This movie was interesting, but I think the message I was supposed to get was that women have to be so careful with guys not to be murdered instead of fall in love... Though that's true... The character of Margot is completely insane and unlikeable. Half the weird crazy murdery stuff we saw was all straight from her mind or caused by her. I actually started thinking maybe she's the serial killer as the movie continued. I was rooting for Robert hoping she didn't murder HIM. Overall after the crazy climax of the movie, Robert came out looking like a normal guy if not a little nerdy and Margot came out looking like the insane serial killer... In the end her insanity cost Robert his dog, cats, house, car and job... I bet he really wishes he never met Margot with her serial killer obsessed issues.

I wasn't a fan of director Susanna Fogel's work on Booksmart which she wrote, and the Spy Who Dumped Me which she also directed but this film shows impressive progress in her skill-set. To the reviewers that got upset because they thought this film was anti men, the film was not anti men. It showed what the female characters feared, not what was real. It showed how the situation was partly of their own making, from their expectations and prejudices, as well as what the guy brought to it. It didn't judge but it left it open for us to do it. The film was masterfully and tightly directed, lots of detail, subtlety and thought provoking scenes. It avoids black and whiting the complexity of where western society has taken itself in establishing relationships with other humans. The message was pretty bleak but we get insight into why it got that way, and there isn't really any finger pointing and blame attributing, (although it appears to side with the female lead it doesn't let her off the hook at all and the ending leaves it very open) as we do get a reasonably balanced understanding of the failings of all parties. The direction was just really well done, and supported by insightful and nuanced performances from the cast, especially Emilia Jones who goes in the deep end after her stint in the Lock and Key series which she was also good in, & her award winning role in CODA, but this is next level. There are many disturbing social observations in this film and it's great to have a movie made that dares to drift from the cartoon guns and violence fare we normally get. The film doesn't really deliver answers but it certainly identifies some of the problems. I'm still thinking about the implications well after viewing it.

We live in a time where the men of this era are being punished for generations past who set bad trends of sexism, misogyny and discrimination and instead of working together as one to improve , we've devolved into a men vs women in a battle only one side is winning. Whilst stuff is still extremely wrong. It's illogical to hate men or tar all with the same brush just because it's the trendy narrative, between social media and ridiculous films like this, men are painted to be subhuman. Let's be clear, you can meet men in real life and have a great time and be completely safe, at a base level people just want to be loved and to be happy, the majority of other things are rare but so focused on it's created illogical anxiety and a stunted maturity to dating. Girl here was 20 but her and her roommates behaviour seemed to be about 12, very immature for a supposed adult. It's a shame women are being taught that equality is now with the proviso that women are victims to men by default, as shown in this toxic mess of a film. A girl who led a man on, was far too immature even for a teen, gave him sex by choice even after a phone conversation and multiple outs being offered. Despite this deep text conversation they didn't discuss age, jobs etc which felt weird, she also with no provocation send an image of a sexual nature. Yes he should've read the situation but both were quiet, dull unlikeable people with zero chemistry which made the film make even less sense. If it was loves young dream that's one thing, this was two people with no basic chemistry on any level, the man wasn't perfect but his chaotic thoughts were bought on by her leading him on and her immaturity by getting over invested before meeting, there are no take aways here. Women are strong, intelligent and amazing people who want love and happiness. Men are no different, the current bias and narrative is incorrect, with men's mental health at an all time low with suicides at an all time high, labelling men as dangerous for no reason is greatly unfair. Also this girl struggled walking home in the dark at aged 20? She was ridiculously childish, can't say enough bad about this film, if it'd have been made the other way round, it'd never see release! But it's fashionable to hate men.

College student Margot meets and flirts with a guy a few years older than her at her place of work, a cinema. The pair soon start a deep connection, via text, but reality doesn't quite match up to fantasy. There are several meanings of the term cat person, one meaning I wasn't aware of, someone who can't differentiate between real life sex and *. First of all, getting to see this film proved to be something of a challenge, I had to travel over an hour, as it was never shown locally, a real shame, this film is well worth seeing. Very intriguing, suspenseful, and pretty original, I can't think of many films like it. It's a film of two halves, there's comes a point where there's a real switch up, it goes up several gears. Now, most of the reviews I've read follow the same sort of view, poor Margot, terrible and predatory man, I'd just like to give a different view point. First off, Margot made most of the running, bombarding Robert with promises, without even truly knowing him, she got what she thought she wanted out if him, then discarded him when she got bored, maybe it's a generational thing. The film doesn't actually make out that Robert is the guilty party, there's one scene in particularly where Margot realises, she got it wrong. Had something happened to Margot in her past? Was she reliving a past trauma through him? Emilia Jones and Nicholas Braun are both excellent, and credit for his casting, I don't mean this in a derogatory way, but he's not a muscular jock or a male model, he's a good looking guy next door, it made the story all the more believable. That music, fire! So many great tunes, years since I last heard Sophie B. Hawkins. Is it a film about consent, life choices, or using people? You decide. Excellent, 8/10.

This movie was so boring that I literally had to stop to do other things just so TRY to endure how boring it actually was. The story is not only unoriginal but not interesting. The cast is mediocre although with this script it's hard to tell, maybe they're amazing and the script is so bad that it made them seem worse. And the chemistry just isn't there at all. It's just bland on every level that matters. Please don't waste your time with this god awful thing that tries to call itself a movie. This is like a bad tinder date, it just keeps going on and on and you wish it'd end but it just continues until it's unbearable. 2/10 the cast were alright. Everything else wasn't. A complete waste of time.

This film hit all the right notes for me. It had a delicate tightrope to navigate and did it excellently. It had to find a balance between being believable enough that the story would feel relatable to the average audience member, however at the same time have enough going on to make it worthy of a cinematic experience. Not an easy feat to pull off but it achieved it. What I really liked about the film though was that I never felt like I knew what was coming next. The film never really reveals just how far it is willing to go and I loved that about it. It could have gone to the darkest of dark places, or it could've stayed perfectly middle of the road - or anything in between. You just don't know and for that reason you're always on your toes. The hardest thing with a film like this is ending it in the right way. Because when the third act of the film comes around everyone has an idea in the mind of how they want the film to end. The problem is that everyone wants something different and it probably ranges from the entire arc of the spectrum. You're in a lose/lose situation whatever you do. I was fine with the ending they went with, but it wasn't the homerun knocked out of the park that would've made this a top 10 film of 2023 for me. Still, it was a very good movie that I thoroughly enjoyed and one I would highly recommend. 8.5/10.
