The movie was bad, tried to support a black movie and was given the junk. With it being national movie day and having time to kill we watching bullet train and later in the evening went back to watch this pos movie. I was offended at the lack of humor was in the movie. It just wasn't good, I can't imagine anyway for these actors to think that this was a good movie. It was drawn out and long for no reason. The big plot twist was horrible. I think this movie could be the first one ever to be sued for a class action of how many hours they collectively wasted. Sadly the movie is so bad I'm sure it'll be out of theaters and may more people can dodge wasting their time and money .

This movie was made just to show false appearances of church and its people . This movie is basically trying to give Christianity a bad name by spreading false informations. These kinds of movies shouldn't be released or produced. I hope Hollywood restricts these kind of movies making fun of Christianity. There's nothing funny about this movie . It's more annoying. Truly terrible storyline . I wasted 1 hour and 43 minutes and I literally wanted to get my money back for the movie ticket. I couldn't believe a movie like that even minute to theaters. Regina hall's performance was the worst part of the movie.

Sundance's genuine power duo might be discovered in "Thank you, Jesus. Please save your soul "a razor-sharp mockumentary that delves deeper and darker than Christopher Guest ever has or could. Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown, who play the cavernous pastors of a gigantic Southern Baptist Mega Church, make that voyage conceivable. They're trying to recover from a controversy that forced them to move away from the spotlight and lose their parishioners, thus their financial flow.

I gave it one star I would give it negative stars if I had that option. How they got these two successful stars, Regina Hall and Sterling K Brown, to act in this movie is beyond me. This movie is definitely beneath these two actors. Nothing about this movie was good. The trailer was misleading, the storyline was terrible, the ending put an exclamation point on the movie being trash. If you are considering going to see this movie lay down till the urge goes away. Wash your car, clean your closets, paint the babys room (even if you don't have a baby), mow the lawn ... just don't go see this movie.

It was terrible! Cringeworthy at times and left me thinking to myself "what the...". The actors were great but the storyline and premise of the movie was very confusing and seemed sporadic. It left me feeling very confused and I couldn't believe a movie like that even made it to theaters. Truly terrible storyline. And it definitely didn't come across as a comedy! It left you with so so many questions and just upset that you had just lost a couple hours of your life. I literally wanted to get my money back for the movie ticket I paid for because it was just so bad...there was a lot that was unanswered and not in a good throughly provoking way, just in a bad WTF that was awful type of way. Truly the actors were great , they played the characters great but the entire plot of the story was bad. Not worth making it into a movie for the cinema.

Listen I've never even written a review here before and I LOVE Regina Hall so I'm not even sure why I chose to add negativity to a movie attached to her at 2 am. I think it's because I can't get that 1h 43mins back. So unbelievably disappointed in this movie. As I mentioned I love Regina Hall! By far one of my favorite comedic actresses. I also really like Sterling. He was absolutely my favorite person on This Is Us. Nicole Beharie is just an incredible dramatic actress. Then I just found out that Jordan Peele was an Executive Producer. This movie had all of the parts to make it successful. It had everything it needed to be great and it just didn't deliver for me. It could be because I'm not a fan of the format. It gives very much of The Office vibes. Fake documentary with funny. However, any The Office episode you put up against this will demolish this movie. I'm just so surprised and disappointed. I also hate to say this but I felt like it made a mockery of the Church. Don't get me wrong there is definitely drama and scandals in the Church world. It's just some of the things said I know it's going to throw a lot of hate towards the actors even though they didn't write the script. I'm so saddened by it because it just had so much potential. I can't really put my finger on what is missing or what would've made it better but I know that it really should've been reevaluated before they brought it to the screen.

This movie was good. Period. Anyone on here bashing it is doing just that. This is like if Greenleaf was a documentary vs a show. You get glimpses into the hypocrisy of this mega church and it's disgraced first family...ala Bishop Eddie Long....hmph. Whoever wrote the script is VERY familiar with prosperity gospel and it shows. Lots of funny moments. Some "Y'all, be for real" moments lol. And some "Oop, that's the true tea" moments. I enjoyed it. I'd even watch it again! Give it a shot. At worst it's a good watch, but a 5 it is not.... UNLESS you are hating or this isn't apart of your culture.

Saw this back at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.
"Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul" is directed by Sisters Adamma Ebo and Adanne Ebo which is the story about in an aftermath of a huge scandal, Trinitie Childs, the first lady of a prominent Southern Baptist Mega Church, attempts to help her pastor-husband, Lee-Curtis Childs, rebuild their congregation. The Ebo sisters had previously made a short film also called Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul. This movie relies on religious satire and humor about the church system involved with the black communities. All the performances were great especially Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown sells the entire movie. The presentation of a mockumentary style fits perfectly to the tone and presentation. There are some really good camerawork throughout the entire movie but the decision to keep changing the aspect ratio gets annoying the time and time it goes on. Aspect ratio changes during the movie is alright if they serve a purpose but this movie doesn't have a purpose to keep changing it's aspect ratio.
Many of the jokes and references about religion, church, politics, and such are seemingly big misses and it didn't land well with the story as much. The story is unfortunately the most bland and basic story that a satire could choose and because of the bland narrative, it doesn't really feel like a satire but more of a bland comedy. I am not religious but I think maybe if I was religious, I probably would like the movie more. None of the characters are as engaging as I hoped for. Everyone felt like paper cuts from a basic book you find in high school that is hidden away from the public.
The Ebo Sisters definitely have talent but honestly, I prefer the short film version they did.
