The movie's slow start, even close to midway through had me quite bored, up until about 30 some minutes left of it. Turned out to be a pretty decent movie. I was impressed.

Brothers Jeff (Clayton Jacobson) and Terry (Shane Jacobson) have come up with a plan for the perfect murder; they've meticulously organized a sequence of events so that when the body is discovered, it is seen as obviously a suicide. Jeff has even ensured that they won't leave any DNA evidence behind, making sure that they have protective clothing, gloves and shoe covers. But when the intended victim arrives, nothing goes quite to plan....This kind of deeply dark humour either strikes the viewer as wonderfully imaginative and smart and funny, or as producing a "huh?" kind of reaction; fortunately this viewer at least felt the former rather than the latter. The film was directed by Clayton and produced by both real-life brothers, so in addition to the dark humour the comparisons to the Coen Brothers are bound to come up; but these two put a whole new spin on the idea that things never quite go to plan, no matter how meticulous you've been in trying to foresee every contingent. A few violent scenes, nothing more gory than you might see on television today, but a warning to the squeamish on that front; otherwise, just enjoy!

Well, this was not only a dark 'comedy' but very much a dark horse. Dark comedy-type movies can be really hit and miss. They can be so stupid you cringe and walk out horrified or they can be utterly disconcertingly clever and engrossing. This movie is the latter. I watched the preview but still had no idea what was in store for me. Nothing fit into my little box of clichés throughout and that was not only completely unsettling but utterly necessary to make this the superb piece of moving making that it is. Did I mention thoroughly unsettling? Sure is and yet, it not only nailed the structure and pathology of far too many families, it took you on a brilliant ride through the minds of people, how they justify their actions, how siblings can divert each other, how families seem to never communicate to the point that... well, this kind of dynamic might occur. Exceptional acting! Right down to the 'horsey girl'! A small, brilliant cast, nothing overdone, overstated or overacted. If you can't handle dark comedy with unexpected twists and turns then this may unsettle you but if you can, you're in for a real treat!

What is it with Aussie movies, they seem to do everything right, i cannot remember the time I have watched any that have been bad from Picnic At Ayres Rock to Mel Gibson in Mad Max and now we have Brothers Nest. From the very start the movie draws you in and intrigues the viewer to want more, almost the perfect start to any movie. Then we have the dialogue and comedy which just sparkles and scintillates with every word; I could not stop laughing from lines like "Ice Junkies always use box cutters" to the conversation about wives it is absolutely magic the chemistry between the two main characters whom I believe are actually brothers in real life. The movie proceeds with aplomb and eventually punches the viewer in the guts with a totally horrifying end belying all that came before and gives the viewer a real mind bender to think over. This is Dark Comedy at its finest!!!

This is not a bad film on a shoestring budget. It's a good story and well written, and the acting is not too bad. It is a Thriller, however, in now way can it be called a black comedy. There are small sparks of comedy in a couple of light hearted moments. But nothing that could warrant it being classified as a black comedy.

Although this film is a far cry from the brothers first film together, that doesn't make an iota of difference for this wonderful film that is entertaining and engaging from the get go. I'm not going to bang on about genre and mood and tone and humour - it's all taken care of with watching the film. Some films you wonder why you sat through it, this one you get to the end without realising the time has passed. A real, gritty, funny and touching film.

My shields went up when I saw this film was sponsored by Art Victoria, who specialise in pretentious (as in the king has no clothes) films. I was right. Two murders and a suicide with no redeeming quality, no idea what the point of this was it wasn't entertaining all that can be said is the acting was good, shame about the story.
