One of the most random storylines I've ever come across, with even more randomness thrown in throughout. There is literally no explanation for anything that happens in this movie: 1. Grandparents are murdered but we don't know how or why. 2. Girl inherits island (we only know this from the synopsis). 3. Weird locals apparently don't like her and loads of people seem to be watching her. 4. There's a woman who doesn't talk. 5. Sheriff isn't very nice to her for no reason. 6. Weird guy gives her the welcome tour then is just weird. 7. Sleazy guy tries to be nice but comes across as creepy, gets bumped off for no reason. 8. Girl gets random boxes of creepy stuff left for her with no meaning. 9. Weird guy appears in house with a hammer to kill her even though it turns out he was obsessed with her. 10. The film ends with her security bell ringing, her loading up a gun then cutting to her covered in blood with a cup of tea....who/what did she kill, why were they after her, what did she take in her tea? All in all, a terrible film, terrible plot line and terrible acting!

Literally what was that even? I wasted my time on this stupid boring movie that made no sense. If I could give it a 0, I would.

This movie is nothing like the description. Not one bit. Acting isn't the best and the story was boring. Waste of time.

A young woman (Kat Alexandra, aka Elle Alexander) inherits a small island in the Thousand Islands region of northern New York after her grandparents were found murdered there three years earlier. It becomes quite clear that some people don't want her there. Will she survive? Kristjan Sokoli plays a yokel while Cliff Yates is on hand as the sheriff. "Devil's Island" (2021) is a slow-burn mystery Indie with a bit o' suspense and horrific thrills, but it's not a gory horror movie. It's basically a micro-budget rendering of "The Wicker Man" (1973/2006) switched to the Saint Lawrence River in upstate New York with a very different conclusion. The curvy, petite protagonist is attractive and the paradisal locations are enjoyable with the movie playing almost like a travelogue, but viewers who need an explosion every 10 minutes or buckets of blood will likely find it mundane and tedious. The flick respects the viewer's intelligence to connect the dots based on the glaring clues without spelling it out. It's simple as pie, but I don't want to spoil it for viewers. The theme revolves around overcoming fear, using your intelligence & available resources in response to grave challenges and standing your ground. Just listen to the lyrics of the song as the credits roll. If you like movies like "The Wicker Man" and "The Shuttered Room" (1967) and don't mind the quirky approach of low-budget Indies, give it a try. There's nothing wrong with the technical filmmaking; the acting, lighting, sound, cinematography, music and stunts/effects are all fine. The film is short-and-sweet at 1 hour, 12 minutes, and was shot at Thousand Islands, New York, in the Saint Lawrence River that emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario. GRADE: B-/C+

You have the cast, crew, equipment and know how to make a decent film in a beautiful location, yet can't be bothered to formulate a plot. Movie's need plots. They're kind of essential to keeping your audience's attention. I turned this movie off after 11 minutes. This is what I saw in that time. There's no information given about where we are or how we got there. You see the cameraman in the reflection of a door within the first scene. There's no direction given to actors and if there is it's to act in a completely unbelievable fashion. Once we got to the party montage scene and the main character's idea of letting loose is to flick the light switch on and off a bunch of times, I was done. The ONLY thing this film did right, or attempted to do right, was cinematography. This is beautifully shot but also poorly executed in film technique. I've spent more time writing this review than I did watching this movie and I feel fine about that. Save yourself the trouble and watch literally anything else.

To many questions left unanswered leads to an incoherent script that made no sense. It felt like they ran out money and just had to end it. The only bright spot is the lead actress who pretty good. But she can't salvage a poorly written script. Don't waste your time. Find something else to watch - anything else.

Did the writers just simply run out of ideas or forget the entire beginning in the last 15 minutes of the movie? So who are the masked people that killed Mort??? All of that mystery building up and we're left with Michael had a shrine? That's it!?!?!? Terrible.

This movie is MUCH better than it's rating. The user reviews lead me to believe that it's not much a movie for men. Far too frightening. For males, there is nothing more terrifying than a strong female non-victim as a protagonist. This is a brief film. Simple plot. It's your traditional "inherit a home in a mysteriously hostile community" film. It's a light film. Suspenseful, with hints of creepiness (not really gory), but nothing a seasoned horror viewer hasn't seen variations of many times over. The acting is solid. Kat Alexandra is a great lead and wholly convincing. Her character is why I'd recommend it for pre-teens getting into horror. It has potential to spark discussion and wondering what you'd do under the same circumstances. If you want to get radical - it could be seen as a metaphor for being female and navigating a hostile, misogynistic society. Nicely filmed. Interesting setting. The script does not hold your hand or give you complete explanations. Just like real life.

People seem to be into extremes. Movies are a "must watch" or "don't waste your time". This was an okay movie. It won't win an academy award but it's great for killing a couple of hours on a rainy day.

The movie looks like a draft of a movie. It's lacking all the parts where you'd normally go " Ahh ok !" So much is left unsaid that you have to make your own story with the 2 or 3 details they do tell us. The girl has a certain charm and is not a bad actress. That can't be said for all the other actors in this "movie"
