This film was funny, and made me laugh out loud more than I thought it would. Joan Cusack, with her puppy dog eyes, was a scream with some of the best lines. I admit you have to put aside reality and say, "this is just a movie!" But isn't that what entertainment is all about?

The empowerment of freedom that is out poured in this is so lovely and grown even better in the last 24 years! Kevin Kline really surprised everyone with his character which is very heartwarming. I don't know much to say about In and Out but besides the couple things I said but I'm sure the LBGT community is proud of this film.

People have been complaining that the script is slightly stereotypical, I have to agree. But my overall enjoyment of the film does beat out political correctness. Kevin Kline plays a gay man about to be married, and Joan Cusack plays his fiance. I have never seen such comic brilliance since the screwball comedies. They play their scene together with such energy and charm, with Joan Cusack giving it everything. She deserved the oscar nod.

Inspired casting is only one part of what makes this one of the funniest movies ever put on film. The casting director, Margery Simkin, was nominated for an award for her talents. A great script, full of fast, witty dialogue is the other part of the equation. A truly genius piece of acting by Kevin Kline is what makes this story work. Joan Cusak, who racked up 5 Best Supporting Actress wins by various assemblies of critical groups, is at her very funny best. Her performance can be compared very favorably to the superb job she did in "Grosse Point Blank." When she learns that Peter Malloy is gay too, the look on her face is like "Is the WHOLE WORLD gay?!?" The kiss between Peter Malloy (Tom Selleck) and Howard Brackett (Kline) is one of the funniest screen moments in motion picture history. Bob Newhart, as the principal of Greenleaf High, is at his fumbling best. He needs to do more film work. There is not a false moment in this film -- and every minute of it is truly funny.

This is such a funny movie, I really laughed my butt off. The script is well written and has great one-liners. The cast is incredibly funny; Kevin Kline as a man who discovers his homosexuality, Joan Cusack (who seems to be able to play any character) as his terrible fiancee, Tom Selleck as the love interest and Matt Dillon as a parody on those many Hollywood studs are all wonderful. This movie is light, pleasing and has also the message of tolerance in it: 2 thumbs up!

If you fear or hate gay people, you're not going to like this movie. But if you accept the diversity of the human experience, this really is a delightful comedy of the romantic variety. If you're gay or have close gay friends, you'll recognize in Kevin Klein's character a compendium of coming-out stories (some so familiar that they're almost clichés) that are addressed with great writing and wit. Kevin Klein and Ellen Cusack turn in Lucy-and-Ricky-style performances that address serious interpersonal personal issues with a light, ironic and totally entertaining flair. The ending is filled with good feelings about hope, the triumph of justice, understanding and acceptance of diversity in American society. This is not great cinema, but it is a great time at the movies. Lots of laughs.

I watched this film because I wanted something light and not too much demanding. The plot is pretty easy: an emerging actor wins the Oscar and during his acceptance speech he simply says thank to his school teacher, labeling him as gay. The problem is that the teacher is going to get married and his wife-to-be doesn't take it well. It's a shock. The teacher tries to prove he is not gay at all. As I said, the plot is very simple, there are some funny situations, but as a whole this film isn't a masterpiece. For sure the great part of the film is sustained by Kevin Kline who does a remarkable and believable job. Despite it's only an average comedy, it worth to be watched at least one time.

I saw In & Out in the cinema and in some way it laid the groundword for the social change across the country, ironically led by a character played by conservative actor Tom Selleck. Still, In & Out is entertaining in a way and provides succour to the white LGBTI community.
