad but jacky nearly pulled it off. overall an unbelievable story and some bad acting. i can't believe that priyadarshan would come up with this crap!

Though the Priyadarshan directed KYON KI is a good movie (what i partically loved was the unconventional ending, Salman Khan's performance and of course Rimmi), if you want to see the difference between a good movie and an absolute classic than watch the original instead. Though Priyadarshan denied his film being a remake, it actually is. This movie is a remake of one of the three black and white movies Rajesh Khanna made in his career. I am talking about the Hemant Kumar produced and Asit Sen directed film KHAMOSHI. This film starred Rajesh Khanna, Dharmenra, Waheeda Rehman and Devan Varma. Music was by Hemant Kumar and the film has two great evergreen songs : WOH SHAAM KUCH AJEEB THI (by Kishore Kumar) and TUM PUKARLO (by hemant Kumar). Even the ending (though not a happy ending here either) is far better and more realistic then Kyon Ki.
