I think Brokedown Palace was an excellent movie. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I thought that Kate Bekinsale and Claire Danes were great. The parts of the film that kept my attention the most were when Alice and Darlene were caught giving a wrong room number to a hotel employee. The parts of the film that kept my attention the most were when Alice and Darlene were arrested at the Bangkok Airport and when their fate was determined by the Thai Supreme Court Justice. I highly recommend this film to anyone who may not have seen it especially if you like Claire Danes and Kate Bekinsale.

I remember when another bad movie had premiered, The Mod Squad, I couldn't understand why people were making a big deal about it. Then someone told me because Claire Danes was in it. I still couldn't understand. She is not pretty and picks such stupid choices for movies. And this movie only justifies why the media should not hype her up. Why would anyone think China would be more fun than Hawiia. By the end of the movie you don't care if the girls are free or not. It is really sad Bill Pullman goes from doing Independence Day to this crap.

Brokedown Palace's premise is certainly not new. We've seen several films and TV-series with young Americans in Asia (or Australians or Europeans) getting convicted for something they didn't do, or judged too harshly for what they have indeed done. Bangkok Hilton and Return to Paradise are two such examples and they are both better than Brokedown Palace which lacks real interest in the situation. Danes and Beckinsale try their best, but the script is so hackneyed that they can't do much about it. I must say, though, that the movie is certainly not a total failure, and it is at times rather interesting, but we've been there, done that several times before. (5/10)
