I adore Tyler Labine, so when I saw this movie on Amazon Prime, I decided to watch it without knowing much of anything about it. It was really surprising! As the story unfolds, things eventually go sideways in a way that I did not see coming.

Brilliant brilliant briliant!! amazing storyline, great special effects funny as you like, slightly gory, great acting, all round terrific movie!! a couple madly in love travel to the families country lakeside cottage, all ready for a marriage proposal until the wayward brother shows up!! then it starts going badly wrong!! take cabin fever, mix it with tucker n dale , add a little american werewolf in london, then sprinkle with eden lake! this is THE hidden gem!! do not miss!!!

If you know Macbeth, you can have a lot of fun seeing how the basic plot is lifted from that play. The ambitious woman drives her compliant mate to pursue the unthinkable, and having done so, both are haunted by the horror of their deeds. Mix in a little contemporary hilarity for the times, but you can't deny it's the Scottish play. It would have been cool to have read a few reviews that touched on this delightful parallel. It's like seeing 10 Things I Hate about You and finding a classic plot. I had forgotten the name of the movie, and was searching "movies based on Macbeth" to no avail. I know there was the word cottage or cabin, but beyond that, couldn't think of a single actor's name or anything. Thanks IMDb for documenting everything!

Cammie and Todd are a couple who is trying to find peace and quiet and they go at a cabin in the middle of the woods to have a few days of relaxation. All good until Todd's brother along with his girlfriend Masha arrives at the chalet. They don't realize that are bothering them and after the girls are gone for a little hike Cammie tells Todd to convince his brother to leave them alone. They fight and Todd accidentally kills Salinger and covers his murder. After Masha and Cammie return he tells her what he has just done and Cammie encourages him to get rid of Masha also. They are dumping the part of their bodies after they cut them in the lake and are surprised when they arrive back that a party in the middle of progress is at their house and comprehend that Salinger invite them to come but he wasn't sure if he really made the announcement. Now the two must behave normal and not to give suspicious to the guest and make them believe that they don't know where the missing couple is. Although this should be easy the situation complicates when Todd has some hallucinations with his dead brother and attracts attention with his unusual behavior. One guest specifically becomes involved and want to find out the truth but end up having the same faith as his friends. When police arrives the couple must play innocent and soon Todd's parent are coming to the cottage but for how long will they manage to hide the reality for those around them? I catalog this movie to be a black comedy although there are only a few scenes where you laugh for some seconds and in rest it's a little bit silly but still is a good way to spend you Sunday evening.

A horror comedy that has a man taking his girlfriend up to the cottage to propose. He gets a surprise visit from his brother and his girlfriend. Trying to get him to leave the two brothers end up fighting leaving one of the brothers with an axe in his neck. The fiancé helps cover up the crime so she can still get married. Before the brother is killed he invites a whole mess of people up for a party which of course adds to festivities. Anyone who gets suspicious ends up dead as well. A pretty good dark humorous flick where anything can happen and it usually does. It is amazing how far some people will go to hide things. Sometimes it felt like American Psycho meets Three's Company. You will be laughing and getting shocked all at the same time. Well worth the watch. Check it out

This movie was extremely boring and slow. It was not really funny or scary either. This movie doesn't deserve any more than 4/10 in my opinion. The only time I laughed was at the very end of the film, like the last 30 seconds. I thought this might be funny like Dale and Tucker but I was disappointed. I can't say I recommend this film at all. This film failed in all aspects. Save your money for another rental unless you are really bored, REALLY BORED!

As always you can plan as much as you want to (be it the romantic kind or the other kind), there is a big possibility things won't play as thought they did. This is true to every character in this story. Even if you know what the inciting incident is, it might still surprise you, because of the impact it has and the power it has on screen. Malin Ackerman has a lot of fun playing the lead female role, though her character is a bit of plain overall. But the humor is as dark as it gets and there is a lot of coincidences to swallow too. If you can live with all those things, you will have a comedy that does not take any prisoners and is decent enough to entertain

When I stumbled upon "Cottage Country" I had not heard about the movie, so I didn't know what to expect from it. I took a look at the movie's cover and must say that I was instantly interested in the movie. Then I read the synopsis and saw that Tyler Labine was starring in the movie, so my interest was further peaked. So naturally I decided to give "Cottage Country" a go. The cast in "Cottage Country" was quite good, and they really managed to get together a great ensemble of acting performers, and there was a great chemistry between the various performers. It was really nice to see Tyler Labine again in a comedy much in the same genre as "Tucker & Dale vs Evil". Dan Petronijevic added a great comedy element to the movie with his character. Lucy Punch was really nicely cast for the very odd character Masha. And of course it was also nice to have an actor like Kenneth Welsh show up in the movie. "Cottage Country" had a very interesting character gallery to bring the story to life on the screen. And the cast hired to portray the various roles and characters were doing good jobs with their assigned characters. And the brotherly rivalry between Tood and Salinger was just great and resulted in some hilarious scenes. The dialogue in the movie was well-written and very suitable for the characters. And I really liked the Marsha character's dialogue, because she was just so extreme and so out there that it was hard not to be amused constantly. There are some really good laughs to be had from watching "Cottage Country", and if you like comedies with a dark and twisted sense of humor then you will most definitely enjoy and want to watch this movie. The special effects and make-up effects were actually quite good and they served the movie quite well. Now, this isn't a special effects galore like many Hollywood movies ten Writer Jeremy Boxen had managed to put together a very enjoyable story that had some great laughs, some memorable moments, and very likable characters. And director Peter Wellington was doing a great job of telling the story in a great transition from script to screen. This was indeed a very dark and twisted comedy, and it was without a doubt quite well worth taking the time and effort to sit down to watch it, and I am genuinely happy that I did, because I was thoroughly entertained by the movie.

Cammie is pleased to find an engagement ring when going through her boyfriend Todd's things before a special trip. He gets delayed by his boss putting in a last minute requirement that ruins his Friday. They leave late for their trip. Todd and Cammie get to the cottage that his parents own. They think they will be alone, but Todd's brother Salinger shows up with Masha. Cammie insists that Todd gets Salinger to leave. While Cammie and Masha are out collecting mushrooms, Salinger will not be convinced with words. So he and Todd get into a fight that ends with Todd killing Salinger. Cammie and Todd have a rather earnest discussion. She's 34 and does not want to wait for Todd to get out of jail or wait to find another man suitable to father her children. So she convinces him to kill Masha, which does not go too smoothly. Todd forgets to tell Cammie about Salinger's plans to invite some people over. When Cammie and Todd get back from his formal proposal to Cammie on the island that she insisted on, the 'some people' have arrived, and turns out to be a full scale party. Some of the party goers are very interested in where Salinger is. -----Scores----- Cinematography: 10/10 Really good in both daylight and in dark scenes. Beautiful scenery. Sound: 8/10 OK. Acting: 3/10 Malin Akerman and Tyler Labine I did not believe for a second. Lucy Punch was just irritating. Dan Petronijevic I could have done without, completely. Screenplay: 3/10 Was this supposed to be funny? Fail. Was this supposed to be a a reasonable crime procedural? Not even close. Was it an action film? Well, no. There is perhaps one fight in the film. The plus 3 is for the well deserved ending.
