I'm just wondering, how come there are so many junk movies with higher rates out there and this gem gets almost 5? You must be kidding me. Foe is one of the most touching films I've ever seen. So gripping you can barely take your eyes off of it. Amazing story, great actings, spectacular scenery, compelling shots, haunting music and all and all makes it one of the best sci-fi movies in a while. Saoirse Ronan is at her best. FOE is a startling movie about the meaningless positions of humanity in universe. A philosophical approach to the hollowness of existence. A glimpse into the future, and the horrifying incidents that await us. It's just a matter of time.
Just loved it!

The story unfolds with the mysterious arrival of Terrance, claiming government affiliation. He proposes that Junior leaves home for years to pilot a space program amid Earth's rapid deterioration. Junior resists, but Henrietta absorbs the news, aware of an extensive plan to watch over her during his absence.
Terrance integrates into their lives, conducting interviews and revealing startling visions of the future and grim truths from the past.
Despite stunning visuals and A-list talent, "FOE" falls short. Efforts to inject substance are undermined by nonsensical storytelling and awkward dialogue. Esteemed actors can't salvage the film's status, and deep conversations fall short due to a weak script.
On the surface, "FOE" presents a visually stunning experience, featuring the talents of Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal, and Aaron Pierre as they journey through, picturesque landscapes and delve into profound human emotions like love and loss.
Despite being the central focus, the exploration of Hen and Junior's marriage is not interesting at all.
Junior's possessiveness and jealousy of Hen's interactions with Terrance are unsurprising, while Hen expresses a feeling of stifling predictability in the marriage.
She shares with Terrance the struggle of losing her sense of self within the confines of her unhappy marriage.
Despite her evident discontent, the film persistently attempts to portray her situation as if everything is fine, thereby undermining the sole narrative thread of the story.
The film's superficial ending may prompt you to question the worth of the time you've spent watching it.
Even though it strives to take cues from the sci-fi thriller genre, specifically "Black Mirror," "FOE" fails miserably.

A dismal movie with just good acting by Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal and Aaron Pierre, if by good acting one includes sitting, chatting, punching the walls and hungrily staring at rosy skin. We already live in dystopian world, we don't need on top of that dystopian science fiction shoved down our throat.
Strangely though, the movie starts good and interesting, but quickly delves into torpor and theatrical limited scenes. They didn't even bother to make a good ending for it. The number of times that I saw characters drinking bottled beer and taking long shots showers is inconceivable in a 1:50h movie!
The only things interesting were the yellow-lit gadget on the back of his neck and "him" being suctioned out in that plastic "quality" bag.

Yes, it's predictable. Yes, it's nothing we have never seen before. But, it's definitely not a bad movie. It's pretty good, to be honest.
If you ever loved someone and had to let go, if you could have another chance, start over... and if that was taken away from you... how would you feel?
I had to stop the movie and get my feelings in order, 'cos I was honestly split. It's not everyday that a movie makes me feel/think like this one.
Ronan is a force to be reckoned with. Second time I watched, knowing what was going on, I cried with her at some points. Mescal was also a great choice: eye candy (VERY), and did the job very well, if not, as well as Ronan.
Definitely recommend this one.

I thought I'd be the target audience; I like futuristic/Sci-Fi settings, I don't mind movies with a slow build and I'm not GED-carrying Trumper so I understand that the climate issue is real - BUT, in the end I found the movie to move at such a slow pace that hurt it.
The plot was interesting, the setting good and the acting acceptable - it just wasn't very engaging or stimulating. I found myself checking my watch several times as it played.
Sometimes good moves are not good movies to watch.
This might well be one of those.

I really enjoyed this! It's based on a book, which I also read, and it didn't disappoint. Even for a big fan of the book, which I am, this adaptation didn't disappoint. Psychological thrillers are one of my favorite genres, less so sci-fi. But this is the type of sci-fi I enjoy. I was hooked on the story from the opening scene. I'm sure it won't be long before climate change takes us to places that only gifted storytellers like Iain Reid can currently imagine. I really can't say enough about this movie, and I hope that all the viewers also read the book because it's so very enjoyable as well!!

Definitely one of my wait what happend movies. I kind of knew from the begining what was going on since the clues were there; but it still manages to bring some surprise. Plus, despite being a thinker movie, its not too complicated nor too boring.
Can't complain about the cast chemistry, loved the set, and definitely loved how the story was focused - not too much segway or overexplaining.
Btw, watched it cause I wanna watch a Saoirse Ronan movie and boy does she never disappoint. Loved it!
Why a "wait what"? Cause even though you get what's going on, you still question it and rethink what happend - something I look forward to in movies. It's one of those movies that doesn't leave your mind the moment its done.
RECOMMENDED for people seeking a SOFT SCIFY movie.

This is a good movie. It touches on an important part of human relationships with a unique view. But many people really hated it, including critics. Does everyone want to watch superhero crap now? This is a really emotional story where two people try to find their lost love inside their loved ones. But people liked Barbie more than this?? Critics liked Barbie more than this?? How did they even become critics?
I know it's not perfect. It could've been improved. But with the acting of Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal, some great music, good enough cinematography, and a very unique story, this had to be one of the best films of this year. But I guess this will be underrated. I enjoyed it very much. I hope the ratings get better. It shouldn't have had less than 7 on IMDB.

Anyone think this reminds them of a poor relation of "Interstellar"? "Hen" (Saoirse Ronan) lives on her remote family farm with husband "Junior" (Paul Mescal). You get the impression it's a pretty mundane existence and maybe not have been the strongest of relationships when a stranger in what looks like an old De Lorean arrives. It turns out that "Terrance" (Aaron Pierre) has come from the supra-governmental agency that's in charge of populating space - yep, the planet is on it's last legs - and that "Junior" has been selected to go live upstairs leaving is wife behind. No chance says "Junior", no choice says "Terrance" but there is some silver lining for "Hen". They will make her a carbon copy of her husband to "keep her company" whilst he is away. To that end, their visitor must remain for a few weeks to gather information on every intimate detail of their lives together so that "Junior 2" can be as authentic as possible. Now we don't actually know this, but it's safe to assume that somewhere in the ensuing proceedings, there is a body swap otherwise the rather dreary and drawn out denouement would make even less sense that it actually does. Is this suppose to be a crit on the nature of human relationships, or of the human psyche? If you went to bed at night and awoke to an identical partner that had been swapped in the night, would you even know? That's the problem. It's a complete non-story that limbers towards it's conclusion without really engaging on any level. That said, man-of-the-moment Mescal does turn in an emotional performance at times, but Ronan is really rather wasted here and the thinly developed characterisation of "Terrance" just further consigns this to the doldrums of what looks a short story laggardly dragged out for all but two hours. It's a slow and rather listless film for the most part and contains nothing new. Disappointing.
