This movie gets a hard pass from me. We couldn't finish it. The singing voices are fine but the movie is just plain nonsense. Like a minute in I'm thinking this is the typical sappy hallmark type cheap TV movie just maybe a bit cheaper with even lower level acting then suddenly it turns into a musical. It wasn't well directed or choreographed with real oddball scenes like seriously who sings there in that situation? Even for a musical it came off unreal and stupid. It is a very predictable story, the star is only in it for a very small amount of time, the singing was OK but the songs overall are quite forgettable, the story is paint by numbers, the acting is very weak, it just seems like amateur hour. Made it half way through but know exactly what was going to happen and just couldn't take any more. Bad TV movie.

I wanted to like this movie but aspects are plain ridiculous like singing at the gravesite, the orange faces, and the leads having no chemistry and being so mismatched - oh my....... Good Soldier films has a long way to go before they are a professional outfit..... I guess we all have to start somewhere and at least here there are unique and interesting ideas and are adding a fresh enthusiastic perspective. ......

It's a good movie to just zone out on. It won't make you think. It's not gonna preach at you. It's just a simple story. It contains all of the Hallmark/Lifetime-esque stereotypes that you would expect: simple small town boy that could have been more, but his heart kept him at home and is thus loved by the community; city girl with ambitions that gets stuck in town with no one else to turn to but that's already in an unhealthy relationship; no new vehicles in small town, only mint-condition muscle cars (other than country boy's own worn-out vehicle); some forced acting; some pointless dialogue; military death; unneeded side plots; country boy tries to pick fight to protect city girl's honor; country boy and city girl end up together back in small town after show of love by entire community; the script is corny at best... What do you expect? Sure... there's some questionable casting decisions, but what do expect of a low budget picture? However, the surprising musical aspect is pretty good. Granted, it *painfully* obvious at times that they are lip-syncing, the music (for the most part) as well as the singing is pretty good. Did all of fit? Not really, but what do you expect. I never go into these kind of movies with great expectations because everyone knows the level most of them are.
Bottom line - It's a good movie to fill time. It won't make you think about about life's deep, pondering questions. It won't leave you heart-broken for the characters/play with your emotions. It's not going to preach at you about some moral/controversial topic. It's just a simple movie to unwind and relax to. Go in with no to low expectations and you'll like it. I found it entertaining enough to watch it the whole way through.

One of the characters broke into song in the first few minutes... I knew I was in trouble after that. My mom had the remote so I had to endure what felt like four hours of ongoing singing. The singing itself was mediocre at best and sometimes occurred at inappropriate times. Right after someone was done, another one breaks out into song. I predicted over half the plot... this movie had more clichés than any movie I've ever seen. I would rather watch the Emoji Movie on repeat than watch this again. The characters barely even formed any connections and there was no real development. The wife of the brother is displayed as a main character yet is barely even in the movie. Acting is incredibly awkward as well...

Musical is not one of my favorite genre but i have seen a lot of movies through the years. This was good but not the best the storyline was the weakest with bad writing for characters such as Jana Kramer(Katherine Bishop)she had the least development out of all from beginning to end we know nothing about her character except she's a stay at home mom waiting for her husband (Cody Bishop)to return.
The Best thing I like was the performance by the characters interacting showing their emotion in singing and the soundtrack is great. I also find myself re watching this movie like other musical because they always entertain me the most when in a bad mood. This musical was less annoying and simple compare to Disney teen bop musical.
Some of the acting wasn't great the weakest was Nancy but good singer. For me the strongest acting was Munro(Charlie Bishop) how he was dealing with giving up his dreams for family, school, his brother, love and lost. I'm not expecting strong acting in a musical but does it make them a bad actor? No. It's just a lame excuse to hate it because it's a musical doesn't make it bad. It's like saying John Travolta, Johnny Depp,Zac Efron and Huge Jackman is a bad actor because they in a musical knowingly you not going find strong acting here because all you see is singing.
Musical will always be the most hated genre why? It's not my favorite genre but i don't hate it but find it enjoyable, amusing and make me feel happy. Overall good singing by actors but wish they keep the storyline simple.

Based on the reviews I wasn't sure what to expect...but this movie gave me all the feels.
It's cute, funny and real. Just watch it and have tissues nearby.

This was an okay film, if you want to see Jana Kramer at her prime, I personally suggest "Approaching Midnight," or "Heart of the Country" ... I just couldn't understand the musical numbers in this movie, they seemed unrealistic and took you out of the story process, but the characters and locations where actually pretty nice and good looking. The composition of the cinematography is pretty good as well, but I was hoping to see more of the Texas film location where it takes place.

Don't be misled by the somewhat hokey plot; this movie is a classic. It has everything you could ask for in a great film: drama, emotion, love, danger, evil, depth, conflict, tragedy and subtle nuances that are easily missed. It's is not a typical Hallmark-type movie at all, so don't overlook this stunning film.

Yes, this movie is totally cheesy, but have you ever tasted really delicious, mouth-watering cheese? Every single cheesy bite of this movie is pure heaven. The musical numbers are stuck in, the plot is predictable, but sometimes a movie just works and this one works flawlessly; it's better than "The Holiday," "Dirty Dancing," or "Titanic" all rolled together; it makes "Downton Abbey" look thin, and "Notting Hill" look anemic. But warning; this movie is super-addictive! Watch at your own risk.

Okay, when I first saw this summary I thought maybe I could relate. Being a city girl, it seemed cute that a boy would go after her. However, the summary and the actual story line don't seem to match up. This is about a struggling singer trying to get her big break and about a guy who has experienced a lot in his life. And the main girl on the cover is barely even in the movie, I was so confused about that.
Anyway, after realizing that this is a musical I kinda chuckled a lot. It just didn't give me that musical vibe from the first 5 minutes then bam, the brother is breaking into song.
As for the acting, it could definitely be better, but the voices are killer. I actually bought some songs as a result of watching the movie. If these actors were as good at acting as they are singing, we'd have a gold mind right here.
I actually recommended it to a friend, if you like cheesy movies then you'll def love this.
