This movie is an essay on misandry; the hatred of men and boys. Nothing original, feels like a cheap read on Judith Butler and a portrait of what Hollywood calls "family" in a "Mexican" upper class farm house setting. You will find the usual suspects from the mexican big screen and a few tokens. You can find in this movie the staple language found in American cinema and academic critical studies courses that have made its way onto the mainstream. The attempt to make this movie a portrait a what a modern family looks like fails in every turn. The director grabs American stereotypes and try to mold them in to a Mexican context with little success.

Directed by Colombian Rodrigo García, son of legend Gabriel García Márquez. Just as Iñarritu's BARDO previously proved, certain Creators dealing with the new Mexican reality, do take their time to thoroughly construct their polished scripts with realistic diagnoses of the "transformed" Mexico, hence avoid coming up with political pamphlets designed to perpetuate stereotypes (Estrada), or Policía de Guanajuato disguised Propaganda to earn prizes in Europe (Escalante). And guess what, this can be done without even being based in Mexico! Furthermore, If you lost contact with your Family members due to COVID's New World Order dynamics, this film is quite an antidote. It made me wonder what drama have I been missing out, with the moments Mr. García and the Film's wonderful cast invite us to be part of. You will feel good as this fictional Mexican Familia resists, of what you may also be resisting: Gentrification's unstoppable bulldozer. Mr. Giménez Cacho leads masterfully the mostly Female Familia, with a story on synchronicity with the current political arena, where Women are demanding to the existing Patriarchy: "you solita puedo". And speaking of diagnoses, the best one is expressed, wait for it, late in the film, by the quiet US Citizen Husband. Experience Familia, and let's hope other Directors follow this new trend/genre, that could be called: "Gentrification's side effects".
