With such a low review rating (4.3), I didn't expect anything good, but I really enjoyed the first one so wanted to give it a chance.
I'm glad I did!! Interesting plot and plot twists. I say give it a chance if you like horror movies, especially Hellraiser.

Please for the love of the fans, release the rights to a real writer, director and producers who loves the horror movies....this is just ridiculous....

I've only seen the first three HELLRAISER films at this point, but when I saw the latest sequel, HELLRAISER: JUDGMENT (2018) was showing for free on Amazon Prime, I thought I'd check it out. Boy, I'm glad I didn't pay for this stinker, which feels nothing like the original films. The only link is the character of Pinhead, played by someone else doing a Doug Bradley voice, and as for the director's comment that the replacement actor has something of Cushing and Fiennes to him, I can only say...where?!
I can't even describe the plot because it seems to be barely existent, just playing out in a couple of rooms. Detectives investigate a serial killer who turns out to be...well, you can guess. There's another demon character called 'The Auditor' who seems a copy of the Uncle Frank character in the first film. Flying chains and some gore abound, but this felt more like a SAW rip-off than a HELLRAISER film to me, with none of the religious imagery or good vs. Evil backdrop that made the earlier films so interesting. Here, it's just pure tedium, badly acted and written, with the awful direction the icing on an appalling cake. Even if they had good intentions here, the lack of money let them down.

Despite them being on my to see list for a while, it did take me some time to see the whole 'Hellraiser' franchise. This is because of many commitments and studying as well as a to see and review list that keeps getting longer but is gradually being gotten through with mixed but mostly rewarding results. It is a very uneven franchise, but do not regret seeing them at all.
The best of the films is by far the original, which is very good, well-made, very creepy and scary and is also surprisingly original, ambitious and intelligent, assets one doesn't always see in a horror film. The follow-ups are very variable, 'Hellbound' being by far the best for me while 'Hell on Earth' and 'Bloodline' were watchable. Post-'Bloodline' however, the series did go drastically downhill, where the films felt unrelated to 'Hellraiser' with any connection made being with shoe-horning awkwardly in Pinhead and the Cenobites and underusing them in appearances serving no point to what was happening in the rest of the film. On top of the mystery, ambition, intelligence and creepiness being absent and replaced by cheesy camp, dullness and lack of coherence. The one thing consistently halfway decent in all the films was Doug Bradley.
'Hellraiser: Judgment' is not a great, or even good, film and compared to the pre-'Inferno' entries the divide in quality is huge. It is though a significant improvement on 'Revelations' (by far the worst of the series) and the best of the franchise since 'Inferno'.
Always look for plus points and they are there in 'Hellraiser: Judgment'. Paul J. Taylor is no Doug Bradley but he does make the role of Pinhead his own and is creepy in his own way, so much better than the first replacement for Bradley in 'Revelations', Pinhead just looks much better here, and much more commanding and professional.
'Judgment' is at its best too in the last 10-15 minutes, which is the closest the film comes to feeling like a 'Hellraiser' film and is pretty tense and exciting. The make-up is effective and some of the imagery is eerie.
On the other hand, even for a film made on a limited budget, 'Hellraiser: Judgment' has a very cheap look to it, rushed time constraints also showing throughout. It all looks chaotic and sloppy and looks dreary, while the effects more often than not are at best slapdash. Again the music is not appealing-sounding on its own and tends to not be appropriately placed and jarring in tone. The direction is less inept than the direction in 'Revelations' but doesn't seem to be in control or at ease, while the campy and rambling dialogue is embarrassingly bad and the pace lacked energy or tautness in places and felt rushed in others, so erratic.
Much of the storytelling is weak, it at least doesn't feel incoherent as such and it feels much more complete than 'Revelations'. It does suffer from the creepiness happening far too fleetingly, popping up randomly and abruptly and then over too quickly, and from a lack of tension and suspense. It's very predictable, so the mystery and ambition aren't there, and it's too bizarre and silly in places. The characters are too stereotypical and are not interesting or endearing, while the Cenobites are underused (again) and have lost what made them so memorable before, which was their mysteriousness and eeriness. Other than Taylor the acting is weak, particularly from Alexandra Harris, with some histrionics and indifference.
In conclusion, not a catastrophe but didn't do much for me. 4/10 Bethany Cox

'HELLRAISER: JUDGMENT': Four Stars (Out of Five)
The 10th installment in the endlessly popular slasher flick series. This one revolves around three police detectives investigating a serial killer that kills it's victims based on the Ten Commandments. At the same time Pinhead, and other demons from Hell, are waiting to judge and punish the killer. The movie was written and directed by Gary J. Tunnicliffe, who also wrote the last installment, 'REVELATIONS', and he's the franchise's longtime FX artist as well. It stars Damon Carney, Randy Wayne, Alexandra Harris, Paul T. Taylor, Heather Langenkamp (of 'NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET' fame) and Tunnicliffe himself. The film has received mostly positive reviews from critics, and it was just released on VOD and video. I think it's a respectable entry in the popular horror franchise.
Detectives Sean (Carney) and David Carter (Wayne), who are also brothers, are investigating a serial killer that kills it's victims based on the Ten Commandments. They team up with another detective on the case, named Detective Christine Egerton (Harris). What the three officers don't realize though is that they're also dealing with something otherworldly. The Auditor (Tunnicliffe), and other creatures in Hell, are patiently waiting to judge the killer, and possibly some of the detectives, in a place called the Stygian Inquisition (a faction of Hell). Once someone enters there, they'll do anything to get out.
The movie is pretty classic 'HELLRAISER' material! It's everything I know, and expect, from a film in this nightmarish franchise; and it's an excellent example of a real nightmare come to life too (like many films in this series). It's pretty low-budget obviously, but so are most of the movies in the franchise, and it's definitely a better film than the last few installments of the series too (at least) I'd say. The movie disturbed the Hell out of me, and it's creepy, and hauntingly memorable too. That's what I really respect about it, and I'd definitely recommend it to any fan of the franchise.

Even tho the budget is very low for this one you can see the director and crew made it with love as apposed to HELLRAISER REVELATIONS.Even tho Doug Bradley isn't playing PIN HEAD anymore the new actor is almost just as good com'on Doug is legendary but yes This movie gave me the original trilogy's vibes. Its not a great movie but its definitely in the top 5 HR movies .

I enjoyed this entry into the hellraiser franchise but I just wish they would do something more with the pinhead character and the cenobites!
This was basically a poor man's se7en rip off and only showed two of the crime scenes if i remember correctly.
I think I would rank it 4th or possibly 5th in the franchise (after the first 3/4 films) and it seems to be an original hellraiser film rather than having the name tapped on after.
There could have been a bit more character development and if like to know more back story on the woman in white.
What I would really like is a reboot of the franchise or even do a film about Clive barkers scarlet gospel book in which we do see a bit more of pinhead when he meets harry d'amour!
All in all...it was ok but we need more pinhead/cenobites.

What went wrong? Seriously, one of the most famous cult horror franchises of all time has died but nobody had the courtesy to tell it. Now year after year it's still here, it's lifeless corpse stinking out the joint.
Has there been a passable Hellraiser movie since Hellraiser: Bloodlines (1996)? I honestly don't think so.
They went from merciless memorable fascinating horror titles to failed attempts at psychological horror movies with plots that made less sense than Justin Biebers career success.
Now we don't even have the iconic Doug Bradley as Pinhead anymore, it truly is time to give this franchise the last rites and let it drift away into nothing but fond memories before it becomes the Witchcraft series.
The plot is yet again indescribable, the Hellraiser novelty is nothing but a memory and Pinhead is a shadow of his former self.
With a finale that teases another inevitable movie I'm saddened that it has come to this. Give Pinhead the peace he deserves.
The Good:
Dog scene was very inventive
The Bad:
No Doug Bradley
Plot goes off the rails, does a 360 spin then lands on 3 kids
Things I Learnt From This Movie:
When an actor becomes as iconic as the character he plays you simply can't recast
