I remember seeing this movie for the first time on HBO movies then later getting the movie on dvd . I truly loved this movie, I was only disappointed in the fact that no sequels where in the works and it ended kind of you wanting more. The acting was good and special effects was amazing. Science fiction and horror fans I'll see you definitely need this in your collection ASAP.

Sure, it's predictable. This is basically the same story as _Pitch Black_. And why is it that science fiction basically revolves around horror themes? It would be nice to see a really thought-provoking science fiction film that consisted of more than a motley group of people trying to escape from some monster. Given this, _Ghosts of Mars_ is really a pretty decent film and John Carpenter's best in some time. I really wanted to like _Vampires_ and much of that was pretty good, but the small budget really hurt. Here, Carpent uses the budget limitations to positive effect. Most of the money apparently went for red dye for the ground. The buildings and "futuristic" train didn't require much. The story basically boils down to the basic stalk and slash as dozens of other "science fiction" films of recent vintage, but there isn't a lot of time wasted on extraneous plot. The story is well-told, via a pretty complicated series of flashbacks and even flashbacks within flashbacks, as a group of gung-ho Martian police attempt to pick up a transport a prisoner, played by Ice Cube, only to discover that the mining station where he's being held has been overrun by the spirits of dead Martians, who inhabit their host bodies and make them do their bidding. The story is also basically an updating of one of Carpenter's earliest films, _Assault on Precinct 13_. Along the way, there are intriguing glimpses at the matriarchical society that runs Mars, although it is never explained how or why things got to be this way. Carpenter supplies some neat music to the film's soundtrack as well. All in all, there are certainly worse ways to spend your money.

OhhHhh John Carpenter you're a genius! I love your film! Best comedy ever!!!! I would watch this movie 100's of times and watch as sheberra's head gets cut off, and the repetition of scenes due to under funding... oh john... you're just amazing. Why I liked this movie? It was humorous to observe a great director who had directed many films such as, "Mouth of madness," and "Thing." However, in a way I feel sorry for John Carpenter for having such terrible actors.... I didn't like the plot, but it all came together in the end which is why this film should be watched by everyone! Things you may not like.... How annoying some of the things are, such as the technicalities.... oh yes, and the flashbacks are quite fun, especially since the whole movie is encased in a flashback, which has more scenes in another flashback, which has some scenes in another flashback.... Another black hole...

It's 3 AM on a midsummer's night and I just watched Carpenter's "Ghosts of Mars from television. Please excuse me for any errors in this review, but I'd like to say this now. This movie could be described as hardcore action movie. It is important to say that it's not about bad manners but meaningful bad manners. Some modern scifi movies such as "Pitch Black" has meaningless posturing and insulting and bad manners, but in this movie people insult others with a grin. On some occasion the director even lets the viewer's nerves rest with compassion and gentleness. This is an intelligent action movie which takes a lot of nerve with it's sharp Carpenter-style violence and brutality, and perhaps suits best for people who choose to listen heavy rock and hang out with motorcyclists. Perhaps too hardcore for my taste. Still, this movie is A, not B as some have said; a classy movie with the vision of a great director. It is very consistent and the scifi features are captivating.
