Needless to say that I hadn't heard about this 2018 French action comedy titled "Commando Ninja", prior to stumbling upon it here in 2023 and opting to sit down and watch it.
The storyline in "Commando Ninja" was non-existing. There was no red thread throughout the narrative, and things made no sense. And the fact that there was nothing entertaining to be found anywhere, as the movie progressed, just made it a prolonged thing to suffer through. Writer and director Benjamin Combes was doing nothing, really, aside from just blatantly copying popular 1980s action movies. And it grew insanely boring very quickly, especially because the movie virtually had no storyline to make it watchable.
Of course I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list, nor that I had been missing out on anything here. The acting performances in "Commando Ninja" were just about as terrible as the movie itself, so at least they went hand in hand.
Even running at a mere 68 minutes, this movie was a swing and a miss, and a terrible choice for entertainment. This is definitely not a movie that I would recommend you to sit down and watch, nor waste your time, money or effort on.
Whether this was supposed to be an homage to the 1980s action movies or a spoof thereof, I don't know. Nor do I really care, because "Commando Ninja" was a swing and a miss of epic proportions.
My rating of "Commando Ninja" lands on a one out of ten stars.

Yes, that's right this movie is called Commando Ninja. If that sounds good to you then you won't be disappointed. This is mostly a homage to Commando and any number of those Cannon Films Ninja flicks. This also has elements of pretty much every 80's action movie ever made. Growing up in the 80's myself, I thought this was hilarious. This delivers the goods with an overload of testosterone with lots of muscles, guns, babes, extreme violence and of course lots of ninjas. The tone of this is very cheesy (in a good way) and very tongue in cheek. Commando Ninja is on 11 at all times and sometimes borders into the absurd. I did enjoy this a bit and was a crowdfunded film, so I want to thank all the donors to that getting this made. The lead for this is in legitimate action hero shape and is very credible for the part. If you are a fan of 80's action movies, you need to check out Commando Ninja.

Fun, silly low-budget splatterfest. All tongue-in-cheek as it spoofs vintage action, sci-fi and horror flicks. But it ends abruptly and without important closure on the plot (to the extent that one exists). Were they planning on a sequel, or did they just run out of money? For a cheapie like this, they may have been forced to wrap when the camera guy's mom called him home for supper. Even so, if they ever do shoot Commando Ninja 2, I'll be there to watch where these folks go with it.

This is all over the place in terms of pacing and references (down to certain specific iconic shots) BUT it's made with love and full of gore and action. The plot is weak and there's no ending really, BUT when you have so much 80's cheese, you can't go wrong. Much better than Kung Fury!

I've seen Commando, Predator, Rambo, Blood Sport and a lot of the other movies that this is parodying and this just shows why a lot of these crowd funded movies shouldn't come out. I think the only one I really liked was Kung Fury which is 1000x better than this.
With this you get some crappy attempts at humor from some racist jokes. Which ok fine, one or two great. Have some variety but a good comedian (or script) should be able to have some variety.
The special effects save this from a solid 1/10 , the gore is well done, they had some fun with the shooting scenes and the swords. There's some diversity in the scenes but that doesn't save it from being awful.
The story isn't the best, the fight scene with the red ninja just seemed rushed or sloppy. The training montage could have been cut out. There isn't much to say about this one and of course they had to use a stupid power glove.which did not come out until 1989. Which this movie is not based on. But remember! It's a time traveling one that can fix the plot holes! The bad guys ok, the last fighting scene that seems heavily inspired by Mad Max and the ending were awful to the point any other movie studio would say please, write something else or this isn't coming out. Either way this suggestion came from IMDB to watch and I'm kind of regretting that I did. I love so bad they are good movies but when they are in on it, it ruins the experience.
