This movie was so cute and stayed true to the original. I watched it with my 13 and 16 year old teenage boy and girl and they enjoyed it as well.
Sadly I believe a lot of the negative comments are due to the hue of the cast being changed, not the content itself. I highly suggest watching it for yourself. I laughed and enjoyed comparing certain scenes although most of the changes made didn't impact the script whatsoever. I was even impressed with Nicole's Richie's comedic acting, something she's definitely not know for. Loved the cameo of our original Rose. We would absolutely rewatch; the producers and actors did a great job updating the story and honoring the original.

All the cards are setup and it's glaringly obvious how and when they'll fall.
After five minutes you'd forget the babysitter is dead.
The whole story of a family of children and a 17 year old child managing to get an executive job to support her siblings is so implausible, even as a movie, there's nothing about this that could ever happen, no matter what.
I've not seen the '91 Chritina Applegate movie but seems a generation of Hollywood writers don't have the capability or inspiration to be creative, and find it easier to throw a white movie into the tumble dryer and pull out a black rewrite.
