A good concept, not an original one but with a real potential to be both fun and scary, and a creepy-looking DVD cover were what drew me into seeing 'Gremlin' in the first place. Also do have a high appreciation for horror/sci-fi, and thee are a fair share of good to great, even classic, examples.
'Gremlin' is not to be confused with the 1984 film (a great one) of the same name, either as a film or in assuming it is connected to that film. They have nothing in common other than the title. Seeing 'Gremlin', it has its good points, that stop it from being a complete shambles, but a lot of bad ones that stop it from living up to its concept. There are certainly far worse films in the genre and overall and it didn't leave me angry or cringing, just that it is very underwhelming that doesn't do a good job with its objectives of being fun or scary.
There are good points. The creature effects are surprisingly competent and the monster does evoke some genuine creepiness. 'Gremlin' has moments of excitement, creepiness and suspense, like with the Anna and the monster confrontation.
It's effectively lit and shot too sometimes. The soundtrack has eeriness when it isn't being intrusive or obvious.
Sadly, too many things bring it down. The acting ranges from barely adequate to embarrassing, worst of all being Kristy K. Boone whose performance was all over the place. The characters are uninteresting and annoying, with naively silly and sometimes illogical decision making and behaviours, a primary example being with the police.
Excitement, thrills, creepiness and suspense are too far and between. The scares are generally not enough and suffer from predictability and lack of tension. The lack of atmosphere makes the pacing suffer, giving 'Gremlin' a dull feel frequently. The story is far too minimal, another thing that affects the pacing with the padding and over-stretching, bland and often ridiculous.
Rest of the visual effects are pretty bad and the editing is sloppy, also too many instances of the camera work being unfocused and the sound/soundtrack killing the atmosphere with over-obviousness. The direction is not a hack job as such, but there is very little distinguished about it.
Overall, 'Gremlin' wasn't irredeemable but it underwhelms. 3/10 Bethany Cox

Whomever ok'd this piece of garbage to hit the market needs to have all his rights as a human taken away. Hands down the worst ?movie? I've ever sat through. This wasn't even laughable bad. I just had to see how worst it got & I promise it don't disappoint. They couldn't have had a editor? Sloppy is to kind. I'n sorry but GREMLIN? Whose decision was that to name it GREMLIM? If any movie deserves a minus is this one. Terrible. Stay far far away from

Trying to get back on his feet, a man raising his family at his mother's house finds that a gift received during their visit subjects the family to a strange cursed creature that lives in the box and must find a way of dealing with the special creature before the authorities find them.
This here was quite the decent if somewhat flawed creature feature. Among the better features here is the fact that this one really generates a lot of fun out of its central creature. The presentation of the beast stuck inside the box where it's needed to be passed along to others before it gets loose and goes on a rampage is rather fun and unique which makes this stand out rather nicely by making for a solid premise. The rules and requirements that it goes through are quite engaging as they give this one some rather potent ideas to go through when it brings about the different scenes of the creature appearing to stalk and attack the family. The initial scene of it appearing in the house to stalk the elder is quite chilling, the attack on the family when it comes out during the family gathering to chase them around until it finally strikes is a fantastic action scene and the standout sequence of the creature attacking and then stalking the daughter through the house emerges as an insanely chilling and creepy sequence that serves as a fine highlight scene. As well, the massive chase to get to the motel on the suburban streets in a mad dash through the area to get there in time which is a rather fun sequence that has some solid action. Given the way the creature's actions play out in the finale with the house where they keep battling the creatures that emerge from inside as there's a rather enjoyable finale that's got plenty of exciting action thrown in as well. With a cool-looking creature design utilized here, these manage to offer up to like to lift it up over it's few minor flaws. The main issue present here is the incredibly thin storyline that really struggles to stay consistent the entire time. It's not that often that something happens in this one which makes any sense as there are too many scenes here that force this one to go on way too long because the film has a need to get to a feature-length time. This one has the type of storyline that fits better in an anthology rather than a feature-length effort and that comes across way too often here as this one makes out the storyline need to explain the rules of it all. That goes alongside the rather weak CGI that serves to denote the creature's appearance, as despite the fun design it has too many scenes where it doesn't interact with the setting all that often. These here are what hold this one back.

I was expecting to find a cheap rip-off of the film "Gremlins." That's certainly what you would expect from a movie entitled "Gremlin." But it isn't. The story is completely different. This "gremlin" isn't at all like those we find in the other movie. They were mischievous, violent, destructive and sometimes they even killed people. But somehow overhanging that story was a sense of fun. Even with the terrible things that happened, you couldn't help but chuckle. Not here. There's nothing funny about this "gremlin" - and there's only one. He's a murderous little spider-like beast who lives inside a box that has come into the possession of a family who can't get rid of it. They can't destroy it; they can't "lose" it. It just keeps coming back. And one by one they face the inevitable: a violent, bloody death. There's no whimsical theme music here. It's dark; this really is a horror movie. And the most surprising thing of all about this? I actually enjoyed it!
That I wasn't expecting. But this is a decent little movie. It's short and it's fast paced. It dives right into the story, and it manages to put together an imaginative tale about how this box and this creature came to be. I even thought the performances from a little known cast were decent enough. Not great perhaps, but good enough that they didn't take away from my ability to enjoy this. The creature was interesting - and in some ways seemed to be paying a little bit of homage to the "Alien" creature as well as to the "Gremlins."
You can't (and shouldn't) take this too seriously. If you do - then, yeah, it's a pretty weak movie. But if you approach it with realistic expectations it's actually a lot of fun - and, to be honest, in some ways I think I actually liked this a little more than 1984's "Gremlins." (7/10)

There was nothing good about this movie, the acting was some of the worst I have ever seen, even for a Sci-Fi movie.
The gremlin looks horrible, and doesn't fit into the picture in any way, and the story is horribly flawed.

The concept is doable with the right writer, director, and cast, but without any of these as well as how the movie plays out, it is so bad I don't have the energy to write a review.
