Cop Out is more than yet another cop buddy film. They manage to walk the line so that the film is goofy enough to be funny but not so goofy that you don't care what the characters do or what the outcome is. To me it seemed very much like Beverly Hills Cop, perhaps because the music was done by "The Heat is On" composer Harold Faltermeyer. Comedic duos sometimes work and sometimes they don't. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in the "Rush Hour" series often stepped on each other's toes, for example. I'm pleased to say that Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan have amazing chemistry together. Bruce has the humility to play the straight man while Tracy rants, and occasionally they switch roles. It's beautiful and I laughed out loud several times. But wait, there's more! They also add in Seann William Scott, the guy from the American Pie series, in a role that should have been bigger but added just the right touch of madness. Best of all, the film is far from formulaic. I've got pretty good spidey sense but I had no idea what was going to happen next. So Cop Out was surprisingly original and entertaining. That being sad, the plot with the daughter's wedding didn't really interest me, the badguys were sort of generic and the film fell short of being a classic, although you should definitely hang around during the credits to see the classic moment there. So I'll give Cop Out a solid but not for-the-ages 8 out of 10.

This movie was alright, but it failed to become something spectacular and memorable. First of all, I am going to comment on the cast and the acting. As for Bruce Willis, well his acting is great, as usual, and he was good for this role. Now, for me, what really carried this movie was the character that Seann William Scott played, it was hilarious, even though it was just a supporting role. He was so cool in this role and I loved every moment of it. Now, on to Tracy Morgan, well I have to say that I found him amazingly annoying in this role, and I just wanted to reach in there and .... oh well, never the less, I think a guy like Chris Rock or Chris Tucker might have been better for this particular role. Moving on to the story. Well, the plot and story was good, and constantly moving, so you weren't really bored at any point in the movie. And there were lots of hilarious scenes and moments as well. And there were also just enough twists and turns in the story to make it interesting. The music in this movie sort of made me feel like I was watching a re-make of the old Eddie Murphy movies "Beverly Hills Cop". At times it was like the music was a remix or a homage to the music from those movies. That was kind of a bit too much for me. I hadn't actually heard anything about this movie, prior to picking it up for the first time. But of course, by that way I had no expectations to the movie, which I think worked well in favor of the movie. The movie does provide good entertainment, but there isn't much in it that you haven't already seen in other movies. And for me, personally, this is not the type of movie that I would watch a second time around.

The movie "Cop Out" was a great hint and I missed it. The movie was indeed a "Cop Out"! In no way, shape or form should this movie have been released in the condition it was. It was nothing more than the kind of crap you would get from "The Worst Of Saturday Night Live". Kevin Smith directed this??? Who did he lose a bet with? The trailer gave me the impression that the teaming up of Willis, Cullen and Morgan would be brilliant. I can't believe how wrong I was. Willis being the straight man never worked for me. Morgan was nothing more than what you got from him on SNL. Cullen was by far the best part of the movie but he was in it for such a short time, savoring his sharp wit was only a lost hope. He really would have been the one to make the trio of Willis, Morgan and Cullen a great edgy, comic team. As it goes, this movie was totally predictable, stupid, without appeal or attachment and definitely a total waste of time and money for movie fans. Maybe thats why this movie was released as it was - creative powers saw an opportunity to make a buck without regard to the fans. Maybe? The only reasons I give this movie a 1 is because of the appearances of Sean Cullen and the cute Michelle Trachtenberg. Yep, 1 of 10 is a stretch but the movie deserves some gratitude. AVOID THIS MOVIE!!

Smith has yet again gone out of his way to make this movie truly awful. Even for the 80's cop movie "homage" this is trying to be, it really is disappointing. The dialogue is slow, unfunny, and just flat out dumb most of the time. Smith seems to have put little to no effort into doing anything original with the buddy cop movie and it really shows. If i could un-watch this movie I certainly would. This was a huge disappointment and waste of time! Tracy Morgan plays the "dumb" guy terribly. Well, he actually plays it too well and it becomes very annoying very quickly. Bruce Willis is of course playing the same role he has played in almost all of his movies. The straight stern tough guy. It is nothing new, nothing original, and certainly nothing fun to watch.

Awesome movie to watch. Hilarious to the core! Easy and light movie with good, cool acting from Bruce Willis, Tracy Morgan and Seann W. Scott! I have not seen any of Tracy Morgan's roles before, but after this I am a fan. Bruce Willis brings in the usual tough cop feel but in a light and easy-to-digest role. The part where the cops entire a house and the owner lady comes in to grab the guns from the thief is awesome! The entire theater was down with laughter. Overall the direction was good and the things fell into place nicely in sequence. If you would like to see a comedy and enjoy, this is it. We were all choking with laughter by the end. Even at the very end there is a comical scene thrown in! Must watch movie!

I don't know what everyone else is on, but this movie was one of the best comedies I've seen in years. It's a HOMage to 80s buddy cop movies. But this actually improves upon them, imo. It didn't have that serious section that those did. This was wall to wall laughs. It wasn't just me. Everyone in my theater was laughing beginning to end. The cast was sooooo perfect. He chose really funny people to fill out his cast all the way down to a pretty small role for Adam Brody who I didn't realize was hilarious until I saw him in 'Thank You for Smoking' where he was just great. I didn't like Tracy Morgan for a long time. I don't know maybe I got used to him. But he's seemed okay on "30 Rock". He's hilarious in this. But the funniest of the funny is Seann William Scott. You should see it just for his role. Susie Essman, Guillermo Diaz, the 11 year old kid, everyone really makes it work. In the beginning Willis looked a little bored, he works as often as anyone so maybe that should be expected, but eventually he got with it and then it was all smooth sailing. I've seen some bad reviews and I don't know why. Maybe you have to be a movie fan, or Gen X or something to get all the references. And there is a doozy that references a cult favorite that I truly and loudly LOL'd at. I'm sure I missed some jokes because I was laughing at other ones. But I'll catch it when I watch this one again. And I know this movie is going to be super rewatchable. Even the songs they used were perfect. I would only not recommend this to people who have a problem with bad language. But why would they even be considering it anyway?

Painful to watch. Absurd story line. Dull action. Slow moving train wreck. Those are the words I am using to describe Bruce Willis' and Tracy Morgan's new movie "Cop Out." Five being the number of times I laughed in the almost two-hour long tragedy. Although, I think it was intended to be a comedy. The story begins with Jimmy (Willis) and Paul (Morgan) interrogating a suspect in a drug case. It also happens to be their nine-year anniversary of being partners on the NYPD. Laugh No. 1: the interrogation scenes were partially funny because Paul, while physically and verbally abusing his suspect, was quoting cop movies he had seen. The scene does take a clever jab at a Willis movie. The film quickly moves into the typical 1980s buddy cop movie. I think that the writers simply Netflixed the entire buddy cop genre one weekend and wrote notes on what they thought was funny. Robb and Mark Cullen wrote the screenplay and Kevin Smith of "Clerks" fame directed. Jimmy and Paul go on an assignment and make a few mistakes that results in losing their badges for 30 days. Who takes their badges away? It is the stereotypical angry police captain that has had enough of their antics. Sorry, seen it before, guys. Jimmy soon finds himself in a situation where he needs $48,000 and is without a job. Oh no, how will Jimmy ever find a way get the money? It turns out that Jimmy has a very valuable baseball card and when he goes to sell the card, it's stolen by Dave (Seann William Scott). The card ends up in the hands of a ruthless Mexican gang leader who houses baseball memorabilia worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in a $25,000 home in the ghetto. During this train wreck, I couldn't find a time where I really cared about any of the characters; Willis seemed to be phoning most of his lines into the movie. Morgan was being, well, Tracy Morgan. That was actually a good thing. He plays the sensitive dumb wit so well that it's fun to watch him on "30 Rock." But, when I can watch him be a goof ball for free on Thursday nights, why would I pay $10 on Friday to watch him to play the same character? The rest of the story is about Jimmy trying to get his baseball card back from the Mexican gang who is using Jimmy and Paul to retrieve a stolen Mercedes. Dave comes back into the story with laugh No. 2 where they have a juvenile joke fest while figuring out if Paul's wife is cheating on him. Laugh No. 3 comes soon after that with a little physical pain to an 11-year-old boy (I don't advocate violence upon children, but I will laugh at it when it is done right). The story moves slowly into finding an angry Mexican woman. I assume the casting agent hired her because she is pretty and she could scream/ curse in Spanish for the remaining 45 minutes of the film. Laugh No. 4 and the last one (Sorry, there was no laugh No. 5. I was giving the movie a handicap out of pity), was when the credits were rolling. It takes place in a morgue and as far as morbid pranks are concerned it was funny. Again the joke was by Scott, which makes me ask - why didn't he get his name on the movie poster? He did most of the work. There you have it, a 1980s cop comedy that would have been funny 25 years ago. Maybe it was paying homage to the cop comedies we grew up on but then again maybe this is simply a lost cause. Pay attention to the musical score and you'll hear the 1980s Casio Synthesizer used in movies like "Fletch" and "Beverly Hills Cop." It brought me back to a simpler time when these jokes were fresh and new. Should you see this movie? Please don't. Save your $10, watch "30 Rock" and rent "Die Hard" and you'll see Willis and Morgan in their best elements.

I have to echo another reviewer who stated, "I have rarely seen such a stark disconnect between some scathing reviews and actual audience reaction." I just saw this film because I really like Tracey Morgan, Bruce Willis and SWS and figured that for a $5 matinée it would be diverting. It was far, far more-easily one of the most entertaining movies I have seen this year. A great throwback to the 80's cop buddy comedies with great characters, humor and action. I wish Kevin Smith would do more projects like this...he really proved here that he is as gifted as a director as he is as a writer/ director (Mallrats excepted of course...) and it was really cool to see his style and flourishes on a project that did not take place in his Jersey Universe. If ever there was a flick that made me want to say, "screw the critics" this is it. Go see it and have a great time. I hope word-of-mouth builds this into a box office hit, because they left things open for a sequel and I would love to see these characters again

Bruce Willis on his downward spiral. Totally predictable, by the numbers cop-buddy movie. When his rare baseball card gets stolen, Willis and Tracey plan to find the miscreants. After all, Willis is going to use the money to pay for his daughter's wedding. Bald headed Bruce sleepwalks through another movie, arguably his worst since "Surrogate"-remember that? Tracey Morgan shows some talent and a good sense of humor, but it is totally squandered in this film. This one is supposed to echo the cop-buddy films of the 80s, movies like "48hrs." and "Beverley Hills Cop".while those movies were fun and inventive for their time, they seem badly dated today. Same with this.It is so utterly predictable that you can watch it without the sound and know what exactly is going to happen next. Its really a shame. I kinda like Willis, but if he continues to do roles like this, he may soon find himself doing commercials for wine coolers again real soon. At least the movie lives up to its title -it cops out in every department, especially laughs. If you can wait 7 weeks, you'll be able to rent it at your local video store. Not really worth your time or your money.A laughless "comedy" that is more pathetic than funny. The joke is on you if you pay money to see it!
