Is this movie good? No, not whatsoever. But that's what makes it so entertaining. It felt twice as long as it really was, and I enjoyed every minute of it- laughing throughout the entire runtime. Grab some friends and some drinks and you'll have a great time!

I sat down to watch the 2021 movie "Heart of the Home" here in 2021, without ever having heard of the movie prior to watching it. So I wasn't sure what to expect from writers Sami Sonnesso and Elisabeth Steen-Nokleberg.
And while "Heart of the Home" is a watchable movie, it just ultimately fell into that particular trope of thrillers with having to share a home with a psychopath. Yeah, there is a bunch of similar movies out there already with the same storyline, more or less, and many of which fared better and proved more entertaining than what "Heart of the Home" turned out to be.
I will say that there were definitely aspects to the storyline here that were rather interesting, but some dubious directing from David Palmieri just put the movie in bad light at times, because it could definitely have been done better.
The acting in "Heart of the Home" was somewhat staggering and wooden, which lead to some of the scenes being cringeworthy or coming off as horribly staged and forced. Especially with some of the delivery of the mediocre dialogue. The movie was held afloat almost exclusively by the performance given by Mia Ando.
I do like the police that turned up in the movie, as they didn't give any warnings before slapping handcuffs on a person, or the fact that they totally ignored the victim on the ground with a knife wound and didn't even bother to check for life signs or start on cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Great writing right there.
"Heart of the Home" feels like a film school project, but I am sure that the people involved in the making of this movie were enjoying it.
I sat through the entire ordeal here, and I find myself less than averagely entertained by what "Heart of the Home" delivered. Sure, it is watchable, but it is not an outstanding movie, nor a particularly memorable one.
My rating of "Heart of the Home" lands on a less than mediocre four out of ten stars. Watchable yes, but not a movie that warrants more than a single viewing.

I normally have a soft spot for stories and movies done independently, because I'm an author. I understand that sometimes you just HAVE to tell your story, and you have to get it out into the world. And I know with movies, that sometimes means the production won't be fantastic, and sometimes the acting isn't the best, and there's no budget for effects.
However, this is a movie that should never have been made. Someone's friend or family should have had a serious discussion about all the problems, and maybe encouraged the crew to workshop it a bit.
There IS a hint of an idea that could be good: what if that roommate you let move in was a psycho killer?
And that's what I think might have happened. The opening title card dares to claim "inspired by true events", and I think it might have been because the woman responsible for this (based on her story, her production, her as the lead actress) once had a weird roommate, and she once wondered what darker things were going on in the other person's life. That's the closest to true this movie gets.
The characters are unlikeable. Natalie is rude, as Miko accuses, thus her plight isn't sympathetic. The third roommate is barely around, but her performance was so odd when she WAS around that I couldn't tell if the director was asking her to play up the accent. Miko isn't scary or intimidating, but rather brash and weird, and set up red flags from word one that she shouldn't be allowed to move in.
So many characters have stupid reactions that I can't even call it a plot hole. Like when the dog goes missing from his crate but none of the apartment doors were open, and no body calls the cops for a stolen dog. Natalie gets yelled at about how crazy her new roommate is being, then does nothing to kick the new girl out. One of the neighbors gets killed, and there are never any questions from cops nor anyone noticing that guy isn't around anymore.
The acting is awful, the script is even worse, and the director/cinematographer should never be allowed to work a camera again. Too many oddly framed shots and close ups and cuts, and no idea how to light scenes to create tension without washing it all out.
Just skip it. There is nothing redeemable, and I can't recommend it even in the relentless search for entertainment of '20/'21.

The only thing horrifying about this movie was how poor the acting is and the way it was directed.
Its unbelievable that someone could make a movie like this.

I loved this !! Great watch. Elisabeth Steen-Nokleberg is a future hollywood star. The most important message from this amazing film, is be careful who you let move in with you.
