As said before this a generous 7 for the old times.
The first 30 minutes is a sequence of situations that portrait a family of depressive losers. Once Woody is satisfied he has convinced you that there is no hope for those characters and you should not expect any happy ending at all then he begins to tell the story.
Which by this point is meaningless since you already know how is it going to end.. And as you would expect it all makes sense thanks to weird turn in the last scenes of the movie.
This is going backwards Mr Allen! All that said I have to mention that the filming and the acting is worth a 10.. Too bad!

Its a typical Woody Allen movie that involves death, money and betrayal but it is also kinda different because this film is one of the few Woody Allen's films that the leading roles are supported by men and not by women. The story about the tale of two brothers with serious financial woes. When a third party, their uncle, proposes to commit a crime is interesting yet slow and at some moments tiresome. It has some good drama and suspense, some involuntary comedy and an unexpected ending. The movie haves a good cast, Ewan McGregor and Collin Farrell both with very good performances and Tom Wilkinson with a good supporting role. This is not the best Woody Allen movie, but definitely fulfills with the expectations.

i'm sorry, i love Colin and Ewan, but this is absolutely shocking. it features the worst accents i've ever heard. Colin is Irish and Ewan is Scottish - why make them work to have English accents, when they plainly aren't related in terms of genes? this is amongst the worst 40 Min's of a movie i've ever seen. I can't lie to you - we walked out. hey, the ending might be spectacular! We were dubious as this is a Woody Allen film, and we're not that keen on him - he does tend to misfire, but the rest of the cast seem to be jobbing actors who try not to make mistakes. The plot line, action, acting and dialogue are truly dreadful - it's one of those films that reminds me of the emperor's new clothes - he's naked remember!

I don't know. I just couldn't get into it. The brothers were weird together, they were too close. It seemed unattached. I don't know. Don't see it

I was expecting better from a woody Allen production with a great ensemble cast but this failed with me for a number of reasons.
The whole rich uncle, gambling, murder plot was too simplistic and poorly executed, many people have said this movie was rushed and Allen could definitely have used another half hour of running time to smooth some edges, develop some "outs", create more rationale behind what was going on.
The one bright spot was Colin Farrell, he did a great London accent and showed his versatility as being able to do more than just "bad boy" roles. But the ending was farcical almost and Allen chose to throw in shots of the boat and the girlfriends in some manic way of tying everything together, very unsatisfactory and I was thinking aloud "that's it?"

I have got to say that I knew very little at all about this film when I went to see it. It wasn't a film I paid money for and I would have felt a bit hard done by if I had have laid out some of my hard earned cash to see it.
The story revolves around the tale of two brothers who need money to fund their (dubious) lifestyle choices. The brothers are played by Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell. It is a long time since Trainspotting and McGregor seems to have totally lost the plot. Wooden doesn't even begin to describe his acting in Cassandra's Dream and unfortunately that seems to be the norm these days. To be honest Farrell isn't that much better and I struggled to see much beyond the two lead performances.

Some people commented that movie is made in rush. I'm not sure in that. Director/writer made it as very straight story telling, minimalistic. There is just plain flow of events, dialogs, even music is very limited (dramatic). Don't know was it intention exactly or it is just result of aging. Maybe Greek tragedies were similar? This approach is indeed not good for nowadays audience, used to watch overdone, over dramatized movies. Or staying by food analogy - people used to eat every sort of food with diverse spices. Spice is exactly what missing in "Cassandra's Dream" . I don't think here of course to missing graphic violence (camera just turned away by murder), but on way of story telling.
Basic story is other problem here - it is too simple and unoriginal. All it means not that movie is bad or boring. Better than average today's fast-food mass production - at least we get exactly what is promised, without artificial tastes.
Watch it for good acting and some moments of brilliancy.

This is wonderfully made, contemporary Greek tragedy (but without the chorus). Throughout the film we are told that a disaster is looming, yet the characters are incapable of escaping their fate. The two brothers are required by Allen to play out their destiny, while the other characters form the vehicle and structure to support the inevitable. Watching the unfolding calamity is absorbing because we do not know in advance exactly how it will happen--only that it will. I suspect American audiences who do not care for this film were expecting some other sort of dramatic convention. Viewers with a strong sense of divine retribution for sin may find this film strangely satisfying.

I had to turn this movie off. I could not stand it. I could not believe me eyes and ears. Being a fan of Both Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor I was shocked to see the amateur acting with the film being clipped together. The high point which made me turn the movie off was the awful accents of Colin and Ewan. I don't understand why they could not cast someone with a natural London accent rather than these two. London is awash with excellent actors who could have made this movie so more bearable to watch. I realize the bankable attraction of Colin and Ewan. It was because of these two I hired this movie. I alway feel ripped off when I see a movie because of the actors and the movie turns out to be rubbish.
