Christmas on Holly Lane tells a story of three friends growing uptogether. Sarah, Riley, and Cat bond one Christmas. Riley a child of two alcholics and Kat who lost her parents and was taken in by cousins. Kat in paticular never experience a family until that day she bonded with her friends.

The three best friends Sarah Lancaster as Sarah. Karen Holness as Riley and Gina Holden as Cat, all do a tremendous acting job, Their friendship is the heart of this movie. Best friends in High School and the friendship is still strong 25 years later as adults.
I have to say Sarah's husband, Ethan played by Giles Panton, is the most selfish individual in any Christmas movie, He has an affair and walks out on his wife and 13ish daughter, Then, the home they were living in had been built by Sarah's Grandfather so Sarah was the third generation to live in the home, at some undisclosed point they must have mortgaged it because Sarah was paying the mortgage. Now he wants 1/2 the value of the house so she must either buy him out or sell the house and split the proceeds. He has no qualms about tossing his soon to be ex wife and daughter out of their home. And by the way his girlfriend is pregnant.
I liked the movie very much.
My advice - watch this movie.

This was really better than I ever thought it was going to be. Not your typical Christmas storyline but still a bit predictable. I found this refreshing! It was such a nice change of pace. It shows us that we all have problems and the importance of having friends and family to share them with and allowing each other to help each other. I enjoyed the different pace of this Christmas movie and glad they took a chance by not following the pack! Three friends from childhood who lift each other up and truly believe in each other. It has more real life pitfalls than your typical Christmas movie does but I think that's why I really enjoyed it. Just a nice change of pace!

Whether it is easy to not take 'Christmas on Holly Lane' and similar films seriously is dependent on whether the good things outweigh the bad and vice. Dependent on how many flaws there are and how big they are. And dependent on how well the film executed its good things. In some cases it is easy to not take it too seriously. In other cases it is very distracting when there are so many annoyances and done to an incompetent level.
'Christmas on Holly Lane' is not one of those films. It does have things wrong with it, then again when has a Hallmark, UPTV or Lifetime festive film (or similar) been perfect, and the flaws are a few of the usual ones. 'Christmas on Holly Lane' does achieve its aims though at being undemanding light-hearted entertainment that has charm and heart, not quite a jolly good time but not a folly, and one of the best recent festive film viewings.
Not every event and every character felt necessary, two of the boyfriend characters are quite sketchy and seemed thrown in for plot device reasons when the conflicts of Cat and Sarah were strong and identifiable enough already without them. They were fairly blandly played too.
Like a lot of this type of film, there are moments in the dialogue that is likely to make one groan (did with me) and had a forced feel. The ending felt too over-sentimental and tacked on.
However, regardless of any questions of the authenticity of the location 'Christmas on Holly Lane' looks good. Especially the scenery. The soundtrack is lovely to listen to and quite infectious, a good fit in placement. Of the recent Christmas film viewings from the likes of Hallmark, Lifetime etc. 'Christmas on Holly Lane' is one of the best written, namely because Sarah summing up the flaws of her husband and Riley's talk with Cat's daughter are quite poignant scenes that have degrees of truth.
Although the story is fairly typical and is not perfect, it is charming and heart-warming with conversations and situations that may not be innovative but are more real than most films in my recent festive films quest. The characters have more depth than most with the three leads particularly coming over like real people in situations that are relevant and easy to relate with for many. All three female leads are strong, especially Sarah Lancaster as the most interesting and well developed character of the three. Jaime M. Callica also does quite well, though the male cast are not as consistent due to their characters not being as compelling.
In summary, nice film if not a great one. 7/10

People often "rag" on Christmas movies as being nonsense and silly. But sometimes you need to really pay attention and digest the messages. Sure this is a Christmas movie, but it also is about the intertwining friendships of three women. The house was and again becomes their safe haven, and now their daughters learn that as well. Look for the messages, you will see them. I hope they consider making a sequel with the daughters carrying on the tradition. Or maybe adding an Inn near the house to spread holiday love to others.

I'm glad I stuck with this one, as it seemed a bit dreary and full of unlikeable characters to start with. However, after not too long, it did show itself to be an interesting story, that was very different to most that are made for the festive season. The characters also blossomed in to nice people too.
It has a veritable feast of handsome fellas and although Giles Panton doesn't play such a nice guy in this one, he still made it to my list of daily crushes along with Tristan Shire, who definitely should have had more screen time. The character of Jake was cute too.
I'm not sure that the story was that Christmassy, it could probably be picked up and put in to spring or summer just as easily, but it has a nice vibe about it that shows how friends can be all the family you need sometimes. If you have a family too, that's a great bonus.
I will say that Taylor, the bratty child plays her part too well and I was just waiting for someone to actually slap her! And I think that Riley and Jake may be lying about going to school in the same year?
I quite like it when they do the "One year later" thing as it seems to fill in a lot of what can't be shown due to time.
Give it a go.
