This movie moves along slowly with nothing really shocking and that is where and how it hits you in your gut it is a terrible tale - not solely because of the prostitution but because it all really becomes so mundane in it's savage repetition. The three main roles of joy precious and the Madame are well played
What I have difficulty understanding is that at almost the end of the movie joy contacts the Austrian authorities wants to expose the Madame seems like they're going to work with her and then all of a sudden the police come pick her up and proceed to deport her what happened there??

Excellent film on the vicious circle of prostitution. That's the core of the movie: even if you get out of the business, something so intense happened that you will never be the same, and "virtue" will ellude you, even in subliminal ways.
But on the other hand this is a story about Nigerian women who go to work as prostitutes in Austria and get into debt, after making an oath with a juju priest to enforce the contract that the women "sign": it is a cultural bind, a process of enslavement from which there is no escape. For you may become "free" after paying your debt to a madam, but at home your soul is still a prisoner in the form of a charm that the juju priest keeps with him, until a relative breaks the spell, after the debt is settled...
Beliefs, life, survival. A very good film, made by a German filmmaker of Iranian origins. Many awards in Venezia, Chicago, Sevilla, London and other international events. Highly Recommended.

This was a riveting watch, a very realistic portrayal of what young women duped and tricked into leaving Africa to work in Europe find themselves actually doing , which is Prostitution on the streets or in brothels to pay off exorbitant debts to Madames who profess to care about them.
We see Joy go through the horrors of paying off her debt and finally breaking out of the hold of the traffickers ...but then she is deported , sent back to Nigeria without her child and we see her living in poverty again selling party cash at events. This is done by street vendors and earns very little , they sell small denomination notes for people to throw around at weddings etc ..
At the very end Joy approaches a wealthy guy who is obviously a sex trafficker and asks him to again help her out & get her back to Austria. She is going back into the cycle of sex working and paying off a huge debt , she didn't take the opportunity to stay in Austria and give evidence against the traffickers and so she was deported , sent back to no prospects only to start all over again .
It was a sad & depressing ending but a realistic one.

This story was moving and beautiful, we need more stories like this being told. It's sad a lot of people didn't understand it.

I watch it with my wife, but we were a little bit disappointed with that end but the core of that was great, how joy managed the situation at the end and how this crazy world show to us his creepy and occult true..

This movie is best avoided! It relies on a plot that's as original as sliced bread and a narration that's as dreary as watching paint dry.

Show the inside story of how a prostitution ring that exploit African women is managed in Europe (Austria). The film show the raw realities this poor women face without gory excesses and alluring sex scenes. This is not a sex movie but a fiction about a pitiful everyday reality with a particular outlook. It has also a surprising ending that leaves room to inner debate.
