I saw this movie on big screen the first time it opened in my country- it had all the right elements- such a monster hit! Kimi Katkar Was without a doubt smashing! A must See! The songs were right on target and the dance sequences were definitely beautifully done. I stayed awake for the entire movie. After it ended people wanted more! I went to see it again a week later, then watched it 7 times after that! This movie was doubled with 1980's Dostana when I saw it- was memorable! No need for pop corn- you won't have time to eat it. Bollywood should take pattern from this movie. The director did very well and the cast was just down right talented and executed the scenes with precision.

My favourite Hindi movie, the sole reason being it was the first movie that I've ever seen. Though not that awe-inspiring in terms of direction or even cast(apologies, Mr. Bachchan)the movie blew me, and the rest of the country, away with that one magnificent song, Jhumma Chumma De De. Kimmy Katkar's most salacious performance ever. Where on Earth did she disappear to? Set in Bombay in the sixties, it tells the story of one man who refuse to be subdued by the reigning feudal lord of sorts and escapes with his two brothers; all he wants is a nice quite life for the three of them, even if it means leaving behind his amour, Jhumma. Rajnikanth and Govinda have had better roles than this, but all said and done, this is one wonderful movie to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Excellent comedy/drama/action film. I have seen this film so many times since I was young. I like the three songs - Ek Doosre Se Karte Hain Pyaar Hum, Jumma Chumma De De and Batdance, it's so funny. I watched it again on freesat channel and youtube as well but there're some scenes are missing. I remember very well, I watched it on an original video (Apollo) and I also recorded it on channel 4 in 15 years ago, these scenes still there but sadly I lost it. Deleted Scenes 1. Govinda's fake trophy. 2. Amitabh went to college to see Govinda's headteacher. 3. Extra song before ending credit - 'Ek Doosre Se Karte Hain Pyaar Hum'.

Hum review : I have an interesting personal anecdote to share about Hum. The much hyped and most eagerly awaited film of 1991 was to come on February 1, 1991. As a school kid, I had saved nearly three months of pocket money for its FDFS viewing. The grand day finally arrived and I was in front of Gaiety cinema, Bandra for the matinee show. It was obviously 'Housefull' and the obnoxious blackwallah demanded Rs. 500 for one ticket, an unheard of amount in 1991. Even today, this amount makes for an IMAX viewing in a premium multiplex so you can well imagine my shock!!! Returned back disappointed and finally watched Hum the same week on VHS. The film was special for Amitabh Bachchan fans primarily for two reasons : One, for having him in his much loved angry young man personna in first half and then playing his age in second half where the family scenes are the most endearing part. Second, ofcourse the Jumma Chumma number which had Bachchan sizzle the screen with hottie Kimi Katkar playing the girl named Friday. Of the cast, Rajinikanth, Govinda, Deepa Sahi, Shilpa Shirodkar - all lend able support. I particularly love Govinda and Shilpa hot up the Mauritius beach in "Sanam Mere Sanam" song. But overall, Hum was a complete Bachchan show. Tiger was a ferocious character who doesn't forget his punches even after he ages. One of Bachchan's best roles in 90s, Hum took the box office by storm even ignoring a certain trade analyst who was hell bent on calling it a flop. After all, yeh public hai...yeh sab janti hai. Completing 100 days run at prestigious Metro cinema (Mumbai), it emerged one of the biggest hits of the year and won Amitabh Bachchan his third Filmfare Best actor award. Rightfully!! I've stopped watching Hindi movies now because they are all formulaic and all of the stars lack charisma. Here today, gone tomorrow, they never invoke the all-around genius of former actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, and Dev Anand. This has been to date, Amitabh's last great role, and it is in a great movie. Although there are the inevitable sappy moments of today's movies, the acting is brilliant, the premise, although recycled, is recycled well. It is without a doubt, one of the greatest Indian films of the last 15 years.

Action movies were always done to death in the 80s with some extremely cheesy stunts. However, its become a lot worse now thanks to the idiotic flying action in South Remakes. The 90s had some great action movies, actors like Akshay and Sunil gave many hits with action films in the 90s. Ajay Devgan also did good action films. Basically, the 90s was a huge improvement from a horrible 80s, there were many good films in the 80s but several bad films too. Hum released in 1991 when Amitabh Bachchan already had his national award for Agneepath but with the exception of Aaj Ka Arjun(1990), all his films had flopped. Director Mukul Anand had delivered a masterpiece with Agneepath which sadly flopped. He only tasted success with Insaaf(1987) which reintroduced Vinod Khanna as an action hero. Anyways, Hum is by all means a great film for the early 90s. It was Anand's second hit after Insaaf. The film tells the story of Tiger a good hearted criminal who takes weekly money from poor people, his father raised him as a criminal. He is the step son of his father and mother but he loves his younger brothers more than his father does. His father Pratap only serves Bhaktawar who is an evil person. Tiger is in love with Jumma who's brother Gonsalves dares to stand up against Bhaktawar. Because he dares to do so, he gets killed. Tiger promises to take revenge, he does so by beating up Bhaktawar. However, his family gets killed, and he has to flee from Bombay. He changes his name to Shekhar, raises his brothers and hides his criminal identity. The brothers grow up and their lives are good, everything is fine. However, Tiger's past catches up to him and now they have kidnapped Kumar's wife and daughter. Watch the action packed climax to see the ending. Direction by Mukul Anand is fantastic, he does a good job after Agneepath. The start is OK but Amitabh's entry is simply superb. Amitabh's confrontation with his step father is good, Anupam Kher does his silly brand of comedy which works in parts. The scene where Amitabh's parents die is decent but the dialogs drag the story a bit there. Amitabh fighting Danny, Danny's house burning down and Danny thinking Amitabh did it is well handled. Anupam Kher being the player is responsible for this. The second half is good but irritating whenever that overacting Captain Attack comes. However, the fight scene in the club with Govinda and Rajnikanth is funny. The rest including the climax has also been well handled. Amitabh Bachchan excels from every aspect, he is flawless as Tiger and he is superb as Shekhar. The anger, the pain, the comedy, and the action has all been superbly done by him. Rajnikanth is good, for once he doesn't ham it up like some of his other movies from the 90s. Govinda is good as well, he excels in emotional and comedy scenes. Kimi Katkar hams it up badly in parts, she is good in serious scenes only. Shilpa Shirodkar is decent but she only had a small role. The rest provide decent support. Music is excellent, the Jumma Chumma De song was a big hit and it created a lot of hype. The family song EK Dusre Se is also a good song, the rest are good too. Action is very good, it is reasonable too. There are no cheesy stunts like most of the 80s films had. On the whole, Hum is an excellent action film despite being a typical action film. Amitabh's action, Rajnikanth's cigarette, and Govinda's comedy came together and gave a superhit film.

This was a childhood favourite of mine. This was the second in the trilogy of the late Mukul Anand- Amitabh Bachan collaborations, the first being Agneepath and the third being Khuda Gawah. In my opinion this was the best in the trilogy. Amitabh was extraordinary whilst Govinda and Rajnikanth provided good support as his younger brothers. The songs were chart-busters and I still listen to them. The lyrics were penned by Anand Bakshi and the music directors were Laxmikant- Pyarelal My favourites were either Jhomma Chumma or Ek Doosre se. Anupum Kher was OK but Danny was great as Bhaktawar. The action was superb, especially in the end scene where Anupum Kher and Amitabh are fighting in the helicopter.
