Kurt's character is the same as Gabriel Cash from Tango & Cash. He's a wisecracking LA cop with long hair. They shoulda just kept the same character name although this movie isn't the masterpiece that Tango & Cash is

Shelton's "Dark Blue" is a very no holds barred look at L.A. early nineties at the hilt of the Rodney King beating and the thick corroded line of corruption that is slowly leaking its way out of LAPD. Kurt Russell is at his best acting as a horrible man. Russell plays Eldon Perry, a detective (with quite an open window as far as people's rights are concerned) who also has issues with race and his upbringing. The movie tests Russell's characters ability to be able to see through the destruction and chaos he is a part of and come clean and be able to be on the outside looking in rather than the one on the inside doing all the dirty work. It is not a bad movie but maybe I over-hyped myself for this one a little too much.... 7 out of 10 stars will do.

Kurt Russell gives one of the strongest performances of his lengthy career - if not the strongest. Brendan Gleeson as Kurt's corrupt boss is compellingly evil. Ving Rhames is great as well, but we really don't see enough of him in this movie. The acting of Scott Speedman and Michael Michele is also top notch. Lolita Davidovitch as Russell's troubled wife gives a commanding performance. The script was well-written, the plot feasible/plausible, and the acting all around was excellent. A good film about troubling issues on any police force. Although "Dark Blue" is an action movie, I didn't find the violence to be over the top. It fit the story line. This film is definitely worth renting or buying!

Something was missing from this film, and I am not sure what it was. The back setting of the emminent Rodney King roits was excellent, as well as the corruption of the police department officials and the cops themselves. The characterization of the corrupt cops doing whatever it takes to get the job done is very interesting. The movie portrayed scenes of tension excellently, but over all, the movie just did not quite gel together. Going from excellent to slightly boring form scene to scene leaves me with the impression that it could have been great.

Having Kurt Russell in it, I was pretty sure it would be a good movie. For some reason I tend to enjoy movies with Kurt in them. But I am here to review the movie so here I go. First off, this is not as good as I thought it would be. But it is not terrible either. This is just one of those normal movies that you forget quickly once you have seen it. But don't misunderstand me, this is after all an enjoyable movie, it is just not good enough. With that said, Kurt delivers as always, giving a steady performance in this cop drama. So if you like Kurt Russell, watch this movie. If you don't like Kurt Russell you probably won't watch it no matter what I say about it. So to sum it all up, an ok movie, nothing more, nothing less. I rate this movie 5/10

Kurt is way better than this as an actor. This film looks like they simply took the first take and ran with it. No reshoots no real serious direction which is hard to believe since Ron Shelton has directed some really good films. So not really sure what happened but this great cast was way off on this one which is to bad it could have been really good, maybe great.

Kurt Russell has had an interesting career. Starting his career as a young actor for Disney, he has evolved into an all around movie star and fine actor. He will mostly be remembered in his career for the films he did with John Carpenter. Here, in 'Dark Blue', he plays a sadistic L.A. cop who believes the rules must be broken in order to apprehend suspects (or kill them for what he believes will be the good of society). Bearing a striking resemblance to 2001's 'Training Day', this film is written by David Ayer, who also wrote that film. 'Dark Blue' has a fascinating look at police ethics (or the lack of them) and 'L.A. Confidential', 'Training Day', and 'Dark Blue' are a good triple bill if you have the time on your hands.

This was a decent movie, and was (as usual) a great job done by Kurt Russell. Russell plays a L.A. Detective who sometimes blurs the lines between right and wrong. The two problems I had with the film are that (1) It was the exact plot and storyline of "The Shield" television series (and not done nearly as well), and (2) It really was a bit too preachy on matters of racism for my tastes. I think the film oversimplified some of the common stereotypes that people have and should have stuck to entertaining, and not preaching. Overall, it was a very watchable film, with some very good sequences. Five stars out of Ten.

Yes that's right, I went to see a film with Kurt Russell in, and get this it's not bad.
For a start we are talking Elroy, plus we've latched this onto
Rodney King. Not quite "Internal Affairs", but certinly one of the better films this summer. The 1991 mobile phones add an additional comic touch.
