This is an excellent film. In many ways. The plot, the acting, the effects - everything is fine. What is different about this film is it has many levels. Every one watching this film reaches his owns. That doesn't mean it can't be watched for pure amusement - not at all. But like many other great films it can be entertaining and at the same time to make you ask yourself questions.
I saw Russian audio version and managed to catch ambiguities and references comprehensible to people not only speaking Russian well but close to the Russian way of thinking.
I would recommend this film along with the first part, but please - leave out any attempts to compare it to any others - this film is of a different kind.

I have to admit to liking neither science fiction nor vampire/horror films, and therefore not predisposed to the basic genre of this trilogy. I got the most pleasure out of the scenes of Moscow, and local color. It helps if you've stayed in the Cosmos Hotel, as many of the scenes are filmed there. The plot is easier to follow than Nightwatch thanks to the existence of more established relationships. Think of it as MTV without music (well, there is SOME). Little opportunity for emotional or intellectual connection if that's what draws you to a story. However, the cosmic disaster, grounded in very real physical details is thrilling in its own way.

I watched both movies (Nightwatch & Daywatch). I really liked them both. My big problem was the translation. Now this is not the fault of the film at all, maybe even not the translators, but the English dialogue is somewhat campy... almost like badly translated Godzilla movies. It makes it hard to enjoy the awesome movies that they are. Even despite this glaring flaw for American audiences, I highly recommend this series because it simply kicks ass. Okay, I've just been informed that clear, to the point comments are not allowed, somehow you must bloviate for at leat ten lines of text, so there for I'm trying to eat up ten lines of text in order to get the relevant lines of text accepted... lets try submitting now...

The first movie of this potential trilogy, "Night Watch", was a brilliant metaphor about eternal battle between good and evil with a good splash of thrills. As it happens so often, the sequel " Day Watch" lacks the originality and pure inspiration of its predecessor. It is still a very exciting and enjoyable flick, but just the flick, nevertheless. Special effects, lots of explosions, car chases, and less developed characters put the movie more in the line of the Hollywood summer fare. Pumps you with adrenaline and seduces your senses, but in the end lives you empty and gets forgotten in a flesh. And that's a pity because there was so much more than the obvious in the air.

I watched both movies and i feel my time was totally wasted.
There is no plot whatsoever -- both movies drift aimlessly in pointlessness.
Countless characters are introduced, subplots and back-stories are attempted, but, all-in-all, the movie ends up being a big, big mess. At the beginning, there is a promise of an impending doom, but alas you will be just as wise in the end. Anyway, at least, we now know, how the "Lord of the Rings" would be, if Tolkien was *just* trying to look cool.
Skip this one, if you tend to use your brain while watching. There is plenty of good SciFi/fantasy movies out there.

Day Watch is without a doubt the best movie I have ever seen. The way it pulls you into the plot with so much action, anxious energy and story lines, it just blows you away. I am a huge fan of all horror/sci-fi movies and for the first time ever, I actually was wanting the movie to hurry up so I could find out how it ended. And I was not disappointed at all. Like in Night Watch, the plot laid out by the lead villain, Zavulon, leads all the action without even knowing it until it's too late... oops, too late. In a normal Horror or Action movie, which this is more like, there are three or four scenes that really get you. In Day Watch, there is like seven or eight. I cannot get over how good this movie is. Watch it, rent it, buy it, whatever. Just make sure it does not die due to the fact it comes out of Russia. This is how I feel, it's better than anything that has come out of Hollywood yet.

I'm not a fan of the "Dozor" saga (in fact, I didn't even read the book). But what I can say is that this movie clearly brings back the hope for the Russian commercial cinema. The movie is very entertaining, with vivid characters, several funniest jokes, and '06 CGI-graphics (Mr.Bekmambetov is former music videos director turned movie-maker). I hope foreign audiences will like the movie as much as I did. The only (minor) disappointment is the sound: I wish the movie had more (rear) surround effects. Still, 'Dnevnoy dozor' is the best beginning for the year 2006 and the best New Year present for all of us. Thanks, Mr. Bekmambetov! (And to hell with the book!)

Went to see this with high expectations after seeing all the reviews.
Bit gutted! This had the promise of being amazing- opening scenes (with the gloom, etc.) were brilliant... but it went downhill fast.
It was far more juvenile and simple than Nightwatch- subtitles having their own character was silly, car driving up the side of building and then flying in through a specific window for a 'cool character' to make an entrance, guy kisses poster and the guy in the poster 'animates' and wipes his face like 'yuk'.
Arrghh! Silly indulgent juvenile stuff hampered what could have been brilliant.
Worth a watch, but certainly Nightwatch was better.

Night Watch :)- This film is excellent and of an unimaginable creativity ...but it's not very clear with certain part...example: in the Dark?!...why there mosquitoes all the time??? :(
And ''The Dark'', what it is exactly?? because when the little boy ask '' is this good or bad? ''
Anton
answers him '' it is another thing ''..O.K! then it's what???!!
When the little boy falls on the ground, his father (Anton) tries to save him and detaches his vest, but his chest is blue! Then he touches it but its arm takes the same color and becomes very hard!
So the owl. .olga?.., I believe! tells him '' gives him blood, for to distract''! But I do not think that it spoke about the boy!!
then of which or what? About the dark??
Damn!!! This movie It so strange!! ...I LOVE it :o!... I admit it! ;)
