After a day of packing we decided to settle in and watch a movie before calling it a night. I'd like to give this movie only one star, but I did sit through the entire thing, after all. Aside from the horrible acting from the two main characters, the only thing that stood out to me were the horrible spray tans the two girls had. I've seen pictures of both of these actresses without a spray tan and they are both quite beautiful when they are not orange. It was just odd. It was nice seeing "Fez" again...he's come a long way since his days on That 70s Show :) Man...ten lines of text? OK...what else can I say? The movie was just not very good.

No exaggeration, this is the worst movie I have ever seen. Where to even start? The plot was haphazard, illogical, and nonsensical. Jane Austen would be absolutely appalled by this piece of sh*t. Others have echoed a similar sentiment, but I'll reiterate: HOW WAS THIS MOVIE EVEN MADE?! I have seen low budget student films with better acting and dialogue, and I have seen some pretty bad student films.
Camilla Belle acted like she was a dead narwhal. As for Alexa Vega, I've seen hookers act better.
If you decide to watch this movie, be prepared for a slow and painful death. I regretted every second of this disaster.

This movie has characters all over it, some with ridiculously short skirts and way too high heels. It has elements of a culture completely unrelated to my country, Australia, yet the peoples emotional connections come through clearly. I've known ethnic groups and come from half Italian one myself, enough to be able to recognise the clarity of the writing with respect to the beliefs and customs of these Mexican people living in LA. I have been to LA but didn't go to East LA apart from some fast food stands in Glendale ;) but the murals and artwork, the street appeal of it all is right there in this movie. It's very real and not just pandering to a pc crowd of wannabe humanitarians, it's the real deal. At the same time it's light hearted enough to be a romantic comedy but deep enough to capture some real human emotion. As I said in my title, it's much better than you'd think it will be. Damn girl that dress is short!

When I rented this movie from Redbox I was looking for something light hearted & funny! I was pleasantly surprised that this movie delivered both!I liked the Hispanic twist in the movie! I thought it showed how people of all nationalities can work together, regardless of their perceived social status. A riches to rags story! What do two wealthy Hispanic sisters do, when they discover that their fortune from Daddy dearest has suddenly disappeared? Mary & Nora are forced to make a decision on how they will live their lives and start over! The two sisters find themselves trying to make the best of a bad situation! Nora takes law school seriously, which doesn't leave her much time for any romantic relationships. Mary, Nora's younger sister, loves her fancy labels and only dates wealthy good looking men. Though the two sisters are totally opposite, they find themselves working together to start their lives over again with a new beginning! This movie gives us a glimpse on how to handle adversities in our lives when we are faced with unexpected circumstances? Will we allow the circumstances to steal our joy or will we look at our circumstances as a new adventure down an unknown path? A cute story about two sisters who find their lives turned upside down, when their father unexpectedly dies and leaves them penniless! Even though the two sisters are totally opposite, they find a way to come together and sort out their lives! Will Nora open up to the possibility of a new love and still be able to have her dream career? Will Mary discover that fancy labels, fast cars and rich men are not all they are cracked up to be? Discover how Nora & Mary put together the pieces of their fractured lives and learn a whole new way of living!

If I had one word to describe this movie, I would use the word 'awful' and as far as movies go that's a killer. I find it hard to believe that so many reviewers called this movie beautiful, it was nowhere close, a combination of a bad script and pretty awful acting, especially on the behalf of Alexa Vega the movie turned out to be quite a disappointment. Another thing is that the cover is misleading not that that makes a significant difference. Finding it hard to even fill in 10 lines about this awful movie with this kind of a plot where even the main actors has no morals it seemed, made the most absurd and unbelievable decisions and yet predictable. Worst part of it was the acting, all in all, don't watch it, its a waste of time and money.

I wonder why the average vote is 4.4 over 10? This is actually a good movie.
This movie is add a lot of Mexico perspectives that have both advantages and disadvantages. Disadvantages, in east LA is Mexico area so they are quite dangerous, not unclean or quite barbarous. But advantages, families in here usually live together in very large numbers for instance Norah and Mary's cousin that is only women live together in one house. Such a big family.
At first Norah and Mary were not familiar with these Mexico area and Mary was underestimate the Mexican even though she's Mexican too. And they were took stuff's away like their BMW car and Mary's Prada bag. When the time was pass, they were getting accustomed to these atmospheres. I love the way they were in that time. Norah has a great job and Mary going to study. Also they learn Spanish too.
I was sympathize with Juanito that fall in love with Mary but she didn't usually care about him. And I love this sentence 'sometime you play a game even when you know you're gonna lose.(Juanito) Or sometimes, you leave a game even when you know you can win.(Norah)'.
This movie is really warm story. I don't what to say but I really love it!

I saw the trailer on this movie while watching another movie and made a point to see it. I was disappointed in what could have been a great story line turn out to be cheesy.
Possible Spoiler: There were a handful of points in the movie that I found myself asking, what? For instance, I couldn't figure out why the illegitimate brother was able to live in the house and remodel it as opposed to the bank taking it back for bankruptcy debt. Or, how the youngest could still afford college? Or how the oldest had possibly not finished college but had her pick of jobs as an attorney.
I loved the idea although of it being a film about the Hispanic culture and an inside view of the barrio. There was a sense of community and culture in the film that I loved. I think we need more films by Hispanic producers, writers and actors.

I enjoyed this movie. It may not have the most amazing acting but I can tell the people in it are having fun. I loved the slices of Mexican/American culture. It is a pretty clean comedy compared to most PG- 13 ones. The expanded rating gives the reasons for the PG-13. It is a unique variation of the Jane Austin movie it is based on. I think the parts in Spanish are much more entertaining if you know Spanish. Although you can still enjoy it even if you do not know Spanish. If you know nothing of LA or some Mexican traditions this is probably not the movie for you. I liked it more for the culture and the moral lessons. I would watch this movie again which is a lot to say since most movies fail to entertain me after one sitting.
