I absolutely loved this film! I saw it at the Sundance Film Festival. The opening shots of Carmen show you she has something about her from the start. I have to admit that I worried about her acting skills after the first few scenes. But, it didn't take long and I was completely into it. For this directors first film I'd have to say pure brilliance. From performances to writing, directing and editing, it was very well done. I loved the story, the twists and the characters. The way he used flashes of digital video to create a voyeristic feel was great. If you like movies with a twist you will love this. If you are a film distributor - pick this one up because I'm dying to see it again! I'll even buy the DVD.

Pretentious. Absurd. Not entertaining. Those are three reasons not to like this movie.
It's like poor quality speakers that go "thump, thump". Sure it catches your attention, but five minutes later you realize that you've got a headache. It plays like a student film (subjective camera angles, accelerated rhythm, etc.) but has no sense of pacing whatsoever, and poor dialog to boot.
This film doesn't keep you guessing at all, and you don't identify for even a minute with ANY of the characters. I think they should have watched Memento a few more times to see how it's done.

This was a really strange movie. In a way you could predict the story, because of all the clues. But still I was sitting here amazed when the movie ended.
The love story between Carmen and Kit is very beautiful, its a pity it only became a love story because of the evil plot that Barnaby set up for them. And I like to call it evil. As a woman I would be terrified to be fooled like that. To have my entire life broad casted in a movie, filmed behind my back.
Even though the plot line frightens me a bit I love the way Natalia Verbeke and Gael García Bernal uses body language and facial moves to show their feelings. They both fit very well for their characters.
Altogether this was a very good movie and I have to say that I really enjoyed watching it.

WORST. MOVIE. EVER. Stay away from it!
Any decent writer would be ashamed of such a work. Way to manipulate the script to give the impression of a well crafted story when it's nothing but a pile of crap.
The performances couldn't have been worse, the characters are just unbelievable (unbelievable, in its most primitive meaning).
No wonder why you havent seen a lot of publicity for this movie.

Well, fellows...
LITTLE SPOILER MIGHT BE AHEAD This is just a sentimental twist to "The Game". Blurry characters, foreseeable turns, not good acting at all (except maybe D'Arcy faking he's hurt by the kisses from Natalia to Gael "F*** I'm good!). Not even the two geeks are funny. The parallelism with the Mérimée is just so sad and weak. Natalia Verbeke is gorgeous as always (incredible flamenco dancing), Gael pretty good, but they can do so much better. A black spot on their careers.
I won't watch it a second time.

Truly the stand out at Sundance in 2003. This movie will carry that "I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you" feeling all the way to the bank - just like "Sixth Sense". I got the chance to talk to Parkhill about the movie at another screening and he stated that the film was just "picked up" - just 2 days after it's premiere. He also said we will see this in theaters within the year. This film could not come out soon enough. He's got big shoes to fill now that he hit the jackpot coming out of the gate. I'm interested to see what he develops next.

I saw Dot the I yesterday and I really can´t see what´s got into the sundance film festival for supporting these weird piece of film, I don´t know if I am being too much demanding but all that hard work on the script in order to try and surprise me with those twists was too much.
(Spoiler) The acting is limited, Gael Garcia feels wrong with that UK accent and that goes too to the female part and just when I was giving his crown to that english young actor, he becomes into the madman cliche of the movie and ruined it. (end of spoiler)
The efforts on direction, which are good, well, that style of combining the footage in film and the one extracted from a camcorder, wasn´t really good, you will learn near the end of the film that is justified but again, didn´t feel neat when you see it.
The budget for this film is low, you can easily guess that, especially in that Indie Film Festival scene when you realize that you are seeing another indie movie that couldn´t make thinks work with its own money, because seriously, that festival looked fake.
All right, I am having a hard time with this film, the effort, none the less, is good. I even wish if that kind of young "impetu" exist in my own country, where, with a few exceptions like Amores perros and La ley de Herodes, we are having a really bad time with esporadic and ridiculous films.
At the end you will see this script is no good, the twists are not too well execute, some are even laughable, the acting is plain right, if you can see these movies with an incredible good eyes you will see some glints of artistry but if you are a hard ass cinema lover like me avoid it at all cost.

I saw this film last night at a screening, and let me say what an AWESOME film! I'm not going to explain any of it, because it's all the element of surprise! Brilliant! Gael Garcia Bernal is such an amazing actor, brilliant man! His accent alone made me melt, "me tinks, he'll win an Oscar soon" Anyhow see this film its wonderful! James D'arcy, you scally-wag! :)
