Why does the film not score higher? Goes on average scores. You all love the film but rate the film seven or eight bringing the score down a lot! Your fault. The youngish writer and director decided to write this script, which was good enough to lure so many top Hollywood macho actors. The mistake he made was the movie script was very good, the quotes and Stallone and Rays acting; but the issue was the movie lacked quail or action and should have been longer. The director then has to take responsibility. I love all the actors that were cast. But there should have been a touch more to get the film overall to do better. The characters were so believable and we understood the background and motives of each character but the ending was anti climax.

It's not just that EVERYBODY is in this movie, it's that everybody acts the hell out of it. The story is simple, the pacing is perfect and Stallone somehow steals the show. Sure, there's nothing fancy here, but there's nothing wrong with a solid story either. Especially with a little Bruce Springsteen in the background.

Well, it has almost everyone that could really act in the 90s in it. That is a plus. And Stallone actually does a great job of being a washed up no-nothing out of shape small town sheriff. He rarely takes roles that actually require him to act so it's always a shock when you see films and realize that, no, Sly is in fact really a stellar actor. This is one of those movies. It's also one of those movies that stays with you as a classic. Not as well known as Chinatown, but the kind of movie where, after you forget about it, you get the chance to re-watch it and realize once more how great it actually was.

(72%) One of Stallone's best performances featured in this star-studded modern-day classic police movie. Sly gives a great subtle performance playing a heavily stepped on and taken for granted sheriff, and as he's alongside a great solid cast this makes what could have been a quite generic and forgettable movie into something that will quite honestly stand the test of time. Despite this being very much a cop movie in all actuality it has more in common with a well crafted western, with different shades of grey surrounding each character, and with its plot based on redemption and people doing the right thing when it is needed most. A must watch for crime movie fans.

Great movie, great cast and a stellar performance from Stallone. He's a softly spoken and overweight sherif that gets manipulated by the local police. Amazing to see Stallone, supported by the likes of Keitel, DeNiro, Peter Berg and Robert Patrick, delivers the performance of his career. Works every time I watch it

Lots of people have told me over the years how good this movie is and I'm glad I've finally watched it. I must say, it's probably Sly's best performance. His costars were all great as well and this story just burns through the screen. Absolutely loved it. I'm sure I'll be watching this again in the distant future.

What a cast. Good script too. And Stallone's best performance since Rocky, you actually get surprised when you understand he really can act, I found his character here to be tottaly real and belivable. Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel and Ray Liotta, they always work, these guys are doing their thing, playing parts they were born to play. Who I found also surprisingly good, was Robert Patrick, probably because you expect him to be the emotionless T-1000, here his on the contrary, a very emotional/angry guy. This film boils with a masculine energy. The plot also seems belivable. It's a drama with some action. It's a very good film actually, I think.

There's really no sport in making fun of a film like this. But when Stallone outacts DeNiro, you know you have classic garbage. I'm not a cop, I don't have any friends or relatives who are cops, but I really can't stand it when these rich clowns trash them like this. Question: You are a cop. 2 guys driving recklessly sideswipe your car, and then when you try to pull them over, one points his Club at you and it looks like a machine gun. Is the cop wrong for blowing them away? If you think he is, you will love this movie. If you are sane, and think a cop has the right to defend himself, don't waste your time watching this.
