Brilliant opening credits. Terrific soundtrack. Stylish production design. The point of the movie? Go figure.

Spike must have made this trash while in an inpatient PSYCH ward! It left me as confused as a nursing baby in a TOPLESS bar!! No plot; No sense; HORRIBLE soundtrack! And grade F+ acting!! The only high point was seeing Felicia "Snoop" Pearson from "The Wire" playing a "straight" hooker, she failed at it miserably!!

Ganja & Hess 1973, Blood Couple, Black Vampire 1988? They all have the same synopsis and credit Bill Gunn as writer. Horrible, boring and sloppy as a vampire movie. Totally disjointed as a love story. Nothing redeemable about this one. Reminds me of the 1960's movies with weak plot, camera placement 101 and an annoying soundtrack that sounds out of place most of the time and obligatory * scenes. No spoiler alerts. That happens about 15 minutes in.

Literally the worst, most pointless movie I've ever seen. I felt bad as a Black woman giving this a terrible rating during Black history month (we're watching a Black film a night), but my anger and disgust at having my time wasted cleared that right up, and I woke up feeling completely justified. And when I say woke up, I really mean it. It was so terrible we couldn't even make it through it, and had to watch the last 30 minutes the following night. We quickly watched "How High", a cinematic masterpiece in comparison, to wash the pain away for having watched this drek. The only thing this movie made me think about is how precious life is. And my thoughts about that had nothing to do with the content of the film. Just strictly about the 2 hours I wasted in my hopefully long and fruitful life. Could I have been writing, and finished my own screenplay? Meditating, and discovered the meaning of life? Maybe I could have used that time to have sex and created a baby, a new life. So many things I could have done instead of watch this movie. I now know how precious time is. And for that, Spike, I thank you.

Spike Lee's brilliant horror deconstruction. The director skillfully mixes horror cinematography with some of his antitheses, as in the use of an extremely realistic photography, and constantly lit up scenes. The drama of Dr. Green's life teaches us that violence is inherent to man, necessary for his survival, but ultimately harmful and capable of killing ourselves. The themes dear to the director, such as the criticism of American society and of racism towards African Americans that is overturned in an wealthy African American character, who is both victim and executioner of his own destiny, remain topical. Da Sweet Blood of Jesus it is certainly not a masterpiece, but a decidedly enjoyable film and that together with "Only Lovers Left Alive" by Jim Jarmusch offers a new, modern and contemporary vision of the cinematographically harassed figure of "vampire".

Anyone that dislikes this movie is probably most comfortable seeing brown people in pictures with drugs, violence, anger, disadvantage, oppression... This movie is more than abnormal. It's black people like the world rarely gets to see them put on screen. Thanks Spike Lee. You did it again. Of course.
