Carrot Top is one of those actors who is the epitome of Andy Warhol's assertion that "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes." Clearly, Mr. Top's claim to fame was very, very short-lived and the world's fascination of him expired long ago--probably long before this movie debuted! I think that this film's appearance on the infamous "IMDB Bottom 100" is due to this disaffection with the red-headed 'comic'. In other words, while the film IS bad, it's not as bad as its rating would suggest--and is more a reflection of the world being tired of Mr. Top than anything else. After all, a little bit of his shtick sure goes a long way!
The film is very formulaic and the plot is basically the same as Weird Al's film "UHF"--except that "UHF" is very funny and "Chairman of the Board" is tired and occasionally tedious film. Now that I think about it, the plot is a lot like Steve Martin's "The Jerk"--which was also very, very funny and "Chairman of the Board" is a dull pile of bat droppings.
Mr. Top is an out of work guy who makes crazy and generally useless inventions (wow--that's a radical departure from his stage routine). Despite this, he IS able to make it big because he meets up with a nice old guy (Jack Warden--who deserved better than this) who unknown to Herr Top is the CEO of a multi-million dollar company. When Warden dies, he leaves the company to the Top-Meister. Warden's nephew, Larry Miller (who does not deserve better than this) wants the company himself and decides to work behind Topper's back to ruin the company's stock so he can take over the company. Sadly for Miller, La Zanahoria's crazy inventions work out great--making the company more successful than ever before...but Miller has an evil plan....
As I said above, the basic plot idea, while recycled, is workable. The problem is all the fart jokes, crotch jokes and the fact you see so much of the Carrot that the film is ponderous and rarely charming. The bottom line is that if the leading man had been a bit actor instead of THE film it might have worked...providing the film also had writers who were not chimps. All in all, pretty dopey but watchable...and not nearly as horrible as the really, really bad films of William Grefe, Al Adamson, Ed Wood, Larry Buchanan, Arch Hall, Sr. or Ray Dennis Steckler!! Now these guys really, really, really made bad films--apocalytically bad films!!
By the way, there was one very good thing about the film--seriously. The surfer-inspired music (including a great song from the Ramones) made this a terrific soundtrack--one of the best in recent memory. Really.

I am sorry but I thought this movie was hilarious. Anyone who doesn't like it just doesn't know good movies. The structure was brilliant and the puns were delicicious. It reminded me of another favorite of mine: But I'm a cheerleader. BTW I am also a cheerleader! LOL that's so neat! Well gotta go. I love shopping and other peoples dogs. I really enjoyed this Carrot Top vehicle. Having seen him on TV and his stand up show in Las Vegas, I thought this film was the perfect vehicle for his outrageous behavior and wacky props. I wasn't expecting Lawrence Of Arabia, so for me and my friends, it was a fun, breezy flick with quite a few laughs.

It's not bad if you aren't pretentious. Comedy is supposed to be fun, lighten up.
For some reason, a lot of reviewers took this movie seriously and got seriously offended by silly comedy. Watch this movie for yourself, it's funny. It's just goofy and doesn't make any attempt to give you a sense of realism. It's not that kind of movie.
Carrot top does his usual prop comedy in the context of a story about him trying to sell his wacky inventions. If you are watching the movie with any seriousness you are probably not the right audience for this movie.
The story is pretty worthless, but the entertainment of this film doesn't come from that, it comes from the gags. If you are a fan of comedy you will probably enjoy this film. It's full of joy and it isn't trying to make you think. It's a fun movie for people not concerned about having to wade through an emotional muck of pretentious film-making.
Watch it if you enjoy life.

Is this a bad movie? Don't take my word for it. Consider the following press reports of people who tried to watch this movie:
· While he was watching this movie, the brain of Mr. Harold Faber of Sandusky, Ohio, forcibly ejected itself from his skull at over 200 kph and preceded to squirm across the floor shrieking NOOOO NOOO NOOOO.
· Mrs. Louise Robbins of Enid, Oklahoma, a 69-year-old retired homemaker, committed ritual seppuko with a butter knife while watching this movie.
· Ms. Janine Hosmer of Columbia, South Carolina, gave birth to a severely deformed baby while watching this movie, although she had not been pregnant.
· While watching this movie together, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wells of San Franciso, California, spontaneously exploded with such force that Mr. Wells's left tibia was later found embedded in the wall of a house in Marin County.
There have been many similar incidents.
Of those who did not suffers more serious effects such as those detailed above, at least 75% became incurably, violently, and understandably insane after viewing this movie. Of the remaining 25%, most had already been insane before viewing the movie; the remainder were either blind and/or and deaf or in a persistent vegetative state.
I'm not saying don't rent it, if you want to. I'm just reporting what was in the papers.

The only interesting thing about this movie is that almost everyone who has a speaking role was in an episode of Seinfeld. The plot is that he needs to get the rent money and then they just forget that. He's an inventor who inherits a multi-million dollar manufacturing company and never thinks to make any of his great inventions. Just like in every "comedy", there's the completely useless love story that does nothing but add 20 minutes to an already unbearable movie. This movie is somehow less funny than Carrot Top's stand up comedy which is a miracle. If you want to try to remember all the bit characters from Seinfeld, this could be watchable. If you want to be entertained, run away.

Most people think of this movie as really bad, with no humor content whatsoever. I think different. I think this movie is so funny! Yeah, anything with Carrot Top in it is totally funny! Weird and awesome definitely add to the mix, too! I even like his name - I laugh every time I hear it or even think about it! Yeah, because his hair sure looks like that of a carrot! Even more interesting (not movie related) is that he was born in Cocoa Beach, Florida! Hey, I was born in Cocoa Beach, too! I was born like well over 20 years after him (Carrot Top was born in 1967; I was born in 1987)! I wonder if he was born in the same hospital, however? :-\ Still, a surf bum taking over a big company sure puts a twist on the position "Chairman of the Board" (Chairman = surfer and board = surfboard)! LOL

"Chairman of the Board" is a ridiculously stupid film from the popular comic Carrot Top (also seen on the 1-800-COLLECT commercials). He plays a surfing inventor who comes upon a man who has a flat tire. Top helps him out and a few days later discovers the guy's died and has given his company to the comedian. Even if someone else was in Carrot Top's role, it still would have been bad. The jokes (which are constantly rigged throughout) are terrible and the idea of a romantic "plot twist" should have been discarded. DO NOT WATCH!!!

This movie is stupid. There's no getting around it. But so is Dumb and Dumber. Mind you, Dumb and Dumber is significantly more funny than this. However, I for one love seeing stupid movies (Tail Sting) and laughing with a group of good friends over how bad it is. Call me callous, but see this movie, and you'll find that the only way you can laugh at it is if you laugh at it instead of with it.
