Jarhead 2: Field of Fire

I'm not a fan of the first "Jarhead" film, that was one of the most disappointing & boring "War" films I've ever seen & yes i got that was the point abit you know the frustrating part lol anyway that was crap but this by name only Sequel "Jarhead 2: Field of Fire" is better & its a low-budget DTV film!!!! The cast is good because here we have the great veteran STEPHEN LANG (Don't Breathe, VFW) who is the Major of the team of marines out in the dangerous death trap of Iraq & his presence is definitely needed to raise it up in quality & by his serious performance as the other youngsters are the typical loud, mouthy & trying-to-be-funny typical squad in these types of war action flicks except for when the excellent, underrated but great COLE HAUSER comes into the movie as a special forces soldier trying to transport an Iraq woman to safety, she's important & that's his mission out there. HAUSER is always a welcomed tough hero presence in anything, been a fan since Pitch Black & he's always a solid actor & steals the show in everything like for example "Tears of the Sun" he was better than Bruce Willis!!!! Anyway the guy is great & here he's the best character in the movie & gives the best performance. This is a typical mission behind enemy lines type of war action flick & it's done pretty well with a gritty look & plenty of action packed shootout scenes. I didn't like the typical "Country Music" & "Rap music" used at the beginning because it's so typical & boring now but the actual film was fairly decent even though it felt like so many I've seen & by the end it gets abit boring & it plays out exactly like you know it will but worth a watch but that's it & i only watched it became of Cole Hauser. The 3rd in the Jarhead franchise is easily the best "The Siege" that flick is Awesome!!!

This film is kaka. The writing, directing, editing and acting? in it are terrible. It couldn't even make the cut for Mystery Science Theater 3000. It contains every hackneyed phrase and stereotype of the Afghan war. After 30 minutes I didnt know any more about the characters in the film than I did in the first minute. I didnt even know their names. The script and the director make these mindless, action hero figures instead of real people and the process fails miserably. What a complete waste of time and money. Just like the real war.

When i was in the gulf war, we just had a M16 rifle, chewing gum and a very small toilet roll that incidentally had to last for our whole tour of duty. In this film there are lazer guns, romulan mind-melds an Alien from the planet xena-4 plus every soldier seems to quote " Beam me up scotty" before they get shot. If you want a good action movie go for Wind In The Willows part 2, or you could just watch a few episodes of star trek which may have the same effect on you. Basically don't watch this film. its no good, its akin to jumping around naked with a pineapple superglued to one of your feet. i watched it twice and dozed off several times and that was just during the opening credits. which took almost twenty minutes to get through as for the sound effects they were boring. hang on am i reviewing the right film? this is citizen kane is it not?.

I enjoyed the first 'Jarhead' film and was curious as to what any 'sequel' would be like. However, at least I kept my expectations low as I knew this was not produced by the same cast or crew as the first, plus part II was released straight-to-DVD, so, how good could it be? The answer... quite good actually, but only as a generic war film, rather than a sequel. Okay, so occasionally the film mimics the original in style (think captions, mainly near the beginning) and it uses the term 'jarhead' a couple of times, but that's about it. In fact... I'm running out of other things that link the two films. So, the best thing to do is basically just ignore everything you know about the first movie and go with what's on offer. And, what's on offer is a war movie set in modern Afghanistan. A small team of marines (or 'jarheads' to be precise) are on a routine mission, only to find themselves forced to protect an important female local as she travels across arguably one of the most dangerous regions in the world. Bottom line: if you like war films, you'll probably enjoy this. It's actually got a half reasonable budget and doesn't feel too much like a straight-to-DVD movie.

Oh boy, here we go again. The Hollywood military action movie of the year, and the writers on this 'movie' just spat in the face of The movie Jarhead and everyone involved with that story by even having the same name as it. Where Jarhead showed the flip side of deployment, the stir crazy of waiting, the fear of the unknown, the boredom. This is just another attempt at cashing in of something that worked before. It seem to me that the writers watched The Hurt locker and thought it was a great movie, anyone in the military will tell you other wise, and said to themselves "We can do a movie like this, but let's use marines so we can call it Jarhead 2: fields of fire." I could not get more than 20 minutes through it, and the only reason I wanted to watch it was to see how many mistakes I could find, there are a lot. I'm not going to list any, as there are plenty in other reviews. The main thing about this film is that it is almost like the writers just googled stuff about the military and picked and chose what sounded cool, not knowing anything behind how things really work in the military, like no one in the military says "request permission to do…" or "request permission to speak freely". It's low budget and there is no deeper theme or story behind the action. This is the Marines version of the Hurt Locker

Jarhead 1 was excellent, this one is way too patriotic, with the Americans on the good side, despite most of the war, occident is going now, is just for resources and lobbies interests, I found it a bit hard, to promote such a propaganda, behind such a cheap scenario. It's about American soldier always doing the right thing, because they fight for America, saving lives, and fighting for freedom, but this does not happen in real life.Nowadays, Marines serve for their presidents, who themselves serve the ones that finance their campaigns. Where jarhead 1 was sticking to a more real feel , here not at all. It could have been a good scenario back in a days' when commando was out, but would not be compared to a big title like apocalypse now , full metal jacket, saint soldiers or jarhead 1.
