I saw a clip of Channing Tatum shadow boxing the pole on the train and thought that this looked promising. Unfortunately it turned out to be a very boring predictable movie with really poor dialogue and overplayed characters. Some good actors in this movie, but nothing about them or the movie itself made me want to buy in to it. It was just hard work. Essentially it was a series of average (to be honest pretty boring) fight scenes linked with a predictable, boring storyline that contained a forced and unbelievable love thread. Another example of the trailer being better than the movie.

You have seen it all before, only much better than this. The fights are uninspired and not very good, it seem like they tried to make it realistic, but there is very limited entertainment in that. And scenes are prolonged with walking around and talking (mumbling) about money this and money that. Watch Van Damme in Lionheart instead and don't waste your time with this one

The worst fighting-related movie I have ever seen. The story setup is really sloppy with sudden introductions of characters with whom the viewer is expected to feel connected with in the following scenes. Apart from that the acting is absolutely terrible but this is largely due to the screenwriter's effort as well. Then you get the cheesy Channing Tatumn love story which feels really forced in upon the whole script and makes you feel like your watching 'Step Up' instead of a movie that is about illegal fights. The fights themselves aren't exactly to be called spectacular, not even because the technical choreographies are bad but because the camerawork is so blurry that most of the time you don't even see what happens. Complete waste of your time if you like fighting (related movies).

I love movies that have any type of martial arts in it... i make it a point to try and watch them. This one had great potential... great story-line... a great plot... But OMG, the cast just showed how desperate these people are that hire them... Channum couldn't act to save his life... he was all over the place... so was 'Zulay'... there emotions, the body language and what they were saying were doing 3 very different things... Good actors get the lines and either do them justice or if it is poorly written they rearrange and make it so that it 'fits'... I was so disappointed... my 8 year old who has never acted in his life could do a better job!... it was hideous and cringing! Just because the actors are 'buff' and good looking DOESN'T necessarily mean they can ACT! Most movies like these are predictable but it is the good acting and great lines that makes the movie exciting to watch, this did none of that! If I could i would give it minus infinity.

Good acting is hardly the film's strength though Terrence Howard does a pretty good job. The fight scenes while action packed were not well filmed. The angles and clarity of the shots left me wanting. The story itself was somewhat predictable yet enjoyable. More could have been done with the story of Shawn's father and the Evan conflict leading up to the climax fight. The love story was kind of nice even if it too was predictable. Zulaiya's grandmother was hilarious from her first appearance. There were a lot of racial stereotypes in the portrayal of each of the ethnic groups. Sadly these characterizations were accurate by and large.

I saw the previews for this when I went to go see Fast and Furious and I thought to myself "Well, this has to be interesting. Channing Tatum doing something other than dancing." so I went to see it yesterday I had rather high expectations but they were quickly let down. I liked the idea of a poor bum getting a once in a lifetime chance to earn money at something that he is good at. Little did I realize that only one scene in the entire movie shows Shawn MacArthur (Channing Tatum) working out. How is it that a guy who can hardly afford a hotel room keep himself in tip-top shape? That was my biggest problem with it, other than that the mass amounts of stuttering was entirely not needed. In almost every scene there was somebody stuttering. Those were my two biggest cons with the movie. Apart from that I thought the movie was really good; The fights were very well done, it was funny when needed.
