This film dares to take a look at the problem of school shootings by looking at the problem of bullying and cyber-bullying, which are, sadly, continuously relevant aspects of everyday adolescence. This is a great movie for parents to watch with their high school kids-- even in middle school-- both to teach them about why bullying is wrong and to give them strength in overcoming their own potential bully issues in school. It also invites a dialogue about bullying in schools which is EXTREMELY important and not a common enough occurrence.
Hello Herman is a movie full of different perspectives, so it doesn't dogmatically side with the victims or the shooter. To give you an idea of how bold this film is willing to be, the protagonist is a former White Power member who beats a young black boy to death. Whoah, right? Everyone is full of vices that they can't seem to overcome, which is a rare find in this cinematic age of super heroes and seemingly flawless do-gooders.

To start, Hello Herman is a superb movie starring Norman Reedus from the walking dead, directed by Michelle Danner, a renowned acting coach from Los Angeles. Everything from the cinematography to the acting was excellent. The situations that take place in Hello Herman also takes place in real life, which made me emotionally connected to the movie. Hello Herman made me feel that people from all different areas of life need to love more. Love is one of the main feelings that this movie lacked. Actually, many occurrences that took place could have been avoided if there had been more love and understanding in this movie. Hello Herman teaches viewers the value of family bonding and to bond with others in general. To some it may not seem like that big of a deal to bond with others, however, it is really important to stimulate your mind by socializing with others rather than to numb your mind with video games. This movie is a perfect example of that, it is a reminder that video games have a reset button, while in real life you don't. It also shows what can happen when families don't bond or show love to each other. While watching this movie, I put myself in Herman's shoes and imagined what I will do if everything that happened to him happened to me. I probably would not have gone to the extent that Herman did, but I would have searched for ways to resolve the issues that I was facing. Overall, Hello Herman is a great movie to have been made because it shows a real life situation that goes on everyday, but most of the time it goes unheard of. I will definitely recommend Hello Herman to others.

In the new Michelle Danner film "Hello Herman" Norman Reedus plays Lax Morales, a journalist who decides to profile school shooter Herman Howards fresh after his heinous crime. Lax isn't as prepared for the encounter as he thinks, and soon his distant journalist veneer starts to wear off. Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon in the cult television show "The Walking Dead" gives a powerful performance as Morales, the journalist with a conflicted past who searches for the humanity inside a young monster. This is a must see film for anyone, but especially those concerned with the condition of our youth and their future. I highly recommend that everyone see this film. Michelle Danner does an excellent job directing as well as an amazing cameo performance.

I was totally moved by the film Hello Herman. It is a great film with huge emotional influences. It will raise people's interest in the urgent issue of bullying as well as its potential results. It highlights the fact that bullied children may choose to take revenge through acts of serious violence. Bullying is not simply a social issue, but also potentially a criminal act and even a political issue. The messages this film tries to convey are really to the point and will affect everyone from children to adolescents to adults. The story of Herman makes Lax, a popular journalist who interviews Herman after his violent attack, think about his own past, and will do the same for those who view the film. Hello Herman is really a meaningful movie that makes people think deeply about their treatment of others.

Hello Herman is the story of a teenager, who grows up too quickly because he had to face important and actual problems like a single-parent family, bullying, the possibility of buying arms in USA, the accidentally death of his little sister and finally the death penalty. This movie was made by the talented director, actress and producer Michelle Danner and played by the famous actor Norman Reedus. Hello Herman tends to give all it senses to important notions that the everyday people have to face like death, racism, love, cruelty etc. Finally, the movie highlights the different needs that people encounter like the need of recognition, the need to be famous, the need to be loved and love in return, the need of security, and the need of self- actualization, have its own moral.

Gunshots and screams echoing through a school gymnasium: that's how young Herman chose to be heard. From the very beginning, "Hello Herman", a film by Michelle Danner, strikes the audiences attention with the troubled life of Herman Howards. From the very beginning, "Hello Herman", a film by Michelle Danner, strikes the audiences attention with the troubled life of Herman Howards. In this impactful and controversial film, the audience is thrust into the mind of a young murderer, who paralleled the infamous Columbine massacre. Norman Reedus, star of AMC's "The Walking Dead", portrays the role of Internet reporter, Lax Morales. Lax is called upon to record his conversations with young Herman to uproot his reasoning behind his actions. Through Herman's stories, Lax is shown how Herman's life of being bullied by his peers drove him to act as he did. The topic this film brings to light, accentuates the impact of bullying in schools on students. It shows that those who have only known cruelty from others can be driven to show that cruelty in return. The hectic insanity of media coverage and political involvement in these domestic tragedies is well exhibited throughout the film with newscasts on Herman's case; they openly condemn Herman and plague his family with additional heart wrenching grief, bringing his mother to the brink of insanity. Through the relationship between Herman and Lax, Herman's character goes from being perceived as a mindless killer to a helpless, misunderstood boy, reaching out to be heard. The movie itself is beautifully shot and well paced, leaving the audience engaged in both the story lines of Lax Morales and Herman Howards. Through the life of Herman Howards, the audience is thrust into the heartbreaking truth that devaluing human life leads to a breaking point where even the most innocent become the guilty.

Garrett Backstrom plays sixteen-year-old Herman Howards in Michelle Danner's Hello Herman. A teenager troubled by school bullies and a tense home life, Herman makes the unfortunate decision to bring a gun to school one day and massacre over thirty students and faculty at his high school. However, Herman makes an attempt to tell his story to the world by contacting a reporter named Lax for a popular news website. Through his interviews with Lax, Herman prompts the audience to ask itself critical questions regarding youth violence and bullying. What are the causes? How do we prevent this? What is the appropriate response? Backstrom performance shed lights on these questions and more, as Hello Herman prompts societies around the world to consider its role in such tragic occurrences and how to go about effecting the change necessary to truly address the issue.

A good example of bad casting. Why would you cast a 'hunk' in the role of a high school outcast? The lead should have been one of the 'in crowd' bullies. Saw the play and Sawyer Avery was much more the role in a lot of ways. I guess he was not pretty enough for the film. The play was overwrought with redundant speeches. The film's budget fortunately trimmed some of that.
Some of the acting was over-the-top unbelievable. The director seems to have difficulty with anything subtle. Like the casting of Sean Gaul. Look on line for Aryan Brother leaders. Most of the skin head bulls with tats are followers - not leaders. But that is another example of in-your-face weak directing.

The chemistry between the two leads (Reedus and Backstrom) was outstanding. They definitely played off each other and it worked. I also found Herman's mother's (Michelle Danner) monologue to be quite convincing and moving. The great acting is to be expected when a prestigious acting teacher is the director. I think this film is rather important for parents and teachers to see. I can see Danner being persuaded by many others to not make this movie since the subject matter is so controversial. Obviously in the movie, Herman gets bullied to an extent that he plots for revenge and lashes out on his fellow students through murder. This movie reminds us of how an innocent child can transform into a heartless killing machine through the abuse and bullying a child endures. Herman states to Lax that he is human. Everybody needs to be reminded that everybody in this world is human and we all have feelings we go through.

Normally I wouldn't review a movie that I couldn't finish, but I can't let the shill reviews stand. This is a bad movie: badly written, badly acted, and contrived in every element. The quality is lower than a soap opera, the tone is more juvenile than a children's movie, the propaganda is more shameless than North Korean TV. When a movie is so slanted that it makes you question its unfair treatment of child killers and Neo-Nazis something has gone terribly wrong. The subject of school shooters has been handled better in several movies, and this adds nothing, a movie for idiots by idiots. I almost hope that this is some sick satire, it would help me sleep at night knowing that there aren't such demented morons out there, though that wouldn't really change my rating, because then it would just be a very bad joke.
