Mena Suvari puts in a solid performance in this and her superior acting ability is quite apparent throughout the film.
A fairly "basic" premise, but it didn't need to be anything special.
The film is surprisingly well shot but Dialogue is amateur-ish at times.
(There's also someone labelled as "Scotland" whose accent can only be described as Irish-via-Vladivostok. Truly dreadful.)
Despite what I can only assume was a relatively low budget, the film looks good and is enjoyable enough.
Just don't expect much originality or to have your mind blown.
Goof: Keep an eye open for the very obviously breathing "body" around the 1hr mark. The cameraman must've spotted it and swings upwards rather sharply! :D.

This movie premise adds nothing new to the hunting humans genre, but it's certainly watchable and not as ppl are saying. That being said I would highly recommend The Hunt because it's 10x better. I even liked The Furies more even though it's has incredibly low budget. Surviving The game and Ready or Not is fantastic. So take it or leave it, 🤷 you've already seen it 😂 and you've seen it much much more well done 🤦The acting is fine and there are some good kills. The opening scene grabs you right away, and the pacing is well done.... Mina Sevaris girlfriend is the star of this one and the Men are are good villains. If you have seen all the better versions of this too many times I'd say give it a go.

The hunting people on an island theme has been so overdone that I don't usually bother with the genre. But this one had Casper Van Dien and Mickey Rourke, so I thought I'd give it a chance. Bad mistake.
I don't think the rest of this actually qualifies as a spoiler, but out of an abundance of caution:
Spoiler alert
The first half of the movie was nothing but generic incel drivel that could easily have been copied verbatim from any number of Twitter threads or YouTube comment sections. Given that the premise of the movie was so-called "alpha males" hunting women, misogyny was expected from the bad guys. However, this was not only eye-rollingly bad, but dragged on way too long.
And there are so many things in this movie that are just .. stupid is the only word that truly fits. They made a big deal about the masks on the wall of the lodge but no one ever wore them. They kept showing close-ups of cameras ("camouflaged" with what looked like the really fake plastic ivy your grandma drapes over the mantle at Christmas) in the woods, but no one ever watched the monitors. Despite being really busy running around in the forest being the hunted/hunter, the protagonist's outfit kept inexplicably changing. My eight and nine year old nephews had better fight choreography when they played pro-wrestler/Godzilla in the backyard. There are lots of deadly traps in the woods even though there are a number of first time hunters and dogs running around that could just as easily spring them as the hunted (not to mention that using such traps would pretty much defeat the purpose of the hunters proving that they were stronger/smarter/ faster/whatever than their prey). The heroes kept using the "Let's split up! It'll be faster!" plot device with predictable results.
Basically, the plot, dialogue, and action scenes were truly awful. Don't bother.

This "B" movie draws its source material from the famous, and often repeated, "The Most Dangerous Game. The movie does not do a lot to disguise this premise early on, although it may not be known to the victims. The movie is not nearly as good as the plagued "The Hunt" from 2020. That movie is really well done and engaging. This Ione is watchable as long as you ignore the horrible dialogue and cheesy characters. It is violent and crazy, but I do think they make the film. The visuals are comic book like and do evidence a low budget. There is an attempt to work a Tarantino-ish twist and "Kill Bill" female empowerment into the tale. If you take it as Homage it fairs better than an attempt for originality. Mean Suva is a weak spot in this one.

Well, I can't claim that I was harboring much of any expectations to this 2022 movie titled "Hunt Club", as I sat down to watch it here in 2023. In fact, I had not even heard about the movie prior to stumbling upon it by random chance.
I opted to watch "Hunt Club" because it was a movie I hadn't already seen, but also because Casper Van Dien was on the cast list.
Writers David Lipper and John Saunders put together a fairly straightforward storyline and script here. However, "Hunt Club" failed bring anything new or innovative to the genre of people hunting people for sport. What you see in this movie has already been seen and done in other similar movies. But hey, at least that makes "Hunt Club" a somewhat familiar viewing, I suppose. The movie's narrative was generic and rather predictable. But it still made for an adequate enough viewing experience the one and only time you will watch it. Yeah, there isn't much contents to the script or storyline to support more than a single viewing.
The acting performances in "Hunt Club" were fair enough, and there were some familiar faces on the cast list, with the likes of Mena Suvari, Casper Van Dien, Mickey Rourke, Jason London and Jeremy London. Personally, I don't understand why Mickey Rourke gets casted for movies, as he is stripped for acting talent and his mere appearance sort of introduces a Frankenstein element into the narrative. It was, however, fun to see the London twins in roles such as they portrayed in "Hunt Club", just a shame they didn't have more time on the screen.
"Hunt Club" is not a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time, nor is it a movie that I will actively recommend people to go out and get to watch.
My rating of director Elizabeth Blake-Thomas's 2022 movie "Hunt Club" lands on a generous four out of ten stars.
