A very white male movie. Nerdy jew, attractive. Buff gum part boy, hot. Meet. Argue. Get back together. The bisexual, black, lesbian, trans characters are one dimensional and used for jokes. It is preachy and much of it feels like the 1960s battles that are tired and old. It's almost offensive with gay foursomes, rich fairy and token celeb cameos. They try to impart gay history which goes off the rails with weird trains and "Nightmare" scenes. The family scenes are so predictable. If this were NYC and the character had a lofty museum job, this simply wouldn't happen in 2022. I'd skip this movie as it's not iconic just because it wants to be mainstream.

I am happy that Bros exists. It is very important for the film industry to advance forward in telling stories that we haven't seen before. However, despite being a gay man, this movie just wasn't made for me. Bros is written from a very specific segment of gay life - a very mainstream, White, six-pack-chasing, muscle-worshipping, circuit-partying segment of gay life that I am not a part of. Beyond that, Eichner's taste and conception of what a rom-com should be is just not to my liking. I believe a rom-com should be hopeful and sweet. A kind of movie you would want to watch while going through a breakup to make you believe in love again. Bros is entirely bitter and cynical, even to the very end, where Bobby pledges his eternal love for...three months. It is shocking - to me - that a rom-com can be so bitter and cynical. There's another aspect here that I can't get over. This movie tries to deconstruct the superficiality of gay culture, but it really just ends up upholding it. Throughout the movie, Aaron the Jock Bro love interest is seen as sexy and desirable. Halfway through, Bobby walks in on him shooting up steroids (sorry, "testosterone") to maintain his perfect, Adonis body. Aaron dismisses it as "everyone does it". At this point in the movie, I thought, "Oh boy, here we go. We're about to deconstruct the Jock Bro stereotype that the gay community obsesses over, and how Aaron maintains it, and the cost of it". Nope. It's never mentioned again. In fact, later in the movie, Bobby - so casually! - does steroids and the joke is that it doesn't work for him. Look I don't want to be a buzzkill. As an adult, I know that steroids are stupid and this bit is satire. (Although, I think it's entirely unsuccessful satire). But, what would a terrified, insecure gay 13 year old think about this? I know that if I were 13 I would have thought, "Oh gee, I thought steroids were bad, but hey look the Jock Bro Love Interest that is super desirable that all the boys chase after is doing it and he seems to be ok! I wonder if I should do steroids when I grow up!". I can't underscore how much harm I think this particular plotline does to young gay people.

Wasted 2 hours of my day watching this, it was very disappointing and a waste of time, I love watching LGBTQ+ movies but this one was a mess from the story line to the acting

I will start out by saying this review is bias as I was so embarrassed and disgusted by this crap that I walked out of the picture at the 1hr:20min mark. This is personal to me because I wasted 1:30 min (feature and trailer time) as well as the $11.00 ticket price to watch a very unfunny cliche about get people. Cliches such as dumb Grinder textual conversations; Gay bars where they all are dancing with their shirts off; whiney femmy gay boys (time to really slap that stereotype to hell and back); butch lesbians. I kept waiting for the Aaron character to "butch" up Billy, but that went into reverse and the Aaron character that I started having respect for went to the "Billy" side and was totally a woose. The museum meeting with the LGBTQ+ group was cringe-worthy. Not only were they all stereotypes - they were BAD stereotypes!!! But there is consistency here: I was pretty evident that Billy Eichner's strongest suit is whining-he gets a 10 there; the rest of his performance gets a 0. Dot-Marie Jones hasn't learned to act any better than her days as a coach on GLEE. In her short screen time here, Debra Messing leaves me to wonder how she EVER got her role in WILL & GRACE much less won an Emmy for it - one is led to believe that she did it solely for the money. In short: SAVE YOUR MONEY - it was be streaming in 45 days for sure. I gave this a 1* because IMDB doesn't keep track of 0 *s. This picture makes LOVE SIMON look like DOCTOR ZHIVAGO.
