A grave perception of how going into a new chapter with a severe head space. We see he done had a terrible endo no with his girlfriend and the way he's coping only gets more out of control due to desperation. A notable symbol, in this case, His glasses, plays a major role. At the start of the film we see a grieving Nick from a three year relationship, clearly uninterested in anything else to get his mind off. His roommate and so called friend Billy is a symbol of peer pressure , manipulation abd deception. It may throw the viewer off track much like it did to me at first. Multiple scenes are shown where Billy is voicing for Nick however Nick doesn't seem to be aware he's being set up;
"Oh that's my roommate, Nick. Coolest guy ever. He comes from this old money in Ohio, Coopertire"
And we can see in this scene Nick is clearly unaware of the set up of building him up before he's broken again.
As mentioned before, Nicks glasses, plays a major role. They're the number one item that Makes Nick, Nick. However with Billy strongly insisting to rid the glasses, we begin to see a Nick that is loosing himself out of desperation therefore he ends up trying too hard. It doesn't occur to him until it's too late.
Overall I find the film not too far off from real life despite the over exaggerated partying, sex, and the way frats and sororities function. Not that far off, so I see this as a GREAT lesson to anyone going into college especially with a bad headspace. Bad headspaces make the individual more vulnerable and desperate much like we seen with Nick Cooper.

This movie is a harsh satire of fraternity life, but while also being hilarious at moments. Anything with Billy and Adam is hysterical. Such an entertaining watch. My go-to on Prime.

This movie always hits right. The scenes of the frat president chewing out his pledges are some of the funniest and sometimes most purposefully over the top scenes around. Never gets old

Unlike many of the films that make up the modern corpus of cinema, this movie isn't so bad that it's good, it's so good that it's bad. On first viewing you will be disgusted with the depravity and bigotry depicted herein, but once the shock has settled you will be left uneasy by the surrealist pacing that this moviegoer can only imagine was intentional. On your second and third viewing, you will realize this film for the masterpiece it truly is. It is a greek tragedy, about greek life.
At first the film passes quickly, and many lines feel like non-sequitors. As the plot sets in, and our protagonist adjusts to the rigid yet nonsensical structure of Greek life, the confusion settles and the pace becomes more regular. His descent into debauchery is absolutely Orphic, save for his failure to safely navigate an exit from the hell he has volunteered himself to. By the ending he is doomed to become a shade, the true specter of his innocent self.
Justin Marks punctuates both chaotic and passive scenes with his frantic and frankly wonderful performance as the all-too-unbelieveable Billy Hawkins, a role for which I believe he should have received an award.
Having given this wonderful film a due and proper consideration, I hereby award it two clenched fists in the air.

The movie start pretty light. You got Billy the party prone dude who don't give a shit about his studies, and Nick the serious nerdy guy who is at the university for his futur and clearly not for parties.
I am really sorry but to give a proper opinion of this movie i had to include spoilers. Thing is it start like you would expect, American Pie meet Van Wilder kinda thing but eventually it somewhat make such a huge turn and become serious.
The main character for a fair chunk of the movie was unlikable to me. I was much more with Billy on the whole lets party and have fun vibe. I can understand if university students in life would relate more to Nick as he is closer to reality, but when the 2 characters are such extremes, you tend to go with the more likable funny one.
But as the movie progress, Nick start to enjoy partying and the new things he got like girls to have sex with and such. But eventually before you realize it, Nick is becoming such a jerk and push it way too far. This is where most movies would start the redemption ark. Where the character realize he has been a douche bag, that he is with the wrong girl and apologies and try to correct his mistakes.
But not this movie, everything goes to shit for Nick and he is even rejected by the douchebag fraternity he was pursuing. I knew the movie was on for some time but this is when i tought the redemption ark would start, but boom it just end...
I can respect the idea of the writer, pretty much telling us that becoming something your not just to fit it is not a solution, it can corrupt your good nature as you start to enjoy the "dark side" and eventually when you are rejected by those peoples making you change, you have nothing left. I get all of this but still what a sad and abrupt ending.
The thing is the movie never really show sign of such direction. You are having a good time as a viewer with the parties and girls and seeing that boring nerd becoming finally someone cool, wich is something i always like in movies as i can relate to that, but then it shift so fast into darker territories that you just didn't see it come.
But since it left an impact on me, even if not the one expected, i got to give it credit.

I don't know what it is about this film but i loved it
maybe it's the fact that nick's storyline just kept on going downhill until it crashes and we're left with that

The only good part about this entire movie is billy's roomate. The acting is better in middle school theater classes and the plot is overall garbage.
Not to mention that the Greek life in the movie is completely fictionalized by including extreme racism and a weird * for money which isn't humorous at any point of the movie. The main character's development is just not interesting and by the end of you movie i'm just glad it is over. The netflix fast forward button is definitely helpful when watching this cancer so make sure to use it if you ever decide to put this on for torture.
