"It's not like someone's gonna go crying to the police about someone stealing their dirty cash." Vaughn (Morgan) is struggling financially and things get worse when his sick daughter is endanger of being taken off the transplant list if he doesn't have the money soon. He asks his former boss, a man known as The Pope (De Niro) for a loan and is denied. Left with no options he decides to take the money forcefully, but he didn't expect the getaway to get this out of hand. I had pretty low expectations for this movie, not for any reason but usually these B movies with famous actors tend to only have the big name in it for 5 minutes and the rest is boring and unexciting. This is a rare exception. De Niro has a fair amount of screen time and Morgan is in almost ever scene. The movie is both action packed and emotional. The best way to describe this is as a more intense John Q. A movie where you can't help but root for the father even though what he is doing is illegal. This is a very exciting movie to watch and I was surprised at the quality of it. It's easy to see why this wasn't a big release but as far as a straight to video movie this is one of the best ones I have seen. I recommend this. I give it a B+.

So I thought this movie was something totally different. I actually thought this was a movie that came out years ago in which De Niro played a burglar alongside Edward Norton. Come to find out that the title of that movie was "The Score." Although there was a movie called "Heist" from 2001 with Gene Hackman. This was neither of those. This wasn't nearly as intelligent as either of them. In fact this movie was hardly watchable, which is extremely disappointing since De Niro was in it. The plot is fairly simple considering the title: there was a heist. Negan, er um Jeffrey Dean Morgan, plays a struggling card dealer whose daughter is sick. He needs a ton of money to keep her on the list for a critical surgery. I didn't get it wrong, I said he needed money to keep her on a surgery list. I never knew you had pay for that. So the scene is set with that simple backstory. And everything that followed was truly simple. The entire operation, the behavior of the principal actors, and the decision making was appalling. A-PALL-ING. There was a series of some absolutely deplorable decisions that made no sense. I know that misdirection was the driving force behind a lot of the events but like Danny Glover said in Lethal Weapon, "I'm too old for this ****". Be more creative, be more intelligent, or just be better.

Great performances performances by DeNiro, Morgan and Bautista. I feel some parts needed a little more 'oomph' as it felt dragged out a bit - a directing issue perhaps, by novice director Scott Mann, but forgivable seeing this was his 2nd full length feature film. The screenplay could've used some tweaking, but the story itself was great - both by novice writer Stephen C. Sepher. I just wish I heard less of the overbearing constant score that needed to be toned down, but otherwise, an enjoyable crime drama - a gangster film with heart, and a well deserved 8/10 from me

Not sure how much they paid DeNiro to make this VERY amateurish movie, but he can't save this generic, lame, dopey thing. Putting a couple of wrestlers in major acting parts is bad enough, but the writing is at a middle school film project level. That includes the plot, the dialog and the almost random killings throughout. The story at the very basic level is kind of interesting, but totally butchered in the execution. Here are a few idiotic examples. 1. A casino dealer who does a card trick at the table?, then just yells "dealer change" over his shoulder and walks away. Later we see this same dealer wheeling a money cart into the vault, also NEVER done by dealers. This writer has obviously never even been in a casino lol. 2. A guy tells off the owner and gets fired, but his alarm code to the vault where they keep millions in cash still works the next night. 3. A veterinary student is put in charge of caring for a bad guy that got shot, they bargain for medical supplies, one of which is a hypo full of something. She asks the cop who brought it what it is, he says "pain killer" so based solely on that she injects the entire thing in the IV and the guy dies. Then the other bad guys get mad but are not sure who to blame or whatever, just too dumb to put any effort into trying to figure it out. 4. Two words, SWAT motorcycles, wtf? I could go on for days, please save yourself the irritation and skip this thing, unless you want your head to hurt from the stupidity and horrible acting. Shame on you DeNiro!

If in watching Heist you see some resemblance to the Keanu Reeves film Speed I'm sure that was intentional. Passengers in danger on a bus hurtling down a highway with gunmen holding hostages is certainly guaranteed to quicken the pulse of the movie goer. One big difference is that in Speed Dennis Hopper was putting the passengers in harm's way quite deliberately with those remote control bombs. Here this Mobile city bus is taken by robbers in a failed getaway and the whole thing is being improvised. Robert DeNiro who looked tired and I'm sure got a hefty paycheck really kind of phones in his performance. He's the owner/operator of a casino which has a sideline in money laundering. I've written before about prominent players who took a job to work in some exotic location, but Mobile, Alabama. Anyway longtime casino employee Jeffrey Dean Morgan asks DeNiro for a $300,000.00 loan for his little girl's medical treatment. Guess DeNiro didn't have good health insurance for his people. When he gets turned down Morgan and Dave Bautista and others conceive of a plan to rob the casino. When the chase starts after Officer Gina Carano spots something wrong from her patrol car it all gets interesting. After that a whole lot of people aren't quite what they appear to be at first. Among them Carano and Mark-Paul Gosselaar a police lieutenant. As far as Gosselaar is concerned he's not Zack Morris grown up with a badge. The only one who is constant is Morris Chestnut who is DeNiro's chief enforcer. He's a coldblooded killer who really enjoys his work throughout. Heist has some interesting moments. Best in the cast are Carano and Morgan. But boiled down it's your average crime caper. It's also one great advertisement for Obama Healthcare.
