Mr. Jack and Sweet Stephen cruise aimlessly through the streets of LA speculating about life, death, divine will and the force of power that predetermines their existence. Mr. Jack attempts to illustrate to his sidekick the delicate and natural forces of the universe. Sweet Stephen's superficial charm and bloodsucking lifestyle sends him and Mr. Jack on a voyage that is relentless, engaging, and darkly hilarious.

I will start this article by conceding some points. yes the film cover is very misleading both in showing what kind of film it is and who the main stars are. Yes the film is made by a * director who has little experience outside that field although he has directed several episodes of OZ! Every review I have read has hated this film. I think maybe people's opinion may be clouded because it was not the movie they expected when they purchased the DVD. This movie is full of original characters and clever story telling. The dialogue (although not as good) is very much in the Cohen brothers/ Tarantino style of talk for the sake of thought rather than plot development and although the story is quite interesting the film is more about getting you thinking or talking about the issues it raises. IE - what is wrong and what is right and why do these 2 opposing forces exist in the human psyche. This is an original film and should be viewed not as a comedy but as a chance to spend and hour and 10 minutes enjoying some unique characters and discuss a subject which is part of the make up for all our psyches and not as a slapstick comedy that will make you chuckle twice if your lucky. Enter this film with the correct expectations and you are in for a real treat. The film does have a religious undertone but I do not feel it was trying to use religion as anything other than a means to discuss the way we battle with "right and wrong" in our own minds

Don't let the lazy / crappy marketing decisions that are riding on Galifianakis' Hangover coattails (this was made first but released after, BTW...) crimp an otherwise charming dark comedy. The performances are all great (though Tommy as portrayed by Adam Baldwin is my personal favorite), and its dark, poignant, and biting takes on humanity are clever and spot-on. The scene with Mister Jack and Sweet Stephen in the movie theater is FANTASTIC and echoes most sentiments I've witnessed / experienced in a post-home video theater-going experience. This movie should not just be marginalized because there are those who are trying to sell Hangover-adjacent units and do not really get that we know this is not what this movie is about. Yes, Bucky is hilarious, and the filmmakers are probably very glad to have been able to get Zach then, because now there's such a queue, but truth be told, it is not he that makes this movie. Hopefully, enough people out there will not be waylaid by poor decisions made by people trying to cash in on the magic money cow that has become Zach Galifianakis.

I agree with jeremyrain on all accounts. This movie is dark, outrageous, funny, disturbing... It's both well-written and well-acted. The casting was right on as well. If you are looking for a light and funny Zach Galifianakis comedy, you'll be disappointed (like some of the previous reviewers). But try to forget that Zach seems to be the face for the film (at least on the DVD box) and give it a chance. While his scene is important and great in its own right, this movie has much, much more to offer. I loved this film & would highly recommend it. Definitely worth watching.

I, like many others, was drawn to this movie because Zach Galifianakis was on the cover. It was not at all what I expected it to be, but I was not disappointed in the slightest. Very interesting, thought provoking, and the dialogue and story are good. Also worth mentioning, the acting was excellent. Zach is not a major part of this movie, so if you're in the mood for a movie that he is more involved in, skip this one and come back to it later(but don't disregard it). Don't be afraid to give it a shot due to the bad reviews, but don't expect to fall out of your seat laughing either.

Maybe I can count myself lucky, because I decided to watch this movie because of it's original title: "Little Fish, Strange Pond". I quite often feel like a little fish in a strange pond - a very strange pond. While watching this movie I realized, there probably are quite some people, to whom that pond seem even more strange, which made me laugh - at first. Soon enough one get a feeling. You couldn't predict anything, but you feel this is going from bad to worse and I suddenly was not sure whether I laughed because it was funny or my laughter was plainly hysterical. I saw this movie last week and I was ever since having some thoughts I didn't ever before. I must admit others who have seen this movie might not have been stirred up like me and again others might not have liked being stirred up. I think that's the reason this movie gets a lot of low ratings and yet some excellent ones.

Plain and simply Awful: I rented this movie for a $1.07 and feel I've been robed. I don't usually do reviews but took the time to warn you: Do NOT, I repeat DO NOT watch this movie; if you value yourself and your time. Bad dialogue pointless or almost non existing theme, it's not some sort of new art it's just a really bad movie with actors you may have seen before (agents should be punished literally like physical or standing in a corner for two weeks or something more creative than the movie itself and then fired for getting them these parts). It has nothing to do with being intellectual or understanding anything. It's just a really bad movie maybe good for a seminar on art school of what not to do as a director, writer, producer, camera operator, gaffer, grip etc.... I voted 1 because 0 is not an option. You've been warned...

It's so frustrating ... you rent this movie because Zack is on the cover and you think that this is a fun movie like "The Hangover"and "Due Date".They used the Zack image as a decoy to attract the more hardcore fans just to get more money. This movie is a trap!! Not funny at all! Move away from that! I am very disappointed by Zack agreed to take part in this crap ... Do not watch this. It is a trap from which you will bitterly regret if you fall... I rented this thing after I watched "due date" which was really fun and I just wanted to have more. I love Zack G. and I really expected I could enjoy this film as much as I enjoyed the previous one. But there's no how to compare one thing with the other. Some people may say that they had fun watching this "thing" but I doubt. If regret could kill, I would be dead by now.

The philosophical questions raised and explored in this film are very deep indeed, pertaining to life, death, love, good, and evil. It provokes many thoughts in the minds of the audience, if you are paying close enough attention to understand the subliminal messages. The first time through it was great, I was left stunned. The second time I watched this with my grandfather, and he elaborated on the messages that Gregory Dark is trying to convey with this film, answering many questions in my mind, and making me love this movie all the more. On the third time around, it was set in stone, as my favorite movie as of yet in my life, and has yet to be surpassed. It may take a couple views to fully understand the meaning behind this film, but then again this movie isn't for everyone, clearly the people giving bad reviews don't understand this movie, as they were expecting more of a comedy because of Zach Galifanakis on the cover. No offense to the people who didn't enjoy this, as most of the people here in the US wouldn't like this movie, but if you are not only intelligent but either in acceptance of wisdom or wise yourself as well, then this movie is for you. Also, the Indie/Alternative music in this film is fantastic! Fits in perfectly with the emotion of the story. The Silent Years and Matt Boroff & The Mirrors are now two of my favorite groups because of this movie! Whenever I listen to them my mind is reminiscent of scenes in the movie (that may be improper grammar, but that don't give me one shite, as long as you understand the point I'm trying to get across ^u^ ). =)
