The story starts out rather cleverly on Easter morning. It contrasts roommates, Hank and Mike on how they spend the night of their biggest day in their career. Mike is fast asleep in bed while Hank smokes cigarettes, drinks beer and abuses himself to a scrambled porno movie. Clearly they are the "odd couple." As fate would have it, they miss the last house on their route (they do a lot of breaking and entering). Since the company has opted to downsize, they find themselves out of a job. Now Easter Bunnies in the workforce is a funny thing. They work for UPS, but hide the packages. They work for a school and serve the kids chocolate. Unfortunately their work failures due to being an Easter Bunny is in the form of a montage and not really exploited to its comic potential. After Hank pawns Mike's Golden Egg award, the movie becomes dark as each one must now deal with their failure resorting to drink and drugs. The bunny aspect no longer plays a role as they become any two losers and the movie becomes boring. It remains boring up until the very end when they devise a plan to get their jobs back. Nudity, language, simulated sex (mostly in the first half). Decent soundtrack.

I caught this on Netflix awhile back, sadly it's now gone from there for any of those looking to watch this film. Though, the film itself is about two guys who work as easter bunnies, an odd idea out the door, yet it embraces that oddity and runs with it through darker tones, dark and dry humor and more to finish with a solid movie that will make you crack up at least a few times. The film is not for everyone, if you're a fan of the darker things Bad Santa, God Bless America etc, then this will be up your alley. It's a movie to grab a bag or two of pop-corn with your mates, and chill out with a few drinks and some good laughs along the way. It's one I recommend all the time, and haven't had someone hate it yet.

Thomas Michael is as magnetic and attractive as his work. In Hank and Mike, the concept is hilarious and the delivery is oh so smooth. It's insanely creative to take this kind of spin on Easter, and it's bunnies. The characters are colourful and rich, not to mention vivaciously funny. There are scenes in the film where you literally stand up, look around the room and say " this guy, this Thomas Michael is CRAZY GOOD." This film will go down in history, it will never get old and will ALWAYS make you laugh. A film to watch after every Easter Dinner, once the kids hit the hay of course. I look forward to seeing where Thomas Michael's many talents take him...

I rented this movie without knowing anything about it and with no expectations. It turned out to be one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. Thomas Michael plays the role of a womanising, heavy drinker who is quite comfortable with his imperfections very well. His character is the deadpan needed for the running jokes throughout the movie. Mike, Paolo Mancini, lives for Easter and brilliantly plays the role of the straight laced guy, who's ready to snap at any moment. Hank and Mike complement each other perfectly, as the two Easter bunnies, with their individual glaring character flaws helping to highlight the underlying sense of reality throughout the film. A stand out performance is Chris Klein, who plays an excellent role as a cut-throat contractor hellbent on making a fast buck at anyones expense, and has one of the best scenes singing The Burning Hells karaoke demonstrating how his character may be more tragic than the two bunnies put together. The bunny suits are a brilliant visual aid and work extremely well to emphasise the darkest moments, of an already extremely dry comedy. The film would still work without the suits and Easter bunnies, but it would lack the satire along with the ability to draw you into a universe where being an Easter bunny is a job and that is how it is. The film is not a rip-roaring comedy adventure in the world of hilarious Easter bunnys, but rather a tragic reality, where you cant help but laugh at the flaws, interactions and one liners the well developed characters have to offer, something akin to Arrested Development or Office Space as opposed to American Pie or anything with Rob Schneider. If you take the time and allow yourself to be taken into their world without expectations of a blockbuster comedy, I hope you will be thankful and enjoy this gem that slipped under the radar.

The problem with the movie is that it tries to be so clever but it just isn't. Now that does not mean you might not like it (or find it justifiable funny in contrast to me). Bear in mind, this is how I saw it (and I'm assuming you two, though I won't reveal the ending, but speak of the one big thing, the movie has going throughout for it), so this is what I think is wrong with it. The problem the movie has is that it is inconsistent. If you go with an idea (as crazy as it is), go with it all the way. But making guys easter bunnies, you have to be clear about things. Of course you can say there are no rules to guys playing bunnies (though if you sell them as bunnies, then you should at least apply the simplest of rules on them) ... You cannot have one bunny have intercourse as a human being would have (not to mention, that he apparently has nothing down there to please the woman he is with ... and yes male bunnies do have something down there. Again you might find that nit-picking, but I think it should have been more thorough. This is something where a movie stars to loose me. But there are things too. The inciting incident (not delivering an easter egg), is one of the weakest things that could happen. It's like advertising not to do your job. The chemistry between the two main guys is all over the place (conflict just exists, when it needs to be there for the story to move on, which is kinda lame). The ending is completely bad, having almost to do nothing with the rest and just trying to create a feeling in the viewer (and in my eyes does not work one bit, as most of the dry jokes too).

It's too bad they felt a need to make this an R rated movie. Even though it was a little dark, and it was full of great intellectual humor, there was enough situational humor that I think it could have been a mainstream holiday hit. It's not for little kids, obviously, but I have older nieces and nephews (even as young as 10) who would have thought this movie was hysterical. I hate the fact that I can't recommend it to my sister and other people with kids because the language and sexual activity is so foul. I loved it. For those people who thought it wasn't funny - I'm thinking you didn't get it.

Terrific dark comedy. The beauty of "Hank and Mike" is that the one joke premise has been nicely expanded into a feature. In addition to the black comedy, there is drama, and even a little romance. The idea of sponsored suicides, which is hysterically dark to begin with, is nicely melded into the plot. Like "Office Space" and "Bad Santa", the two movies I would say are closest to "Hank and Mike" , it is very re-watchable. There are some serious laugh out loud moments, nudity, gross out humor, and lots more. I would definitely think that "Hank and Mike" has an excellent possibility of achieving cult status. Highly recommended of it's type. - MERK

With its unusual premise of a company that owns all American holidays and hires seasonal employees to be Easter bunnies who have the difficult job of delivering chocolate eggs to kids in the middle of the night, this should have been a cute comedy but alas, it fell flat. My sister and I believed the DVD blurbs about it being a clever satire of corporate America and tried to watch it. The vulgarity and the repetitive jokes made that too much of a chore. There is nothing funny about two chain smoking, junk food eating, depressed people who are out of work. It should have come as no surprise to either Mike or Hank, since they were abusive to their fellow employees and sexually harassed every woman in the office. Characters can be sympathetic losers if they are lovable losers (as Bobcat Goldthwait was in HOT TO TROT). We could stand about a half hour of HANK AND MIKE and no more. I was sorry I rented it and still am!
