I liked this documentary but the commentary from Chris Gethard was utterly obnoxious and distracting with his over the top storytelling and constant use of f bombs, it was driving me up a wall. I do agree with others that it is kind of an unusual way in which they have portrayed the park. It seems like a total nostalgic throwback about how cool the park was and how crazy it was that a bunch of kids ran it and how things were out of control but less about the actual tragic incidences at the park. One mother spoke about losing her son and how Gene is an awful person but that was really the extent of that. The documentary otherwise was about the staff experience. Still enjoyed it but not necessarily what I expected.

From its opening in 1978 until its closure in 1996 two years before it became mountain creek water park, Action Park was the biggest outdoor park in Northwest Jersey and was more dangerous than Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. People nicknamed it Traction Park as well as Class Action Park due to the fatal incidents at this major venue. This documentary complies videos and interviews with actors and staff members who grew up with the park and telling their horror stories. At one point, Trump wanted to invest in the park back when he was working for the organization but avoided it due to the way the park was handled. Highly recommended if you like theme parks.

I'm sorry, but what should be a documentary about the dangers of not following rules etc is a "nostalgic " look back. I played outside, went home when street lights came on, and as a teen, hung at malls. Never would have considered going to Action Park back then. Why? Because it was obviously a place you went to if you wanted to commit suicide by risking your life in an unsafe environment. Thank GOD Actuon Parl is gone and the filmmakers should have done a documentary that didn't glorify that crappy park

Literally looks like it was produced by middle school kids for a class project. The footage is really old and crappy and there are animations that are so amateurish that the middle schoolers would have gotten an F. The narrative is repetitive and this is an all around fail.

Being a novice on Action Park I throughly enjoyed the history of the park & loved the nostalgic feel from the employees stories. I personally didn't feel the title was misleading & it dove into the "horrors" of the park in an upbeat sort of way. What I didn't like & almost made me stop watching was the obnoxious actors that were being interviewed, especially Chris Gethard. He's not funny & why so many F bombs. He was like 8 yo when he went and somehow that makes him a overly cocky expert of the park. Stick to the real players please. Without out Chris & Allison Becker the documentary would have been more realistic. And despite what Chris said, us 80's kids didn't all end up in therapy because we lived in free & somewhat dangerous times.

"True" libertarianism is heartless. Unchecked, free-market capitalism is heartless. Eugene Mulvihill is heartless. This movie is heartless. You're better off reading the Wikipedia page on this undeniably fascinating piece of American folklore than watching this confused, irresponsible, tonal disaster.

I cannot believe HBO would distribute this pile of garbage. First of all, who is Chris Gethard and why is he even in this? He's almost a constant presence and it's deeply, deeply annoying. He isn't funny, his memories aren't interesting, and he contributes literally nothing of value. On top of that, the fact that half the runtime of this miserable documentary is padded with half-assed animations speaks volumes. The filmmakers couldn't even be bothered to source enough actual footage of the subject of their documentary! What a joke. As someone else noted, they also clearly have no grasp of the three act structure, because the pacing and storytelling are a nightmare. Absolutely atrocious film.

Listen, I'm from New Jersey. I spent summers at Action Park. People got hurt on the Alpine Slide and wave pool, but this was a weak rendition of what the book (Andy Mulvahill) told. Kudos to his press corp and lawyers for blocking all access to his family - who ran the park. This filled in some of the blanks, but not enough. Andy actually had more mafia and drinking spoilers, and - even as a risk - told a more credible story. TL;dr cheap no name comedians told a crap job of the same stuff we already knew, accompanied by cartoons and repeated - out of order - footage (bungee jump was at the end, not arbitrarily in 1985).
