Well I decided to watch Hatchet after the relatively high rating on this site. All I can say is I don't know what movie everyone else watched but Hatchet did not even deserve the 1 star that I gave it. The characters and the plot were so painfully stupid that I found myself shouting at the screen. The only reasons I can see anyone giving it a high rating is the gratuitous nudity and excessive gore. Sadly although I enjoy gore in horror movies the death scenes lacked originality and creativity. If you are planning on buying or renting this movie I would recommend you resist the urge. This movie should have gotten the Hatchet on the drawing board.

Yea I was skeptical. Yes I was armed, ready to scrutinize. Yes over-hyped movies have a tendency to disappoint. But, and this is a Patricka Darbo sized BUT, you just cannot deny a film that is fun. I know reviews are mixed but I loved it. Hatchet just plain works for me. Gratuitous nudity (check), extreme gore (check), laugh out loud funny (check), horror legends (check), over the top, cheesy acting (check). If you love the days when horror was fun, you will love this film. If you love the days when horror turned into Schindler's List (think Hostel and Captivity) you may be disappointed. Either way, you are doing yourself a disservice by not checking this out in theaters.

When Hatchet director Adam Green signed Kane Hodder to play Victor Crowley I knew we were in for a treat. After the Freddy vs Jason screw-job, a motivated Kane with creative control has equaled some of the most brutal kill scenes ever filmed. That alone makes this movie worth seeing for horror fans. The only pity is that the year is 2007, and not 1980-something. This film would have been huge back then. But sadly, today's casual movie-goer is spoiled by bloated special effects and trendy "stars" showing their flabby a$$es all over the big screen. Most of them can't find appreciation for a good, old-fashioned horror film. They'd rather see a zillion remakes. Hatchet gets my vote for it's beautiful cinematography, relentless kills, and witty dialogue. The storyline delivery is lacking just a bit yes, but c'mon, what horror movie's isn't? Quit taking life so seriously. Go see Hatchet and have some fun.
